I live in Siesta Key, Florida and spend months at a time at 'One Rhythm Villa' in Jamaica. Doing this, I feel good and at home...I am grateful..I always Love it when family and friends find their way for a visit...
I especially favor this location because it is private, quiet and on the seaside.I Love the Sea. When I first came upon this area, it was an instant knowing for me that I would one day be at home here in Jamaica. That was almost 15 years ago. When I first saw the Sea, it was full of so many different shades of turquoise that I could not look away.... so I just sat in gratitude of the beauty surrounding me & took it all in.
One Rhythm Villa opens up to the outside gardens and sitting areas, it is like having a flower garden inside. There is a gentle sea breeze that flows through the villa most all day. Jamaica gives me the feeling that I am always in Love.....I am blessed!

Just wanted to write as I have been thinking about your home and community in Jamaica constantly since returning in the spring. The time spent there with Annette and Johnny will forever be in our hearts. Those two people are some of the best that we have ever had the pleasure of spending time with . Their gifts of connection and intuition in being with new people are really incredible. I can't imagine that there would be anyone who could fill Annettes's shoes as far as providing the level of insight, kind support and hospitality that she does.
Brian and I are dreaming about when we can come back! Trelawny is a most special community and the way of life and perspective of the folks that we have spent time with there have been an inspiration to us since we have come back. The trip really highlighted the blessings and shortcomings of our own life and community in such a powerful way. I only wish that we could travel back to Jamaica more often...
I can't wait to send an email with some dates that we would love to come back to your home. The next time we will bring some friends. I can't wait to share this community and your home with some friends or family.
Hope you are well. Thanks again for creating a portal to such a lovely community and culture for us. I could have never imagined that a vacation could have such an impact on our life!

I wanted to share a special experience with by daughter on her 12th birthday & I couldn't have chosen a more perfect vacation spot! One Rhythm and everyone around made my girls birthday absolutely magical!
When we arrived Johnny picked us up at the airport and the huge smile on his face made us realize every little thing was gonna be all right! Don't worry about a thing Ms. Annette said, so we didn't. She took care of all our needs, what a joy it was to not worry about preparing meals and know what she cooked would be perfect! Ms. Annette had the baker deliver the most delicious birthday cake and every meal she prepared was a delight.
Snorkeling early morning in the Sea was so peaceful. Our guide took us to a great spot right near the villa! We loved exploring the caves and checking out the shop in the fishing village and meeting the locals. The best part was waking up and walking right out to the beach every morning! The beauty can not be explained, only experienced. I wish I could share all my pictures!
I think this will become a yearly tradition for me and my daughter. She fell in love with Jamaica and said I will never be able to top this birthday! We cant wait to get back to One Rhythm and the one love we felt there. Thank you Ms. Karen for sharing your villa and your Jamaican family with us.
First let me start by saying, Karen thanks for opening your villa to us.. Even though my time in Jamaica was do to a family reunion, I plan on repeating this trip annually. My time at one rhythm was perfect. This villa is peaceful and just allows you to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Annette was really wonderful, her cooking is on point but more importantly she enhances your stay with her warm presence.
We loved the chillness of Trelawny but when we were ready for more action.. Johnny was our guy... he was great in accommodating us and taking us to Negril & Ochi, we truly had a blast!
Karen, I wish I could articulate more exquisitely.. why I gave you 5 stars but to put it plain and simple .. "we just had a good time!!"
As first time travelers to Jamaica, we had a ton of questions and doubts with regard to the villa and the place in general. Karen (the owner) was absolutely wonderful, prompt, and courteous in answering the myriad of questions I had. She settled most of our doubts, etc. Would book her villa again without a second’s thought.
Once we arrived in Jamaica, we were met by the colorful Johnny, a reggae aficionado, who randomly belts out lines as well. Be forewarned that his van is not a Cadillac or even a Volkswagen bus. It is a miscolored utilitarian vehicle with ice cold air conditioning and gets you where you want to go without issues. He is an amazingly warm and friendly gentleman and full of tales, whose veracity should not be checked, lest its charm be lost. Johnny is a wonderful guide as well. Funnily, he knows everyone in Duncan’s bay. Rather, everyone knows Johnny
We were greeted by another wonderful person, Ms. Annette at the villa. To say she took care of us is an understatement. She cooked amazingly delicious healthy meals for us for the duration of the stay and helped us celebrate our Son’s 11th birthday making dishes he liked and also hanging up banners. She may appear serious and commanding, but she is neither.
The Villa was simply astounding. With windows and doors open, the warm Caribbean breeze will invade the house and envelop you in heavenly calm. Comfortable rooms, beautiful garden area with cradle like hammock hanging from huge Almond trees.
The beach, a mere two minutes’ walk, is absolutely stunning. Since we went off-season, we had the beach all to ourselves, save for a few locals who cannot be friendlier. Some sections of the water does have rocks, but once you find the sandy areas, it is nothing but soft silky white sand caressing your feet as the warm waves wash you.
