If you want the San Juan experience without all the crowds, this is the place for you. Beautiful, pristine beaches are perfect for beach exploring. Ramy is a wonderful host. Plan to spend evenings around the fire pit telling stories and roasting s'mores.
Be aware: the one store on the island has been closed for years so you need to bring EVERYTHING. Also be aware that you will need to book on a private ferry which is approximately $70 per adult (round trip).
This place is amazing, and it's all thanks to the wonderful operator Ramy. The house is true to photos and the property is even more perfect than you can imagine.
We used the Paraclete charter to the island and Ramy met us at the dock to take us the short distance to the house. She then left us a vehicle to get around in addition to numerous bicycles which we found was the preferred mode of transport on the island "road" system. We easily biked to the lovely Saturday market, the golf course, and even took off on a bike trip around the whole island.
The house is perfectly stocked with everything you need and is extremely cozy inside. The view from the deck is amazing! There is a short path down to the beach, which is sandy and extremely private. Once at the beach there is a small shed with all beach supplies you could need, plus 3 kayaks to use! We were out on the water every day. The boats are extremely stable and the shoreline of Decatur is absolutely suitable for even beginner kayakers to enjoy paddling.
We also spent a lot of time at the island golf course. It's clearly a labor of love and a great indicator of what Decatur life is all about. We played golf everyday and had a blast walking this beautiful property. The course had clubs and balls available for all to use in exchange for a small donation.
The Saturday market was a great place to get a bit social and be apart of the island scene. People have fresh veggies, foods, and handmade art for sale. There is also a free pile, and a take a book leave a book library.
You could not ask for a better host than Ramy. She was so attentive when we needed her and was clearly intent and making sure we felt privacy all at the same time. She has decorated her home and property so well and the comfort you feel while there is a direct result of her attention to making it that way. Everything was extremely thoughtful. Simply put, the most enjoyable San Juan Islands experience I've ever had. There is so much to do, or not do, and Decatur is so clearly a special place. Kids will be entertained and busy, adults will be able to relax, and you have an amazing host to guide your experience as much as you need. Cannot recommend Ramy and her property enough. Go!
Really enjoyed our family vacation at this prime island spot. Secluded, peaceful, well kept beautiful home. Ample space for our family of 4. Could easily fit a larger family or group. We enjoyed bike riding to the local store for milk shakes, crabbing, observing wildlife, adventuring on the beach, peaceful days on the deck soaking in the sun and view, s'mores at the fire pit in the evenings. Stars were brilliant at night. Local contact on the island to help you navigate the transportation to/from the dock as well as going out of their way to make sure you have what you need. Highly recommend this place for your stay. We will be back next year!!
