Vivenda Xavier is situated at the little fisherman village named Porto Formoso, (the marvellous port). Just about 3 minutes from the vivenda you'l find is the local beach Praia dos Moinhos. A very particular small beach with outstanding sanitary facilities. Not far away you may enjoy a good cup of tea at Chá de Porto Formoso. One of the two old family business in Europe involved in tea production. This, all fashioned with the little fisherman port and the local church from 1509, turns this little place into a unique spot in Europe. The inhabitants make their living today predominantly from agriculture, cattle breeding, and fishing.
I do like to observe, makes me forming ideas about people, animals and things in life. I do like teaching because it passes on the little I know to the one he wants to know what I know. I like to write lyrics for songs to be sung and offered to those who may enjoy them. I like to sleep because mostly is always good to dream.
I love the Azores because they offer a divine beauty, this spot of the world embrace me with their nature, and surprise me with his characteristics. I like good wine, because I am a son of Earth, I like football even still do not knowing why. I like the sun because it warms me up, I love a good joke to wake up or drive away the melancholy or the routine. The well being of my 'guests' worries me, I feel good sharing with others my little corner planted by the sea.
Luís xavier purchased this house in 1998
I am not living on S. Miguel or in Portugal, but in the Netherlands. I left Portugal very young, 18 years old, alone, living my family behind, my country and my friends. A choice I had to make, to achieve a better live.
All my family comes from the Azores, S. MigueI. I always remember as a child, my parents homesickness talks about they're home land. They had left the Azores to the mainland, Lisbon where I was born in 1955, and they never went back to the Azores! 18 years ago I have made my first visit to the land of my parents and please believe-me, it was a wonderful feeling during my first steps on the island. I felt home and yet never had been there before! A year later me and my dutch wife decided to by our little place, planted at the sea. Every time we can, we spend some time there, the time left, we like to share it with people by renting it, with everyone who wants to enjoy the Azores.
So unfortunately I believe I will not be there to meet you! I will get in touch by phone just after your arrival and again a few days later to make sure you will have everything to your liking.
The vivenda is a complete furnished holiday home that makes it possible for you, to bring only your personal things, and where you will relax thanks to all the comfort and the privacy. On this breathtaking beautiful, unforgettable spot you enjoy in the winter a comfortable living room with hearth. In the summer the joy of the wonderful see and mountain view from the balcony. In the spring your certainly will enjoy both: The sunny terrace and the crackling fire during the romantic evenings. This atmosphere will certainly be even more romantic thanks to the whistling of the many birds, the nearest waterfall and the always present Atlantic ocean.
The vacation home was well maintained and exceptional clean.
The owner made us quite welcome, inviting us to use all the amenities of the home. Beautiful view from the balcony. Five minute walk to the beach. Would recommend this house !! Would return to Azores and rent again. Five to ten minute drive to Ribeira Granda.
This villa has an amazing location, just on the edge of the small village of praia dos moinhos, which I think is the nicest beach on the whole island. It hosts a really well run beach cafe with a wide range of food, open from 10am to 10pm.
The view from the villas balcony is stunning, right over the ocean and at night you can hear the sea
The villa itself is spacious, with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and the living space consists of a spacious lounge/dining room, kitchen and a large outside balcony.
Lluis, the owner, is very attentive and he gets 5 stars for all the communications with him. He is very caring and ensures that you have arrived safely, calling you on the house phone when you have arrived, and he provides a food parcel so you can have a cup of tea after your journey. Nothing is too much trouble for him and you can call or email him at any time.
The villa itself, gets 4 stars from me. It would have had 5 stars but a few little points that could be improved are :
The 3rd bedroom is in the attic and is accessed by a tiny spiral staircase which I just didnt feel safe on at all so I would be very hesitant to allow smaller children to use it.
The pillows are not great.Quite hard and not enough of them. Im a stickler for "hotel quality bedding" and improvements could be made by providing more pillows per room and softer ones
The villa overall was clean, but it could do with a "spring clean". SOme of the bedroom drawers had dead insects in them, the microwave had not been cleaned and was full of crumbs and the skirting boards could all do with a good scrub - but overall it was clean enough as a holiday villa. ALthough cool boxes and bags were provided in the kitchen, they were mouldy and the cool box was filthy - we just didnt bother using them as they were quite gross. They really need throwing away and replacing with new ones - or take your own. The BBQ was still full of old burnt wood and ash from a previous occupant.
It gets 4 stars for being extremely well equipped in the kitchen, with just about everything you need. Proper oven and grill and microwave. Washer and a tumble dryer proved very useful. A cosy lounge with lovely sofa, log fire, large dining table, TV and music systems. Two well equipped bathrooms which are spacious. Heating is provided for cooler evenings, although we didnt need it as it was warm in May. Overall its a lovely place and I would definitely go back.
The lovely beach is a ten minute walk.
This home was the perfect base for our exploration of Sao Miguel. It is centrally located to all island destinations. We enjoyed being away from city life, enjoying the quiet countryside, including a cattle drive in front of the house and daily mink can washing at the spring across the street. A lovely bucolic setting. The house is inviting, has a well equipped kitchen, comfortable lay out and a wonderful view of the ocean from the living area. The owner was attentive, called upon our arrival to be assured the house was to our satisfaction and again at the end to see if we had enjoyed our holiday and if we had any concerns he should address. (We had none.) This home has been the perfect retreat for us.
Vivenda Xavier could also be your next holiday home, and very soon, you could be enjoying this unique little piece of earth on the Atlantic, somewhere between Europe and the United States of America, the island São Miguel.
Having a capacity for at least 4 persons the vivenda offers you and your family or your friends enough room to enjoy a unforgettable holiday at one of the most beautiful places of the world.
The Azores Archipelago is a paradise for nature lovers. Highly well shaped lakes well adorned with all sorts of plants and flowers. Amazing views on the top of the mountains over land, the see and sometimes over seaside's. Deep green craters born out washed out vulcanos, landscapes and sky's that have kept their purity. A country live with melodies of silence to discover.
The beaches of the biggest island are a mixed bag, but all of them remain incredibly picturesque, showing steep cliffs that plunge into the deep blue waters of the Atlantic.
Water sports like sailing, windsurfing, surfing and diving are a easy to practice. There are little ports all over the island.
Whale watching, is particularly popular. Trips whale watching can be taken from any one of the separated ports on the island.
The wildlife is truly amazing, both on land and in the sea. Swimming with dolphins and deep sea fishing trips are particularly special, as you really get a sense of being far from land, in a world where these magnificent creatures are truly at home. On land, there are infinite walks to enjoy, taking you through the natural, unspoilt habitats of Azores wildlife, especially some of the 220 bird species that made the Azores their home. There are many walks to join with or without the benefit from the huge experience of the Azores tourist guides and nature wardens.
Can't you miss your golf court? There are two golf courses at S. Miguel. Both the courses, Batalha and Furnas offer testing golf and stunning views.
