I was an actress in NYC for many years and settled here in the New Hope area with my husband. Then for the last 25+ years I've been a Real Estate agent with (Kurfiss Sotheby's Real Estate).
Eleanor Miller purchased this cottage in 1995
Note: If our calendar says we're book on dates you are interested in, please ask about our second English cottage here.
This property originally belonged to my husband's grandfather, Dr. George Morley Marshall who in 1895 thought the New Hope area looked like the rolling English countryside so he wrote his boyhood friend and artist, William Lathrop and told him he had to come to New Hope. He then sold a portion of the property to Lathrop, thus began the School of Pennsylavania Impressionists here in the New Hope/ Phillips' Mill area. Soon after, Lathrop sold a few acres to Morgan Colt. who was a well known architect, painter, woodworker, and iron worker and painter. Morgan Colt then began building this extrodinary little English Village to be his residence. We purchased this property in 1995 and in 2010 decided to make two of the cottages available to rent (Gothic Cottage) seen here and (Herringbone Cottage). Please ask for our brochure which has photos and discription of both of our rental cottages here on the property.
Dozens of great restaurants, cafe's, art galleries, and live music venues all within 2 miles of the cottage as well as 3 museums nearby. All of our guests love walking or riding bikes on the canal tow-path. You can see all the beautiful historic homes along the canal as you walk by. We have a great indoor Farmers Market in the little river town of Stockton which is just 1 mile up the road and you can walk there on the canal if you like. Our little English village property is like a scene out of a Harry Potter movie. The entire little English village was built to look 1000 years old. One of the cottages was originally built in England in 900AD. It was part of an old Abby which had fallen into ruin. A section of the building was dismantled and brought to the U.S., barged up the canal to this location. It was reconstructed and brought back to its original luster. Its just gorgeous! Take in a show at the Newly renovated Bucks County Playhouse. Maybe even see James Earl Jones or Angela Lansbury or dozens of other stars in our historic Playhouse.
So cool...... Great cottage. So peaceful and relaxing. Kurt and Elenor are awesome, and enjoyed their company. I have been all over the world, and the Phillips Mill Inn is an epic epicurean delight. Do not miss it at any expense.
This stay was so very relaxing in an enchanted cottage and surroundings.
The history is very interesting and we loved the cd's provided. We would
certainly come again.
We spent our 22nd wedding anniversary at the cottage and enjoyed a lovely weekend. Everything we needed was supplied in the cottage and it was clean and well maintained. We plan on returning for another weekend in the future with friends so we can share this experience. So close to the river and within walking distance to New Hope. Thanks so much Eleanor and Kurt for your hospitality and for sharing the history of your beautiful property.
Great hosts, unique property, and an amazing location. I wish I'd had better weather and more time for my visit, as I feel like I really missed out on lounging around the grounds and dining at the inn. I absolutely loved the towpath along the canal though.
We stayed at this beautiful little cottage for our 25th wedding anniversary and we had a wonderful time. We loved learning about the history of the property and the artists who created their masterpieces at this very special location. Ms. Miller and her sons could not have been nicer and the property is simply beautiful. The cottage that we stayed in was perfect, with a vintage kitchenette, comfy living room and luscious bedding. I would highly recommend this vacation destination to anyone who is looking for something quaint, clean and convenient to the New Hope attractions.
Liz and I had a wonderful time. We met Kurt on arrival and realized how much we had in common in the art world. Eleanor stopped by to say hi the next day and we wound up sharing two bottles of wine, cheese and pate and must have talked for an hour, or more. Liz and I then met Kurt and Eleanor for lunch the following day. Just wonderful people. We walked to the charming restaurant for our anniversary dinner where it is BYOB. VERY romantic pace.
