I arrived as a traveller, after 3 days fell in love with this island and its people and decided to stay. At other places on this planet you work to survive. In Barbados you enjoy life no matter how hard you have to work.

Set in an authentic village close to the beach you can experience Caribbean life style as well as modern life style such as fancy restaurants on the beach, golf, bars and stylish shopping malls nearby.
Azalea cottage is a modern home in a caribbean setting. It makes you feel at home in a different world.
We are a professional couple from Canada who are semi- retired. We have travelled extensively and lived overseas doing third world development work. We are rural people and are most comfortable with " real" people and when immersed in a culture. This cottage, on this island, in this location was heaven. Not fancy by our Canadian standards but superior in its local setting. 4 minute walk to an awesome, quiet and safe beach. Nestled in a garden on a road full of kind, lovely , friendly Bajans. Two lovely gardens and a sweet front porch. Lime and pomegranate trees in the garden. Great management team who were easy to access. Close to local shops, grocery stores, nightlife and the bus line. Weather was wonderful in March and the sea was clean and refreshing. Local festivals are fun and lots to sightsee. Taxis are reasonable for a days outing sightseeing around the island. The cottage had ample room for the two of us. Air in one bedroom was fabulous. Water pressure and temperature of water were good. Kitchen is adequate. We often cooked our own meals. This is a real gem if you do not need luxury but want to lay back, relax and soak up the local culture.Good washing machine and clothesline. We even had names for the local chickens who roam the area. We felt very safe , but as previously mentioned, we are seasoned travellers and do not take unnecessary risks.
Thank you Karin for making this possible!!!
Until next year, Cheers.

A beautiful cottage within walking distance of a fantastic beach. Immaculately clean with good facilities for self catering. Local restaurant de outback was excellent too. Very friendly neighbours and Karin was an excellent host.
We hired a car and travelled all over this beautiful island. Highly recommend a trip to Bathsheba, g thing lost over the hills t adds to th fun, Harrison's cave walk through tour was superb, good times catamaran boat trip was great fun and snorkelling off th local beach at reeds bay and Mullins beach were lovely highlights. If you want a cosy friendly stay in a real barabadis village with local people I cannot recommend this place highly enough!
The cottage was very cozy nestled in a quiet area. Theres a convenience store and bar on the same street and the people really very welcoming. Not to mention Thunder Bay beach is a 5 minute walk from the cottage. My fiance and I will be using this rental again.
The cottage was cute at first. Definitely need use of a car if staying in st. James. Not near anything except the beach. Beaches are absolutely stunning. We had 7 cockroaches in the house. We couldn't keep the windows open or more would fly in. The bathroom light was not working. All the towels had long black hairs attached to them. The shower drain was plugged with thick black hairs we had to pull out so the water would drain. We asked the owner to spray and no one came around to do it. On the last day she messaged us saying we would not let the house cleaner in to spray. We were not around during the days and did not want to waste our vacation waiting for a cleaner to come along. I would have figured the House cleaners and managers should have spare keys to get into the house while the visitors are away. The doors didn't lock properly from the outside, so we never felt secure leaving our belonging in the house. There is no security/safety box for passports etc. I would not recommend staying here and I would never come back to this place.
Overall, we had an enjoyable stay. The water was a beautiful turquoise color and it was crystal clear. There were many places to snorkel and see the marine life right where we were staying. The beaches were very quiet. Some days, we had the entire beach to ourselves. The locals were all very friendly and always greeted us. They sold fruits and souvenirs along the beaches. There were also many water activities that were offered such as a trip to see the turtles, jet skiing, water skiing, the banana, etc. We made fresh lemonade to take to the beach with us from the lemon trees growing around the house. The food in the restaurants was overpriced due to the fact that it was imported. There was AC in the house which provided relief on hot days but it was only in one room. The kitchen provided all the necessary utensils that we needed and there were also locals that were always ready to help. Mostly, we stayed on the west coast but took a trip to the North to see the Animal Flower Cave and the cliffs. We also took a trip to the south to surf. There were always buses and taxis that we could catch that would take us around the island. The weather was perfect. Although we went during the rainy season, the rain never ruined our plans. It rained mostly during the nights and never rained for more than five minutes straight during the day when we were at the beach. The partly cloudy weather also protected us from the sun so that we ended up getting tan instead of sunburns. We would definitely come back to Barbados for a longer stay. It was so beautiful and it seemed like a dream.
My husband and I stayed here and LOVED it! The house was perfect for us, it was small (could have comfortably had 2 more staying in the house) and clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen. We rented a car hoping to go explore the whole island and once we got there we ended up loving the beach right by the house in walking distance to it. It had awesome snorkeling and such clear beautiful water. The beach isn't very busy either which is awesome! The neighbours were very nice and friendly, felt very welcomed and safe. Thanks for the stay!
