We are very pleased Bonnie, and the family, thoroughly enjoyed the house. As guests, they were thoughtful and the house was left in perfect condition. They are most welcome to come again, anytime. Thank you for the kind words, Bonnie.
We had a great weekend in the Catskills. Tons of space and plenty to do. Would definitely stay again and would recommend to others!
First, Paul and Linda are great hosts. The house was not only beautiful, but they took great care to make it comfortable and not on the cheap. We stayed over the summer which really isn't the target market, plus we for two+ months when most stay for a weekend or so--therefore, our experience is somewhat unique. The house itself could probably sleep a few more than advertised because there are several couches. But for our visit, it was two humans and two adult indoor cats and we all enjoyed our stay very much.
The photos are very accurate. Overall, it was clean and well-maintained, with a few minor exceptions.
The house is quite remote, which served our purposes. There is so much ambient nature, which really served my partner well. We have had several consecutive very stressful years, so the quiet, and the myriad of animals and birds really helped his soul. We barely used the television, which is unusual for me.. We brought up two boxes of books, but it turned out, they had an extensive and eclectic library which kept us busy.
Be aware the town is very winter-season oriented (for skiing) and it's pricey. We didn't anticipate either of those factors. For a location that depends on tourism, it struck us as very odd how little information was available online about restaurants, grocery stores etc. At best, we could find a place--maybe some reviews-- but there wouldn't be a menu or prices.
Nor did we anticipate there would be no working landline at all; it was a bit ambiguous in the write-up. We did know in advance cell reception is very good; the internet isn't, and drops out periodically, sometimes several times a day. None of these would be concerns for short-terms visits. But being there as long as we were, I had to work and I don't like cells. But, that was a very specific issue only relating to us.
The only serious complaint i had personally is that the place can swelter from the summer heat, and the one ceiling fan in the living room does little to nothing to offset this. There are very effective curtains which block out the sun and the coolness at night, they were just not enough. This was the sole factor in determining whether to award four or five stars. But because just about everything else was so great, we decided to round up,
Not only would we recommend this house, we would consider renting it again, but be warned: there are a lot of unanticipated fees imposed by VRBO/Homeaway.
The house was very clean and everything was provided for! Lots of wood for the indoor stove and the fire pit!
My husband and I spent our anniversary trip in Windham this year. Very nice and relaxing. There are several restaurants in the town, thought we were only able to try one. Only downside is that several "attractions" were either closed or were an hour away. However, we still had a nice time and everything we needed was available. The house is a little older, but maintained. It is a more country-like setting so be aware of bugs trying to make their way in. :)
Property was clean and well stocked. Plenty of firewood, toilet paper, sheets, blankets, appliances etc. I stayed the month of September and it was perfect weather. This is a beautiful property with a great view. Hot water never ran out. Plenty of room in the laundry room. Heat worked well the one time that I used it. I probably had about 15 bonfires during the month and didn't run out of firewood. On a clear night the stars are excellent. The first morning at the house there was a deer in the yard. Windham is a very cute town and you're 5 minutes and only one turn away from the center of town. There is nothing in the Catskills more than 40 minutes away (Hunter is 20 minutes). It's a super convenient but perfectly secluded location. There's a long winding dirt driveway. We arrived at night and it was very dramatic driving up the dark driveway and suddenly seeing the house at the end. You cannot see anyone else's house from this house. The house has charm. The owner keeps a lot of great books all over the house. It's a great place to read. Linda makes herself very available, she responds to texts quickly. There were some billing issues in the beginning of the process but they were worked out. In all our interactions I felt she was honest and courteous. I will definitely rent this place again.