Please carry a bit of cash with you (US Dollars accepted everywhere) as many places only take cash. If you have a choice between Duncans River Falls or Blue Hole, do the blue hole trip, it is an adventure getting there, but worth it! As far as costs, I think 30 dollars a day can comfortably feed a family of four, three delicious, well-balanced Ms. Annette meals a day. Even McDonalds cannot beat that.
If you even have a sliver of doubt. Cast it away and go to One Rhythm Villa. You will love it.
I can't enough of this place!!! Third time visiting and it keeps getting better and better. The owner is so accommodating and the place is absolutely beautiful! Ms. Annette can cook the most delicious food- banana frittas, brown stew chicken, peanut porridge and so much more! Oh and that coleslaw!! Yum!!! One of the most relaxing experiences of my life! I'll be back- soon come!!
Our daughter asked for a different kind of senior trip. She asked to go to Jamaica and learn more about the cuisine. We’ve always had good luck with VRBO so that is where I started my search. I am so glad I found “One Rhythm”. It was exactly what we wanted. It is beautiful, charming, peaceful, clean, and close to the water! Karen is very easy to work with and answered all of our questions.
Our daughter learned a lot from Ms. Annette. Unfortunately, like most great cooks, she doesn’t use recipes; everything is stored in her head. She did recommend a local cook book to help with the seasonings, amounts, and ingredients. We loved going to the market with Ms. Annette and planning the menus. She asked us which things we liked and told us about many of the items we weren’t familiar with. Her meals were different every day and were always delicious, healthy, and pleasing. Ms. Sandra cooked for us too and her meals were scrumptious as well. Using fresh ingredients made the food have such a wonderful flavor. One night we had lobster and crab that had been caught an hour before it was on the table! What a treat.
Johnny, our driver, was so much fun. He told us so much information about Jamaica and her history and culture. He played great music and knew someone everywhere we went. When we first arrived Johnny and Ms. Annette helped us plan our days. They let us know which days to visit each place depending on when the cruise ships were docked. This made for less crowds and a much more enjoyable experience at the tourist attractions. The location of “One Rhythm” is perfect for excursions. We traveled to Ocho Rios and visited Dunn’s River Falls and the Blue Hole. Both were extremely fun and adventurous. The kids loved swinging off the rocks into the water, going through caves, and rappelling down the rocks. I think my husband and I had just as much fun. We drove up in the mountains another day and saw school children, small villages, and lots of goats. Johnny did an awesome job of showing us things we would have never seen. He also took us to Good Hope Plantation, which was beautiful. While there we went zip lining and tubing down the Martha Brae. Our days at “One Rhythm” were just as fun. Snorkeling and playing in the crystal clear water were heavenly. We had the beach to ourselves most of the time.
Thanks Ms. Annette for taking such good care of us and making this a special and memorable vacation. One Love!
We have settled in at One Rhythm for one week of vacation in January or February the past 4 years. There are many locations where one can escape from a U.S. Midwest winter but we love Jamaica and in particular this villa.
Although the owner Ms. Karen offers the services of a local driver for airport pick up and side tours, we have always found the mobility of having our own rental car the only way to go! Driving there is an adventure I enjoy and island car rentals expenses are very reasonable.
Ms. Karen has taken this corner lot in the seaside beach area outside the town of Duncan's and carved out a sweet vacation spot. The villa is beautifully maintained, inspirational messages are imprinted in the outdoor tile work and throughout the home. The yard has several private sitting areas where flowing plants please the eye during the day and the tree frogs serenade you at night.
Ms. Annette, the on-site manager, is amazing. She serves her guests incredible meals and anticipates your daily needs. She sources fresh fish, fruits and vegetables for all her meals and not only are they always delicious, they are also well balanced and picture perfect. We look forward to her wonderful creations at breakfast and dinner! Her hospitality training shines through all she does for her guests. This also is her community and we refer to her as THE Chamber of Commerce. Most importantly we consider her and her associates our friends.
Anticipating a return to One Rhythm means thinking about the days that start with a walk on the beach, then several cups of rich blue mountain coffee accompanied by a little local newspaper reading session (Ms. Annette found a newspaper carrier just for us); perhaps the day involves a lot of beach time or involves a side trip to Runaway Bay for a round of golf or a trip to Falmouth or Montego Bay for some people watching or shopping; afternoons might include a nap in the warm breeze-filled bedrooms or time spent reading a book in one of the outdoor hammocks; evenings include another walk on the beach, or a walk to Leroy's Bar for a Red Stripe and some Reggae; after an amazing dinner we play dominos, star gaze or listen to some music while sipping some island rum.
This vacation spot can be as quiet or as busy as you want. But it always includes great food at a beautiful beach getaway in a community with some lovely people who become your friends.
Swim with the dolphins at Dolphins Cove, experience the Dunns River Falls and shopping in local Jamaican markets, also Mystic Mountain Amusement Park
