I cannot say enough about this little cottage that resembles more of a doll house. It's well-kept and maintained, has everything you could need, is super comfortable and private even being located on the same lot with a "main house," as the cottage has it's own little fenced-in back patio. It's an excellent location.; everything I needed -- yoga studio, spa, shopping -- was within a five to ten minute drive. Pam, the owner, is conscientious, lovely and responsive to inquiries. Would highly recommend and will be returning!
I just spent a wonderful weekend in SLO at the Garden Cottage Hideaway with my wife and teenage son. We were in town to visit my daughter, a current student at Cal Poly. Rather than book a room at the Embassy Suites with a king bed and pullout sofa, we decided to take a quick look on VRBO for something that was price competitive but much more of a SLO experience. We're so glad we found this place.
The cottage is peaceful and well appointed, with a beautiful garden seating area in the front, and another out a side door from the single master bedroom. While the owner's main house is directly in front of this backyard cottage, we still felt like we had plenty of privacy. The small kitchen was part of the perfectly decorated main living area and was well appointed...great for morning coffee, wine, snacks, etc. The main living area had a small kitchen table, a futon, a few chairs and a T.V.. Our son slept on the futon (bedding included) while we enjoyed our own private master bedroom with a comfortable bed and a wardrobe to hang our weekend clothes. A single shared bathroom off the main living area was a good size....clean and roomy with plenty of hot water for 3 showers in a row.
The house is a very short drive to downtown SLO and to the campus, and we had no trouble finding parking along the street in front of the main house.
If you're looking to make a lot of noise, I would look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway in a peaceful neighborhood setting to get a feel for living in SLO....this place is for you.
I would not hesitate to stay here again!
Lovely property. I especially enjoyed the gardens and outdoor seating areas. The cottage was clean, well equipped and comfortable. We would definitely stay again when back in the area.
Our stay was above and beyond our expectation. This special property was well equipped, beautifully maintained, and absolutely idyllic for our vacation. With its central location in San Luis Obispo and its ease of access, we were able to sightsee all day and come back to the house to put our feet up.
Even with the cottage's close proximity to plenty of restaurants, we took advantage of the nearby Trader Joe's and made dinner in. We enjoyed the welcoming coziness of the cottage in the evenings and found that a glass of wine combined with the countless college football bowl games on TV made for a level of relaxation we couldn't get at home.
The kitchen was perfectly stocked with plates, cookware and tools to make dinner and coffee in the mornings. Which we enjoyed on the patio, surrounded by fruit trees, succulents and lavender. The quiet neighborhood was pleasent for morning walks.
We would absolutely stay here again. Our experience was so wonderful and welcoming. We had plenty to do and see during the day, and coming back in the evenings to this quiet space instead of a sterile hotel room was a blessing. I have to say that the bed was more comfortable then any other place we have ever stayed and this was the absolute best sleep ether myself or my husband has ever had on a vacation.
Booking a stay here is an excellent choice. It's almost like having your own storybook cottage to wake up in, complete with garden gnomes.
We had a wonderful time.. The suite was comfortabl for all 3 of us, and the garden was so wonderful, we got to enjoy some warm sunny afternoons.
Everything in the property was as described, plus it was fun to have access to some books to read with my 6 year old son.
If you are visiting SLO, don't forget to stop at Scout's for a good coffee and house made pastry!
Very nice little place, well maintained. Found the front room cold and the wall heater did not seem adequate to keep it warm, the beroom heater was fine.
