When restoring and furnishing this dwelling, utmost attention was given to preserving the original style traditional in this part of Spain. All furnishings are either antique or custom-built by the owner and each ornament including the wood burning stove was carefully chosen to create a truly unique atmosphere. The garden provides a peaceful and lovely space furnished with barbecue and lawn table and chairs for outdoor meals.

Great place, except for the noise
Despite some noise issues, this rental is lovely in many ways. The cottage itself is a work of art: Leo has done a fantastic job with it. The stonework is charmingly creative. The woodwork is extraordinary: we especially loved the inlays, and the matching finials everywhere, as well as the grain and finish of the wood itself. The four-poster canopy bed is just beautiful. We loved all the scallop-shell hardware, too. There’s also a nautical theme, with ingenious rope & pulley arrangements. The hatch-lift on the toilet seat, in particular, was a real hoot. The design of the cottage is whimsical, delightful, masterful. It’s also very comfortable and functional. Bring your own hand-soap and shower gel, and there’s no information sheet, but Teresa is very generous with advice, and we got oriented quickly. The kitchen is snug, but adequate for light cooking.
The location is great, too. Pontevedra has a surprisingly large and attractive historic center. There are excellent beaches everywhere. And don’t miss the wonderful, nearby Monasterio de Poio, with its amazing mosaic mural of El Camino de Santiago. It’s an hour’s drive to Santiago, and about two hours to the Ribiera Sacra, which is absolutely stunning.
But be careful if you don’t like noise. We were there for the festival of San Juan (around June 24-26). There’s a festival grounds about a half km down the valley, and the sound travels right up the hill. For our first two nights, we endured head-banging rock music until 4:30 AM. We have excellent ear plugs, but they did no good—that’s how loud it was. On the third night, fireworks at midnight. If this is your thing, OK, but otherwise check with Teresa to avoid festivals. There’s also a dog kennel a stone’s throw from the cottage, and sometimes the barking from the kennel stirs up a chorus from the neighborhood dogs. Neither the festivals nor the neighborhood dogs is the owners’ fault, of course, but their own German shepherds are pretty loud, too. When the owners are away, they leave the dogs penned up outside, and they bark constantly and frantically. On one non-festival evening, that went on until close to midnight—again, earplugs were useless. If you like dogs, or if you stay out late, the cottage will be perfectly OK. We prefer sleep, though. If not for the noise, we’d give this rental a 5.
Amazing property for those who love to be off the beaten path!
We are avid users of VRBO and enjoy the adventure of what each property brings. This property did not disappoint! The property is clean, convenient, and user friendly. The driveway can be a bit tricky for those that are not up for the challenge, however, once you arrive you will not be disappointed. Teresa and Leonardo are wonderful host and were able to give us a great scope of restaurants and places to visit. The only suggestion that I would make on this property is that the owners make it known that they are located on the property, in close proximity. We enjoy to have our space and not be right on top of the owners, however, many people using VRBO like having that comfort. This is a unique property that you wouldn't want to miss.
A delightful place to stay
This is a beautiful little place in the hills above Cambarro not far from a string of lovely beaches and several towns with facilities such as Ponteverda. The place was spotlessly clean, very modern and very unique as all the fittings and furniture hade ben hand-made by ther owners.
The owners Leonardo and Teresa were very welcoming and helpful and as they spoke fluent English that helped us as our Spanish is quite poor.
We would recommend and if in the area would happily stay there again.
