A Sleepy Bear's Dream is literally, as the name suggests, a dream. It sleeps up to 7 in two bedrooms and a sleeping loft, which overlooks the great room. In the middle of the great room is a 21 ft. tall tree which supports the main beams of the building. The front of the house has a bow shaped deck which extends over the water where fish are eagerly awaiting a handout [fish feed provided]. Both bedrooms have private balconies, and there are huge outdoor living spaces on each side of the building. The loft has its own set of balconies which can be reached through patio doors. When one is upstairs and looks over the great room to the water, sometimes, there is the illusion the building is moving. One has to be careful not to get seasick when the wind makes waves move in a certain direction. Throughout the cabin can be found examples of local craftsmen's talents, from the structure itself, which was owner designed with the assistance of M&S Log Homes and built by a local artisan, to the railings and the furniture, again which were created by local folk from locally acquired materials. A large recreation area is located on the ground floor. A hot tub, a pool table, and an exercise bike are now available. In the near future, there are plans for table tennis and a game table.

We used this lovely well stocked cabin to enjoy a family reunion with our kids. We didn't get a chance to see a white Christmas and the rain put a damper on our ability to enjoy all of the surroundings, but the place was beautiful. There is always a chance that something can go wrong, but Fred was quick to answer the call and fix things to the best of his ability. I look forward to having a chance to come back and enjoy ourselves under better circumstances.
A very comfortable home. The house is amazing and very relaxing. We hope to come back when the days are longer so we can hike out back. It was a perfect location with close access to the park and sites for rock climbing.
Whether you want to set back and do nothing, or get your heart pumping, the property has it all! When you walk through the door, the first thing you notice is that the cabin still has the "just finished construction" smell of pine. As you get settled in you'll find that the cabin is also equipped with everything you'll need for cooking. We should know was we prepared a huge Thanksgiving feast!
For those wanting to stretch the legs, there's a few trails to chose from. No matter which you chose, you'll likely see wildlife keeping an eye on you while you explore caves, out-croppings or simply listening to the calls of Pileated woodpeckers. For those wanting something a little more serene, there's a canoe. While out finding where the fish were hiding (we caught 2 catfish and 2 bass) we were surprised to see a red salamander daring the fish infested waters, swimming across the pond. He made it, likely because the fish were full from all the fish food our son put out thanks to the generosity of Fred, the owner.
Fred and his wife Janice are definitely an asset to the property. They have done an outstanding job keeping the cabin(s) and property kept up. While that would be enough to keep anyone busy, Fred claims to only work one day per week. If you see him, ask him what he does on that one day and your respect for him will grow tenfold!
Needless to say, we had a fantastic family reunion. Even those with a competitive edge got their fill playing on the gorgeous pool table! Then before bed, a dip in the hot tub complete with waterfall and color changing lights...this place was perfect!
This was our second visit to Sleepy Bear Cabin. Clean and thoughtfully appointed. Comfortable beds. Lovely view and peaceful hike around the pond. Will definitely return.
My wife and two younger boys have stayed at many cabins over the past few years in the Red River Gorge area. This cabin exceeded them all. Fred was so welcoming and kind in helping us plan our stay. Upon arrival the cabin was stunning. The cabin literally sits on the side of a 7 acre lake. Everything outside was tidy and neat. Inside was immaculate as it was obvious there was so much work put into the details. It was warm and inviting and everything was so clean, everything. The view from the living room window is breathtaking. We enjoyed hiking the trails around the entire lake, exploring the caves and taking the boat out onto the water! Inside the cabin was so nice we didn't want to be gone from it too long. We enjoyed meals together, playing pool and relaxing in the hot tub. We didn't want to leave. We most certainly will be back. The pictures and description online do not do it justice.
My family had a wonderful time at this cabin. It was everything we were expecting it to be and would definitely come back. It was the perfect get-away for family bonding and great times with friends around the campfire.
