Oakland Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, sleeps up to 12

This lovely log cabin, 2 miles from Wisp Ski, and 1/2 mile from lake, which is great for year-round enjoyment. Be close to all attractions and feel like you're in a secluded hideaway. Year-round Maryland vacation activities abound in Deep Creek Lake Maryland.

In the mountains of Western Maryland in Garrett County, Deep Creek Lake offers recreation and relaxation year-round. Deep Creek Lake Maryland has something for everyone. Activities and things to do include boating, water skiing, hiking, whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny River, snow skiing at Wisp Resort, hunting, miniature golf, and championship Maryland vacation golf courses. For shoppers, numerous fine gift shops are nearby. Within a few minutes are restaurants of all types. Five state parks including Swallow Falls State Park which features Swallow Falls and Muddy Creek Falls, Maryland's largest waterfall are a short drive away.

Deep Creek Lake State Park : Most of the parks visitor services are located on State Park Road along the waterfront of Deep Creek Lake. The park includes approximately 1 mile of shoreline on this, Maryland's largest man-made lake. Access is available for fishing, swimming, and boat launching. Several picnic areas offer excellent views of the lake with easy access to the beach and other facilities.

Swallow Falls State Park : This mountain park is located nine miles north of Oakland, Maryland and contains some of Maryland's most breathtaking scenery. The Youghiogheny River flows along the park's borders, passing through shaded rocky gorges and creating rippling rapids. Muddy Creek Falls is a crashing 53-foot waterfall – a spectacular sight. Tall hemlocks dominate the silent woods. The meandering trails through Swallow Falls guide hikers to some of the most breath-taking scenery in Western Maryland.

Very Cozy with only minor complaints

  • 4 of 5

We spent a weekend at the cabin and it met our every need. Plenty of bedding for everyone and space for gathering. The only complaints would that the hot tub looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a year, and the left side of the stove does not get hot. It is important that when going to the cabin after a snowfall 4 Wheel drive it required. Besides those small fixable complaints, the place is great for a weekend getaway just minutes from Wisp resort.

Property is great, Management could use some tightening up

  • 4 of 5

To start off, def have 4x4 vehicles. Especially in the winter. The roads leading to the home are steep-ish climbs and if covered in snow and ice, good luck getting there with a 2-wheel drive vehicle. The emergency routes allow you to get out but they are not guaranteed to be open.

The house itself is great! Spacious, clean, cozy, and with a garage. Close to the resort for ski fun. It's seclusion is nice if you are looking for peace, quiet, and privacy with your group. Fire pit in the back was nice too. Overall, it served our needs pretty well.

Property management could use some tightening though. I asked the owner if propane could be checked in the grill so that we could use it. At first I had a positive response that it would be checked but no further update. I asked a second time with no response. Grill had no propane when we arrived. Would have been nice, since it is advertised as part of the home.

Propane was also close to empty on the outside tanks. Heat was working minimally the last night we were there, not fun in the winter months.

I'd recommend this place, just as long as some of these items would be looked after more closely.

Blizzard 2016

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a great time at the cabin. We got snowed in and the hot tub was perfect. It was hard getting the cars out but we did and were able to go snowboarding for a bit. Sheila was great at answering all our needs and questions. She was very helpful.

Beautiful loacation and house-but lots of stuff inside broken

  • 4 of 5

I would rate this as a 4 star cabin. The actual house and location are great!! Our issues were with things inside. The master bed is held together on one side by a ratchet strap and a paint can is holding it up. One of the closet doors was missing as was one of the mirrored cabinets in the bathroom. The couch in the main area was broken in quite a few places. The kids didn't mind it, but it was uncomfortable for us to sit. The microwave had no handle and the pool sticks had no tips. We did not use the basement because we could not get it warm enough. Space heaters would have been nice to have. The Jacuzzi was working and we did use it with no problems. We had a few inches of snow and you definitely need 4 wheel drive or All Wheel drive to get in and out- steep hills. We had no hot water- could not take showers all weekend. The heat worked fine and we were warm on the top two levels.

Christmas in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time, beatifull cabin. Only wish the weather wood have been colder so Wisp could have been making snow.

4 wheel drive or chains would have definitely required had it snowed.

We absolutely loved the cabin. We're already planning another trip. Everyone had a blast and it was nice and close to the lake. Plenty to eat around also.

Car: necessary

Deep Creek Lake, Maryland

Other Activities: Our favorite activities include boating on the lake, snow skiing at WISP, Visiting Swallow Falls, and Black Bear Falls.

Our favorite bar especially in the Summer is the Honi-Honi. The WISP resort also has great food and alot of activities including a Zip Line, Mountain Coaster, Dune buggies, and paint ball.

Golf: Wisp Resort Golf and Lodestone.

Golfstyles Magazine named the Wisp Resort Golf Course one of the “100 Must-Play Courses of the Mid-Atlantic.” Designed around the natural contours at the base of Wisp ski slopes, with breathtaking views of the mountains, this 6,700 yard, par 72 championship course ebbs and flows along tree-lined fairways, and past strategically placed bunkers and water hazards.

Ski: Wisp Mountain Resort

With a world renowned energy-efficient snowmaking system and over 100 inches of annual snowfall in Garrett County, Wisp's 132 acres of ski terrain provide snowsport enthusiasts an incredible winter playground. Non-skiers and boarders won't be left out, in fact, they'll have as much trouble deciding what to do next with all that Wisp Resort and the Deep Creek Lake area have to offer: mountain coaster, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, fly fishing and more.
