Overview

About the property

Beautiful, bright, open-concept 6 bed, 4 bath Country Lodge w/14 acres IN ITHACA

Introducing Shangri-Lodge, our newest luxury vacation home in the Finger Lakes. The synopsis: a 3600 square foot home renovated in 2013-2014 featuring six bedrooms, four bathrooms, on a spacious 14+ acre property with gardens, lawns, fields, barns, a huge pond, many mature trees and a creek with it's own little waterfalls. Windows and skylights galore allow the home to be flooded with light and give you picturesque views out every window. Located in Ithaca, 6 minutes from downtown and close to both Cayuga and Seneca Lake Wine Trails.

The Details:

This delightful, spacious home began as a mid-century ranch with three bedrooms. In the 1980's an addition doubled the space by adding a vaulted great room, two more bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and a secluded master suite with a queen and a single bed on the second floor. You can just picture the Rat Pack boys mixing drinks in the great room and lounging around on the sofas in front of the fireplace so large you could walk in to it!

Since purchasing the house in June of 2013, we have completely remodeled the kitchen into a huge, bright, beautiful space that marries modern technology and convenience with some charming farm-style details. With 19 feet of counter space plus a 12 foot island, you can accommodate many cooks and helpers. The commercial-style 48' rangetop has four burners and a very large griddle. The kitchen is also outfitted with Frigidaire Gallery series double ovens and their Professional series refrigerator and separate freezer (yes, lots of space!) and a Bosch SilencePlus dishwasher.

Also in our renovation work, two bathrooms which were outdated and had teeny tiny prefab shower stalls have been gutted, reconfigured and built with custom spacious tiled showers (and, of course, new vanities, toilets and fixtures as well). The open concept space allows you to see from the great room into the kitchen as well as the dining room and conversation area in the library. The lower level has a spacious family room with sectional couch, pool table, a game table, flat screen HDTV and an electric fireplace. It is a fantastic, bright space to watch movie or sports, play games or as a refuge for the kids to get away from the adults.

Five of the bedrooms are on the first floor, with one of them having an en suite bathroom. There are two hall bathrooms also on the first floor, one with a shower/tub combination and the other with a shower. This layout works very well for people with limited mobility or who prefer not to do stairs. The sixth bedroom with queen bed, en suite bathroom and an additional single bed is on the second floor.

Let's talk about the great outdoors. The property is over 14 acres, divided by a road. Surrounding the house are gardens, trees and lawn that give way to fields of corn and forests. On the house side of the street, a creek runs the border of the property and continues on to refresh the inviting pond on the other side of the street. We have included a seven- person hot tub in a private area right out the side of the house within view of the creek. On the other side of the house you will find the fire pit with 12 Adirondack chairs and open lawn. Across the street is the natural pond with a nearby shelter to use as a picnic pavilion or just to get out of the sun.

Great flow, easy living, light, space, the outdoors, all of these factors make Shangri-Lodge an amazing house for people to come together and enjoy each other's company.

NOTE: Not suitable for weddings, receptions, parties or gatherings which include outside guests. Property is for the use and enjoyment of registered guests only, unless prior approval from owners is given.

Why KC Christopher chose Cayuga Lake

This estate offers the opportunity to live in the country while being in the city. What makes this chateau / country house unique

This is a rare gem, surrounded by nature's beauty and only minutes from downtown Ithaca but a world away from traffic, people and stress. A truly private oasis awaits you.

Enjoyed our stay with a couple caveats

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The house was well stocked. We really enjoyed the outdoor dining area and the fire pit. The house easily accomadated 3 families and their kids. The house is centrally located to local attractions and the interior was clean at check in.

We were very disappointed to learn during check in that the pond and rope swing were off limits due to various animal infestations. Additionally, there was a significant amount of mouse poop on the front porch. We realize the house is located in a wooded area, however, it was clear that that area hadn't been cleaned recently, rendering the porch swing useless. Additionally, the wireless internet left a lot to be desired. Just a heads up to anyone that needs to address work issues (We headed to town to the local Marriott :) )

Owner's Response: Thank you Sara, we appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your stay and we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We are very sorry that the pond was not available for your use due to a small family of muskrats deciding they should move in to it. It did take a week for the muskrats to be captured and removed from the pond and we erred on the side of caution by making swimming off-limits until the pond was declared critter-free. For future customers, we would like you to know that the pond is a natural feature unlike a swimming pool, and at times there can be geese, great blue heron, ducks and other wildlife hanging out there. It is part of living in the country, and many of our city-based customers enjoy the opportunity to see the natural habitat. Also, speaking of nature, the droppings found on the front porch were from a bat that lives way up in the peak of the porch roof, not from mice. These creatures are quite adept at eating insects (less mosquitos, more comfort around the fire pit!). Some nights, if your lucky, you may see some bats swooping around the fields beyond the fire pit eating those tasty treats. The porch is swept off each time we clean the house for the next check-in. If you are looking for a country getaway that is close to city amenities, large lakes and great wineries, Shangri-Lodge might just be what you are looking for. Best, KC & Mitch

An excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

Everyone in our group - ages 79 to 3 - loved this property. It is beautifully maintained inside and out. The youngsters loved running around in the yard; the adults loved the spacious well appointed interior. And we all liked going for Purity ice cream. The owners are very responsive and justifiedly proud of this property.

Wonderful house for our family to celebrate Cornell's Graduation weekend. Very close to campus, shops, and restaurants. The fire pit and hot tub was an extra added bonus.

Lovely Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Shangri-Lodge was just right for our group of 8 consisting of both family and friends. The kitchen and other gathering areas are well appointed and inviting. The main floor bedrooms are nicely decorated and the beds themselves quite comfortable. We hosted a party one evening and the kitchen had everything we needed to create a nice buffet. You have to hope that the weather allows you to enjoy all of the outdoor areas associated with the house, but, if not, the fireplace, pool table, hot tub, reading and game playing areas all provide entertainment in a cozy setting. Just looking at the grounds from inside the house is a treat.

The location is ideal as you are in the countryside northwest of Ithaca but it is just 10-15 minutes to The Commons. There are lots of great restaurants in the area and of course one is near the wineries, cideries, breweries, distilleries, waterfalls, hiking, and Lake Cayuga water activities. Something for everyone!

KC and Mitch are extremely easy to work with and clearly understand how the small touches make staying here enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Spacious, relaxing, private and fun!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 10 stayed for a long weekend in the Shangri-Lodge and we had an excellent time. This home is so large we were joking about getting lost. Most of the rooms are updated and very modern. There are so many advantages to staying here such as the hot-tub, the immaculate kitchen, comfortable beds and outdoor areas. KC and Mitch were so responsive and helpful throughout. This is about a ten minute drive from town and we were easily able to get taxis. There is a lot to do in the area so if you are looking for a good vacation with a larger group, don't hesitate to book!

Ithaca is an ivy-league college town which has numerous cultural activities and an 'enlightened' population, making it laid-back and progressive at the same time.

Surrounding this small and vibrant city you'll find a strong agricultural countryside spotted by quaint towns and villages. In addition to over a hundred independent wineries, there are artisanal cheese-makers, micro-breweries, spirit distilleries, farmer's markets and organic produce roadside stands.

Popular activities include wine tasting in a region known for award-winning wines and hiking in the area's state and national parks while viewing over 150 magnificent waterfalls. There are local and unique festivals all year-round and excellent restaurants, many of which have a locavour philosophy to bring you the best and freshest ingredients this agricultural region has to offer.
