About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 6+

Ideally located just over the Bourne Bridge between canal waters and harbor on a picturesque private island connected via causeway, is this lovely spacious water view three bedroom two bath cottage which sleeps 6 plus comfortably.Mashnee Island is a quiet hidden away retreat with only about 120 houses on it. You can swim, fish, kayak, bike to the nearby canal or just relax! The location could hardly be better in this family neighborhood with private beaches surrounding it.

The home has a lovely covered side deck off of dining area with grill and patio furniture for relaxing. The airy dining room opens into an inviting fireplaced living room with 42 inch flat screen television. This ranch style home easily lends itself to having all three bedrooms located on the main floor where there are 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. An added bonus is a comfortably furnished fireplaced family room downstairs with sleep sofa and also the 2nd full bathroom on this level.

Be as active as you want.....: Peaceful walks on the beaches or causeway are just the start. Relax and enjoy the peaceful quiet of this sanctuary by Reading a book, enjoying the view from our deck or just taking a walk around the island. This is a great area for families to enjoy quality time.

The fishing is great! Bring your rods and catch that blue or stripper you have been dreaming about. Bike, walk or Rollerblade the canal or hike the Red Brook Pond Conservation Area Trail. Ice skate at the Gallo Ice Arena, golf or just meander down the country roads towards Falmouth or Sandwich. Visit Aptucket Trading Post, the Cape Cod Children's Museum, or do a day trip to the Vineyard, Nantucket, Plymouth or Boston. Maybe you would like to visit a local winery,Coastal Vineyards in South Dartmouth or Cape Cod Winery in Falmouth or the Sandwich Glass Museum. There is plenty to do to keep you busy if you want; or slow it down and just relax.

See and experience the Cape's Beauty: With the summer traffic slowing and the Bourne Scallop Festival coming up on September 23, 24 and 25 and the Jazz Festival come explore the Cape during the other seasons. There is plenty to do anytime, flower shows, artisan shows and sales, historical walks and rides, food festivals, open house at Camp Edwards Base. You can be as busy as you wish. Take a break, you deserve it. See how lovely it is during the fall or come visit or see how we celebrate Christmas on Cape Cod. Experience the majestic peaceful silence of winter or visit the cape in the spring as the cycle begins again toward the busy summer. The Cape is not for one season it is for all seasons. Come and experience it all.

Great House & Location

  • 5 of 5

My family has been there 2 years in a row and I don't want to praise it to much because it will get harder to book and the price will go up. However, love the house and area and have no complaints. Good little fishing spot about a half mile down the beach where there is a rip tide which attracts some small Blues and Stripers. Joan is always great and house is clean and well maintained. Actually the only complaint I ever had was that I would sometimes walk into a clock that was solidly mounted on the wall. The next year we went it was gone.

great home, great neighborhood, great homeowners!

My family spent the winter in this lovely home on Mashnee Island. The view of the beach is absolutely gorgeous! This is an ideal spot for a summer getaway! Joan and Dan provided everything we could have needed for our stay, and when I had a problem, it was literally fixed within hours.

Mashnee Island

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The open floor plan in the common areas and the farmer's porch felt like a real vacation house. The house was immaculate and had all the amenities we were looking for while on vacation. Mashnee Island is a great place to relax and we will continue to plan vacations there and back at this house!

Graduation Headquarters!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very spacious yet cozy home which we transformed into "Graduation Headquarters" as we were in town for our son's graduation from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Family and friends from Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Florida gathered for the festivities and continue to talk about the home and how perfect it was in every way for our celebration! We were so pleased to be able to rent a home with: three bedrooms and two full baths; lots of extra sleeping options on the lower level; fully equipped kitchen; a lovely porch, spacious living and dining areas - just perfect for entertaining, beautiful beaches right around the corner and ample parking. From the minute we walked in, we were absolutely amazed at the spaciousness of the home! The best part was Joan, the owner. Knowing of our son's graduation and our preference of not wanting to move in or move out on that special day, she allowed us to move in mid-week and at a reduced rate. She quickly responded to all of our e-mails (this was our first rental - we had lots of questions!) and she always wanted to know what else she could do for us to make our stay the very best it could be. She even provided a graduation gift for our son! Out-of-state family members want to return and make this home "Family Reunion Headquarters" . . . and given Joan's kindness, a warm and inviting home and the beauty of the Cape, we're planning to do just that!

love mashnee island

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying on the island. As soon as we see the Bourne bridge on the horizon we know we are nearly there! The house is so easy to find without navigating through too many back roads. We stopped at the small store just before the island which had just the few items we had forgotten for dinner. Driving over the causeway you know that vacation has begun! The house has plenty of parking for the multiple people from out of town and their cars. The windows provide beautiful views of the harbor. The house is cozy and beautiful even when off season and not bikini weather:) We wrapped up tight after our holiday dinner and took a walk to the beach in the brisk air. We can't wait to return this summer!

We loved this location for our first ever Cape Cod experience!! During our stay, we were out exploring and sight seeing each day, but enjoyed morning and evening walks across the street to be on a sandy beach!

Situated on both sides of the canal, Bourne has the unique privilege of welcoming all travelers on to Cape Cod.This is why it is called the gateway to the cape.

Since 1627, Bourne has been known as a trading center. You may still visit this part of our history, Aptucxet Trading Post. Other points of interest are Bourne Scenic Park, located conveniently beneath the Bourne Bridge, the Buzzard Bay Railroad Bridge, and National Marine Life Center.

During the summer season, the town hosts Concerts in the Park, a 4th of July Parade and of course Cape Cod Baseball; however the fun does not stop when summer ends. The traffic has decreased in September when the Bourne Scallop Festival is held. Now with the backdrop of the autumn ocean breeze, the fall begins to drape the cape in lovely colors as the trees begin to turn with their majestic tones.

Come enjoy this quiet haven at the start of the Cape. It beckons to the weary traveler to come and rest a bit.
