#A 'Peace' of Heaven Log Cabin, located in the famously charming and charismatic mountain-town of Banner Elk, North Carolina, is the perfect vacation rental home for a family getaway, long weekend trip, honeymoon, holiday respite, anniversary celebration, or mountain retreat. The unrivaled view of the famous Grandfather Mountain is second to none. While providing many high-tech conveniences with several smart-home devices, the cabin still offers impeccable solitude and a remarkably peaceful, mellow atmosphere.

——ACCOMMODATIONS——

Before entering the cabin, guests must climb four stairs up onto the deck to access the front door. The deck wraps around the entire side and front of the main floor of the cabin. It is equipped with plenty of furnishings for relaxing, taking in the views, as well as dining areas for sharing meals with friends or family. On the far end of the porch is a covered room with vaulted ceilings and an abundance of seating for large groups.

Through the front door, guests will first enter into the laundry area, featuring a Whirlpool washer and dryer set. After, they will enter into the fully equipped kitchen, which boasts a large curved island with four wooden barstools, a flat-top electric stove, spacious oven mounted into the hand-crafted stone wall, and a plethora of cooking amenities that supplies guests with anything and everything they could ever need to prepare a meal of any variety. Opposite the kitchen is the dining area that seats eight and the spacious living room area with a beautiful vaulted ceiling and floor to roof windows showcasing an unparalleled panoramic view of Grandfather Mountain. In the living room area guests can relax on two reclining leather sofas, a La-Z-Boy recliner, and also enjoy the 52” 4k HiDef flatscreen Smart TV. All while cozying up by the gorgeous handcrafted stone fireplace.

This extraordinary home offers 2,400 square feet of space, accommodating groups of up to twelve with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. The master suite features a queen bed with an incredibly comfortable memory foam mattress, 28” mounted flatscreen TV, breathtaking window view of Grandfather Mountain, and access to the master bathroom. The master bath boasts a custom tiled walk-in shower and, as with all bathrooms in the cabin, furnishings hand-crafted from trees cut down during the property’s construction. The other bedroom on the main level accommodates two people in two high-set twin beds and provides entertainment with a 28” Smart TV. The master bath is accessible from this bedroom as well.

On the upper level, a spacious loft complete with vaulted ceilings looks down over the dining and living room areas. The loft features two handcrafted rocking chairs and two incredible sofas, one of which folds out into a queen sized bed with very comfortable air mattress. Linens are available in the adjacent chest, which serves as a coffee table for the two sofas. In this area guests can also find a supply of board games and card games, as well as the second full bathroom. On the other side of the upper level is a markedly sizable third bedroom with a queen sized bed complete with a cloud-like mattress, as well as a bunk bed. The bottom bed is a double and the top is a twin. Also in this bedroom is a reading nook with a pristine view of Grandfather and the covered outdoor room.

The cabin is stocked with lots of warm blankets and fresh flannel linens, fresh soft towels, two Tide laundry detergent pods, two dish detergent pods, two large paper towel rolls in the kitchen, and two hotel-quality toilet paper rolls in the bathrooms. Any supplies that might be needed beyond these will need to be brought by the guests.

----SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY----

The cabin's smart home devices offer many benefits for our guests:

----AMAZON ALEXA---- The main floor of the cabin features Amazon Alexa on two Echo Dot systems. Guests can ask Alexa what the weather forecast is, to play a favorite music station on Pandora Radio, set a timer or alarm, hear the news headlines, announce game scores, order a pizza, ask where the nearest grocery store is located, and so much more (an Alexa guide is provided in the House Manual at the cabin).

----SMART TV'S---- The cabin is equipped with with a 52" 4K HiDef Smart TV in the living room and 28” to 42" HiDef Smart TVs in each bedroom. DirecTV is provided, allowing access to over 155 HD channels, On Demand capabilities, as well as plenty of movie, sports, children's, news, and family programming. The Smart TVs allow guests to log into their accounts on Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, HBO Go, et cetera, and also allows them to record their favorite shows and movies to view after they air.

----SMART LIGHTS---- Many of the lights both inside and outside of the cabin feature Sengled Smart Bulbs. If guests arrive after dark on their check in date, the lights for the porch, entryway, kitchen, and living room are programmed to turn on - lighting up the cabin's interior - after entering their code into the smart lock keypad. Also, guests can ask Amazon's Alexa to turn the lights both on and off, either individually or by the room. For more specific lighting preferences, guests can ask Alexa to turn the lights to a specific brightness level between 0% and 100%.

A detailed guide for Alexa and all of our smart home devices can be found in the House Manual at the cabin. We know that this technology can be unnecessary or overwhelming for some, so we send out a short questionnaire with the other documents that are sent after a reservation is booked in order to ask about the guest’s preferences regarding the smart devices (key or keypad, motion sensing lights in the common areas at night or not, Alexa or no Alexa, et cetera).

We want every guest who visits our little piece of heaven to experience true comfort and the opportunity to know the sense of serenity that we have come to love while at this cabin. It is a one of a kind home, and we are thrilled to have the chance to share it with such kind and wonderful people.

About Michael York

My mother, Barbara, and I have been in the vacation rental business for six years now. We have come to truly love what we do and the incredible people that we meet. I have become a sort of property manager, working with the guests, handling reservations, scheduling our staff, keeping the listings up to date, etc. I like to make life easy for my mother, so she doesn't have too many responsibilities here at the cabin. We are a great team though, and we have been incredibly grateful to have gotten to meet the extraordinary and diverse people that we have who all decided to travel from all across the country and the world to come to Banner Elk and have the opportunity to experience the sense of serenity that this cabin offers and that my mother and I have come to cherish so very much.

