A veritable home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Karin is the perfect host who attended to our every need and was a mine of information on local attractions and social scenery. The house was immaculate and is decorated with esprit and a sense for convenience. It's in the midst of a grown, quite diverse neighbourhood with a pictoresque restaurant (De Outback) close by. Bus stop and beautiful beach are conveniently close and Speightstown is not without merits (don't miss out on the Arlington House Museum).

family trip

  • 5 of 5

we loved our stay in this little gem in lower Carlton Barbados, Karin and Anderson really made us feel welcome and at home. the lovely with sandy beach is just down the street. Because the cottage is in a little local neighborhood you get a good feel of live in barbados. everyone is just so friendly and helpful. we loved to go for dinner at the outback, marcy's my kids favorite very local and autentic, the local supermarket { absolutly great food} . for more upscale we loved the seacat.

the cottage is very central located to many great day trips, Animal flower cove, Harrison Cave, Welch man gully, the animal wild life reserve to name a few are all in around 30 minutes drive , little tip don't forget to stop at a church or 2 the are beautiful.

this cottage is not for people that love all inclusive big resorts. this is for people that really like to experience the country the people and its culture.

we are a little family off 4 with young children. for us this was perfect. lovely cottage to unwind and call home for 10 days , great beach, good food and some rum punch , Happy kids. what do you want more,

Karin tanks for all your tips and suggestions.

A perfect first time in the Caribbean!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time. The proximity to the beach was perfect. The neighborhood was quiet (we have a young child and the quiet nights were a must) and the neighbors were welcoming and so friendly. Everyone waves and says good morning. I can't say that for most Americans in my neighborhood who I see every day.

Anderson, the property manager, was so charming and so sweet. He and my partner really hit it off both being handymen.

We walked to the fruit stand down the street many mornings and took the short bus ride to Speightstown for larger cooking needs. We cooked almost every night and ate outside in the Bajan breeze.

The flora and fauna amazed me!

We saw so many new plants and flowers that brought hummingbirds!

My Guyanese boyfriend was thrilled at the mangoes and limes on the ground and even climbed into a neighbor's breadfruit tree (with her blessing) and got us some breadfruit to eat.

The roosters became a family joke. The snails were fascinating and the kittens who snuck through the yard from time to time kept us entertained.

We brought our own hammock and threw it up in the back yard. Spent a lot of time swinging back and forth listening to the birds and watching the palm trees sway.

We even caught a double rainbow after one of the short, almost daily rains!

We daydream of having a local property of our own one day. But until then we will be coming back to our new home away from home on 1st Ave in Lower Carlton.

Perfect house on the West Side

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Karin's house in May and we loved it. We loved living with the locals as everyone is so nice and welcoming. The house is close to a great beaches and grocery shopping. The house was perfect for our family, the garden to sit down in the shade under the hibiscus tree, the front porch with sun, the rooms were great, bathroom was cleaned and the kitchen had everything you need. Thanks Anderson and Karin for taking care of us.

Lovely house in just the right spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at the house. Karin made sure everything was set for our visit. Her manager took care of the one issue (air conditioning wasn't cooling) that came up during our stay promptly. The house is clean, light and airy. The beach is steps away. Local bus transportation is convenient and the island is such fun to explore.

Awesome Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We are a professional couple from Canada who are semi- retired. We have travelled extensively and lived overseas doing third world development work. We are rural people and are most comfortable with " real" people and when immersed in a culture. This cottage, on this island, in this location was heaven. Not fancy by our Canadian standards but superior in its local setting. 4 minute walk to an awesome, quiet and safe beach. Nestled in a garden on a road full of kind, lovely , friendly Bajans. Two lovely gardens and a sweet front porch. Lime and pomegranate trees in the garden. Great management team who were easy to access. Close to local shops, grocery stores, nightlife and the bus line. Weather was wonderful in March and the sea was clean and refreshing. Local festivals are fun and lots to sightsee. Taxis are reasonable for a days outing sightseeing around the island. The cottage had ample room for the two of us. Air in one bedroom was fabulous. Water pressure and temperature of water were good. Kitchen is adequate. We often cooked our own meals. This is a real gem if you do not need luxury but want to lay back, relax and soak up the local culture.Good washing machine and clothesline. We even had names for the local chickens who roam the area. We felt very safe , but as previously mentioned, we are seasoned travellers and do not take unnecessary risks.

Thank you Karin for making this possible!!!

Until next year, Cheers.

Canadians Jo and Bob
