We want every guest who visits our little piece of heaven to experience true comfort and the opportunity to know the sense of serenity that we have come to love while at this cabin. It is a one of a kind home, and we are thrilled to have the chance to share it with such kind and wonderful people.
--Please note, the rented portion of this property consists of the upper two of the three floors. The basement level consists of a completely segregated apartment in which the owner resides with two well behaved dogs. Guests are able to lock the door to the rented portion of the cabin with a bolt lock, preventing access into the rented area. The owner is very respectful of guests' privacy and sound coming from the rented portion is not audible in the owner's apartment, so guests have complete privacy. The owner also works most days from 7 AM to 7 PM, so she is either away from the cabin or asleep most of the time. The owner can be seen in our profile picture here on HomeAway to the right of me. If you have any question or concerns regarding the owner's apartment, please feel free to contact me. -

About Michael York
My mother, Barbara, and I have been in the vacation rental business for six years now. We have come to truly love what we do and the incredible people that we meet. I have become a sort of property manager, working with the guests, handling reservations, scheduling our staff, keeping the listings up to date, etc. I like to make life easy for my mother, so she doesn't have too many responsibilities here at the cabin. We are a great team though, and we have been incredibly grateful to have gotten to meet the extraordinary and diverse people that we have who all decided to travel from all across the country and the world to come to Banner Elk and have the opportunity to experience the sense of serenity that this cabin offers and that my mother and I have come to cherish so very much.
Michael York purchased this Cabin in 2009
Why Michael York chose Banner Elk
My grandfather bought this property in 1968 and my mother grew up vacationing here with her parents for weekends in what her father referred to as 'God's Country'. They had set up a mobile home on the property and for many years and would come up, inviting family and friends to come along as well. After my mother retired, I talked her out of selling the property and instead we decided to remove the old mobile home and begin construction on this beautiful log home that we are now so lucky to have. Construction was completed in 2009, and ever since then, we have called this cabin home.
What makes this Cabin unique
From Barbara: "I am so blessed to have this home, I mean not many people can get up every morning and stare into the face of the spectacular Grandfather Mountain while drinking their coffee! My home is centrally located within fifteen minutes or less of Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and Valle Cruise. There are so many wonderful opportunities for having fun in this area - shopping in the quaint boutiques in Blowing Rock, people watching in the wonderful Main Street park while eating delicious ice cream from Kilwin's. You can also walk across the famous Mile-High Swinging Bridge on Grandfather Mountain and visit their zoo showcasing the local wildlife. Go and drink an old-fashioned bottled Coke and have a Moonpie on the back porch of the original Mast General Store, all while listening to live bluegrass music. Go hiking on one of the hundreds of trails in the High Country or go whitewater rafting or tubing on the Watauga or New Rivers. In the winter months you can go skiing or snow tubing on one of the four terrific ski slopes nearby. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner in one of the hundreds of fabulous High Country restaurants. There are far too many things to name here, but there is a guest book to write any suggestions that you may have in order for us to get ideas on how to improve our guests' experience while here. Thank you for your interest in our beautiful home!"

