About Diane Haliski

Being a seventh generation native to Niagara-on-the-Lake, & having grown up here, I have experienced the vast changes from a sleepy hollow to a thriving tourist town. One aspect that remains to this day within our village, is the historic beauty... accompanied by the breath-taking geographic location, and the warm, friendly sense of community.

Diane Haliski purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Diane Haliski chose Historic Old Town

Situated on one of the prettiest streets in one of the "Prettiest Towns in Canada", I instantly fell in love with this enchanting cottage.....the dark green woods shading it & the sweet smell of cedar upon entering the front porch. A feeling of peace & tranquility swept over me & I knew I was home.

What makes this cottage unique

The minute walk to the ever changing lake & magnificent sunsets make the Flying Cloud unique in every season !

Chautauqua was always, & remains to be the "magical" cottage area of town. At the turn of the century it housed the Chautauqua Ampitheatre in the centre hub of it's spoked street design....providing live theatre & entertainment to cottagers, town folk, & tourists throughout the summers.

You will love it!!

  • 5 of 5

As so many reviewers have said, the cottage is beautifully decorated, spacious and private (including the back yard), stocked with everything you need and more! Diane and Mark are available by phone or text, to assist you with booking restaurants, giving advice on wine tours and sightseeing activities in the area. The best hosts! We were so pleasantly surprised to find that the beach, only 100 yards away, was so private. Located on a cliff, with shade trees, picnic tables and benches, and stairs down to the water, and parking for only a few cars. Ryerson is the neighborhood beach park. Not only can you swim, picnic and relax there, but the sunsets are among the most beautiful we have seen. Don't hesitate to book this amazing property! You can't help but fall in love with it.

Quaint summer cottage 3 houses from Lake Ontario

  • 5 of 5

Diane was a most gracious hostess. Before we even arrived she emailed us information about restaurants and wineries in the area to help us plan our trip. Upon arrival the house had soft music playing and the windows open to the afternoon lake breeze. Diane then came by to introduce herself and let us know that neighbors were having a summer solstice celebration at the nearby park to mark the start of summer. It was a fun unique neighborhood event that introduced us to the playfulness of Niagara on the Lake.

The cottage is perfect for couples or a small family. The backyard was private and great for a glass of wine or dinner on the patio. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking a meal and the beds were comfortable. The whole place was charming and close to the historic old town and Lake Ontario.

Diane also had a list of all the restaurants in the area that came in handy when planning last minute dinner plans. We would gladly stay at this lovely cottage again!

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

We were so excited when we first saw the cottage- it is so cute both inside and out. Everything was well equipped and very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed to make a meal if we didn’t eat out, and it was nice to enjoy eating on the back patio.

Diane was a great host and was ready to help with anything we needed. She gave great attention to detail in making everything just right for our stay.

We definitely plan on going back.

The Flying Cloud is the perfect little getaway to explore all that the Niagara region offers!

  • 5 of 5

The Flying Cloud is the perfect little getaway to explore all that the Niagara region offers! It is comfortable and so convenient - whether its a two minute walk to Lake Ontario or the need for a great meal - everything we wanted was within a 45 minute drive. And Diane is a wealth of knowledge about the region and things to do from dining to culture to exploring nature. We highly recommend the Pie Plate in Virgil for both pizza and dessert pie - a destination spot for sure! Niagara Falls was a short drive down the river but be ready to battle the tourists. We are not big on winery tours, but if that’s your thing, you could do an entire week hitting all of the local winerys. If there was any negative it would be the lack of cable tv on a rainy day, but nothing wrong with picking up a good book and reading. Will we be back? Highly likely!

Perfect romantic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Although we have been to NOTL many times, this was our first time renting a cottage, and given the experience we had with The Flying Cloud, I doubt we'd ever go back to using a hotel or B&B again. The cottage was decked out with all the amenities and Diane was a gracious and thoughtful hostess. We had a memorable four day break for our anniversary and look forward to returning again.

Flying Cloud is incredible!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cottage! Diane and Mark equip the cottage with everything you could possibly need. As soon as we stepped into the cottage we felt like we were at home. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in. The living room was delightful with the fireplace. We enjoyed many meals on the front porch. Walk down to the lake which is just a minute away and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The neighbours are wonderful and we were very happy to meet a couple of the neighbourhood cats. We most certainly will be back!

For sports enthusiasts, rent a bicycle from Zoom and ride the bike trails along the Niagara River. North America's oldest golf course is around the corner . It's a public course and the clubhouse patio has the best view in town. Play tennis at the local courts, rent a paddle board or kayak in Lake Ontario.

There are the annual church/farm festivals: Strawberry Festival at St. Andrews church on the third Saturday in June, the Cherry Festival at St. Mark’s church on the first Saturday in July and the Peach Festival on the second weekend in August. The locals gather at the extremely popular Wednesday night Supper Market. This community event of food trucks and local restaurants serving food, wine, and beer has quickly became a weekly social gathering place for locals and visitors. Pull up a colourful picnic table, bring your own chairs or blanket, listen to a band and watch the kids dance.
