The cottage is located down a private driveway on almost 2 acres of land, offering loads of privacy among the mature red oak forest. It's rated 10 out of 10 for privacy. With a fantastic view of the Fairholme Lake right from the new 40 x 10 cedar deck. The interior is decorated with a mixture of old and new, but keeping with a Muskoka feel. Clean and refreshing this cottage has it all with updated stainless steel appliances and dishwasher which allows you to relax instead of cleaning on your vacation.

Why Kristina chose Whitestone

Fairholme Lake is one of the most tranquil places I have ever seen. It was the dead of winter when my husband and I first came to view the cottage. At first glance we fell in love with it, we knew immediately it was the one, and we hadn't even walked inside. As a little girl, I was raised in Port Elgin and Southampton right on Lake Huron. Seeing the cottage for the first time brought me back to that point in time as a little girl. I felt at peace and close to nature, that feeling that nothing else matters, time seems to past by at a relaxed and slow pace. I was so lucky to have lived by the water, and this is something that I always felt was missing in my adult life. This cottage just felt right and made me feel the calm of the water and the peacefulness it has to offer. It's that place where you feel right at home when you walk inside. This is a place where we have been able to share with our friends and family and have shared some special moments here. From celebrating our children's birthdays, Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter, Anniversaries, stagette parties and even the guy's fishing weekend. I hope you feel the same way too about this exclusive retreat. It is a unique and special place where we hope you can create some of your own memories.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This weekend we stayed at the Fairholme lake cottage and it was beyond amazing. The cottage was very clean and equipped with everything you can ever imagine. The view of the lake and trees was breathtaking. The owners were so accommodating and sweet.

Kristina and Shawn, thank you for making our first cottage experience so wonderful. We will definitely come back.

We had a great time at The Hay’s cottage. The cottage had everything we needed with a beautiful waterfront to enjoy.

Thanks for sharing with us!

The view was everything

  • 2 of 5

We arrived at the cottage. First thing we noticed was that it wasn’t very clean. We understand it’s a cottage, so that wasn’t a huge deal. The cottage itself is a bit dated (but again, it’s a cottage). The view was the best part. It’s right on the lake. For the price, and the fact WE were charged for cleaning (when it wasn’t even clean in the first place), we won’t be returning. There are a lot of cottages more reasonably priced for what they are.

Owner's Response: Candice Thank you for the review of our cottage, I'm sorry that your experience was not what you were hoping for. We do ask that all guests provide us with any issues upon entering the cottage so we can have every opportunity to rectify the problem. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until after your stay that you’ve made mention of the condition. You are the first guest to mention the cottage was not clean upon your arrival. In fact, our previous and returning guests mention how clean the cottage is. Either myself or my cleaner checks between each renter to ensure it is clean for the next guests. My cleaner confirmed the cottage was cleaned on Thursday, Aug 31 prior to your arrival. I'm sorry that you were taken off guard by the $125 cleaning fee, however, we do stipulate in our terms and conditions, in our welcome binder and my email which contains the directions a cleaning fee would apply should the cottage not be cleaned according to the cleaning list. Unfortunately, it was evident minimal effort was spent by your group in cleaning the cottage prior to your departure. Upon entry of the cottage there was an odd odour, almost skunky, that immediately indicated to me no cleaning products were used. Crumbs were on the floor and counter tops, bbq sauce spattered on the wall, microwave and on the outside of the BBQ. Fingerprints, and sauce on fridge, stove and patio doors. All flooring and carpets needed to be vacuumed and mopped. The duvet cover in the master bedroom was damp, as well as a couch pillow. There was absolutely no attempt to clean the bathrooms, sinks had soap scum and hair, the toilets were spattered with feces. Had it just been a few minor touch-ups, a cleaning fee would not have applied. The photos of the bathrooms that I provided to you, is a clear indication that I was more than fair in only charging $125 cleaning fee. As for the cottage being out of date, we do indicate in the description the interior is decorated with a mixture of old and new, but keeping with a Muskoka feel. The kitchen has been updated with stainless steel appliances and dishwasher. As well both bathrooms have been updated, with the upstairs having double sink vanity and 2 man glassed-in shower. Many of our guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, updated bathrooms and current décor. I want to thank you again for your review, we hope you are able to find your cottage that better suits your needs. Kristina

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Very quaint, the lake was absolutely peaceful. The cottage was very clean with a fully equipped kitchen. Nice touch with loads of spices to be able to do some new recipes. Beds very comfortable...lots of space in the bedrooms. Enjoyed the updated bathroom. Hosts were excellent to communicate with. Liked that our dog could join us on our vacation, dog bed and bowls were appreciated. We will be back.