FANTASTIC views and cozy interior
We absolutely LOVED this cabin - the view is spectacular and Barbara was so nice/helpful/responsive. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with pots, pans (etc.) necessary for preparing meals for a big group of people. The location is amazing because it is close to grocery stores and fun things to do in boone/banner elk, but the view from the cabin makes you feel like you are in the middle of the wilderness. Just perfect! Would definitely rent from Barbara again.
Beautiful cabin with breathtaking view!
We don’t normally travel this far for our cabin getaways, but we are glad we did this time! It was definitely worth the trip. We have stayed in many cabins and this was definitely a favorite. So well done-beautiful and cozy with plenty of room, comfortable furniture/beds, and stocked with anything you would need. We found lots of fun things to do in the area - like wineries and parks - but mainly enjoyed cooking and looking out onto Grandfather mountain. Michael was super nice and helpful. Thanks for the wonderful spring break!
Hi Lindsay! It was great having you and your family at the cabin! Thanks for being such awesome guests and you all are welcome back anytime you'd like!
8 ladies traveled up for a conference two weeks ago. This sweet cabin truly is a PEACE of HEAVEN! We were very comfortable and cozy - had the fireplace on all weekend. We loved everything and the view was exceptional. It was easy to find and only a 15 short minute drive from Boone. We were sad that we ran out of time to try the outdoor fire pit, maybe next time. . .
Hi Donna! So sorry I wasn't able to get the fire pit up and running in time for your stay. The good news is that it is all set up now and it's proven to be a great source of enjoyment. I hope you'll come back and stay again sometime in the future and try it out for yourself! We'd love to have you all back!
Amazing Cabin and Owners
This was our first family vacation with 5 adults and 3 children ranging in age from 1-10 years old and Peace of Heaven was the perfect choice. The outside porch has the most beautiful views all throughout the day/night and the inside is perfectly decorated which makes it feel so comfortable and cozy. The location also cannot be beat, it’s just minutes away from all the local attractions (Tweetsie Railroad, Grandfather Mountain, Beech Mountain, Sugar Moutnain, and downtown Boone). While we were there the area had unexpected snow and the roads leading up to the cabin were iced over which caused us to be without a place to stay on New Years Eve. As soon as we reached out to Michael (the owner’s son) he immediately started calling all of the hotels around and was able to book us two rooms when almost everything was sold out. Just that would have been enough but he went above and beyond by offering to cover the cost of the rooms! This really helped calm us in an unfortunate situation. The cabin and Michael’s attentiveness and generosity really made for an unforgettable experience for everyone on this vacation. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!
Great location and views-easy to get to and the owners have stocked it with EVERYTHING you need!
We spent Thanksgiving week at this beautiful cabin and it turned out to be one of our favorites! It’s location makes it short and easy to get to Boone, Blowing Rock an Banner Elk. With a spectacular view of Grandfather Mountain, the huge porches and a kitchen “to die for” this cabin is perfect for 2 families if needed. The bedrooms are very comfy, the bathrooms all have beautiful unique sinks, and the kitchen has more gadgets than my own! You won’t be disappointed!!
This was a great spot. Beautiful views, nice location and it did seem very clean. Enough room for everyone yet still very cozy.
The cabin is located in the Pisgah National Forest between Boone and Banner Elk, about eight miles from both, in the small, quiet town of Foscoe. The cabin is within ten minutes of Hawks Nest Ski Mountain, the Valle Crucis Mast General Store and Annex, Grandfather Mountain Winery, High Gravity Zip Line Aerial Park, Yonahlossee Resort, Hound Ears Golf Club, Rocky Knob Mountain, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Horn in the West, Appalachian State University, downtown Boone, Valle Crucis. Within thirty minutes is Tweetsie Railroad, Beech Mountain Ski Mountain and Resort, Sugar Ski Mountain and Resort, The Land of Oz, Grandfather Mountain, the Mile High Swinging Bridge, Grandfather Mountain Zoo, Price Park, Hebron Rock Colony, downtown Blowing Rock, downtown Banner Elk, Linville Caverns, Turtle Island Preserve, the Tanger Outlets in Blowing Rock, Broyhill Equestrian Preserve, Moses Cone Memorial Park, Elk Knob State Park, Laurel Creek Falls, Trout Lake, the historic Blowing Rock attraction, Grandfather Mountain Nature Museum, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Mystery Hill, and much more. Needless to say, there's a lot to do around The High Country!

Additional information about rental rates
—NOTE— To allow for a much smaller damage deposit ($100), there is a non-refundable Damage Protection Fee ($25) in order to pay for Accidental Property Damage Insurance on guests' behalf. This insurance covers any unintentional damages done to the property or it’s contents, negating the need for a high deposit. —NOTE— Guests are still required to have $100 held until after check-out in case any fees are incurred during their stay. These fees are specified in the rental agreement. —NOTE— Please be sure to read the rental agreement, found in the House Rules section of this listing, before submitting your reservation (you can also ask me for a copy and I will gladly provide you with one). North Carolina law requires vacation rental owners to obtain a signed rental agreement for each reservation - therefore, after a reservation is booked, the primary guest will receive the rental agreement via email. The rental agreement must be electronically signed and returned within seven days to finalize the reservation. The whole process takes about ten or fifteen minutes and helps ensure the safety and security of both owner and guest.