Michael York purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Michael York chose Banner Elk

My grandfather bought this property in 1968 and my mother grew up vacationing here with her parents for weekends in what her father referred to as 'God's Country'. They had set up a mobile home on the property and for many years and would come up, inviting family and friends to come along as well. After my mother retired, I talked her out of selling the property and instead we decided to remove the old mobile home and begin construction on this beautiful log home that we are now so lucky to have. Construction was completed in 2009, and ever since then, we have called this cabin home.

What makes this cabin unique

From Barbara: "I am so blessed to have this home, I mean not many people can get up every morning and stare into the face of the spectacular Grandfather Mountain while drinking their coffee! My home is centrally located within fifteen minutes or less of Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and Valle Cruise. There are so many wonderful opportunities for having fun in this area - shopping in the quaint boutiques in Blowing Rock, people watching in the wonderful Main Street park while eating delicious ice cream from Kilwin's. You can also walk across the famous Mile-High Swinging Bridge on Grandfather Mountain and visit their zoo showcasing the local wildlife. Go and drink an old-fashioned bottled Coke and have a Moonpie on the back porch of the original Mast General Store, all while listening to live bluegrass music. Go hiking on one of the hundreds of trails in the High Country or go whitewater rafting or tubing on the Watauga or New Rivers. In the winter months you can go skiing or snow tubing on one of the four terrific ski slopes nearby. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner in one of the hundreds of fabulous High Country restaurants. There are far too many things to name here, but there is a guest book to write any suggestions that you may have in order for us to get ideas on how to improve our guests' experience while here. Thank you for your interest in our beautiful home!"

While visiting my home, you are centrally located to many wonderful mountain attractions. You can visit Grandfather Mountain with the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge and its wild animal zoo. The famous Tweetsie Railroad is less than 30 minutes away. Another place you must visit is Mast General Store with 2 locations in Valle Cruise (about 15 minutes away) and another location in the town of Boone, I love to go on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to the Mast Store location in Valle Cruise and sit in a rocking chair on their back porch and listen to live Blue Grass music! There are also several places in the area where you can book a white water rafting or tubing trip down the Watauga or New Rivers. About a mile from my house, you can book flyfishing tours and catch some good ole mountain trout! Shopping is wonderful at the quaint local shops in both Boone and Blowing Rock and their is a Tanger Outlet between the 2 towns! There are lots of wonderful restaurants in the area with great food and some with exquisite views of the Blue Ridge. Almost year around, there are festivals going on nearby like the famous Wooly Worm Festival in Banner Elk where you can race your very own wooly worm and possibly win $1000 if you have the winning worm! There is also Art in the Park held each month from April - October in Blowing Rock which is a wonderful place to shop for beautiful crafts and art. In the winter there is nearby skiing and tubing opportunities at Beech, Sugar, Appalachian and Hawksnest Mountains. There is always something fun to do and see in this area and my home is centrally located to all of it!

FANTASTIC views and cozy interior

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely LOVED this cabin - the view is spectacular and Barbara was so nice/helpful/responsive. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with pots, pans (etc.) necessary for preparing meals for a big group of people. The location is amazing because it is close to grocery stores and fun things to do in boone/banner elk, but the view from the cabin makes you feel like you are in the middle of the wilderness. Just perfect! Would definitely rent from Barbara again.

Large well decorated mountain cabin with fantastic view of Grandfather Mountain. Convenient location 15 min away from Blowing Rock and Boone. We grilled dinner on the charcoal grill, and ad a great time exploring the area. Will definitely be back!!

Fantastic vacation rental!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week of vacation at this house! The location is convenient to Boone, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain and all of the other places we wanted to see, but the house itself is secluded and very peaceful. We spent much of our time on the porch enjoying the gorgeous views. All seven of us slept comfortably, although the bunk bed in the upstairs bedroom is very low (the top bed is really close to the bottom bed), so I would not recommend that bed for adults. The kitchen is very nicely appointed and had all of the pots, pans, dishes, etc. that we needed to prepare all of our meals. I would recommend bringing paper plates because the dishes get extremely hot in the microwave. The house was very clean and there were lots of small personal touches that made the house very comfortable. I would definitely rent this house again for our next mountain vacation.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your review, Heath. I'll make a note to make some paper plates available upstairs. Also, in case you're ever interested in coming back, we are replacing the bunk bed with a more comfortable full size bed before the end of the year.

My college girlfriends rented this property for a reunion. There were 7 of us and we had plenty of space. There was room for several more if needed. The views are spectacular and the fixtures inside are top notch. We didn't want to leave.

--Note-- Please be sure to read the rental agreement, found in the House Rules section of this listing, before submitting finalizing your reservation. North Carolina law dictates that vacation rental owners obtain a signed rental agreement for each reservation - therefore, after a reservation is finalized, the primary guest will receive the rental agreement via email. The rental agreement must be electronically signed and returned within 72 hours to keep the reservation. The whole process takes about ten or fifteen minutes and helps ensure the safety and security of both owner and guests.

--Note-- Single Night Rentals are not available for rental parties of more than six guests.

--Note-- Single Night Rentals are priced higher. Normally, I don't allow single night rentals due to the high strain put on the property for such a short stay, but by request I have made them available for roughly $25 more than the normal average rate.

--Note-- The maximum occupancy of this property is ten guests. If there are more than ten guests in your rental party, please contact me and we can arrange an exception to this rule for an additional fee. Air mattresses can be provided if necessary.
