Lull yourself to sleep with the sounds of the ocean and wake up with the distant whistle of the Block Island Ferry. The Cottage by the Sea is nestled in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Narragansett. Located one block from a rocky ocean entryway, and the best surf break in Rhode Island, this sparkling clean home gives you access to the all the best activities Rhode Island has to offer.

The Cottage has beautiful clean and cozy bedrooms with fresh linens, a newer bathroom, refreshing outdoor shower, and is sparkling clean and comfortable. With a large deck and cute New England yard, sip coffee while listening to the waves or gaze at the massive amounts of stars while enjoying a cocktail at night. For a night off, there are three flat screen televisions with cable (and WiFi), one in each bedroom and one with a large lounging couch so the family can watch a movie together.

The home is located within walking distance to the stunning lighthouse and some of Narragansett's best coastlines, restaurants, and pubs including Ocean Road Bistro, Spain Restaurant, Chair Five, Famous Aunt Carrie's (for ice cream and New England fare - Yum!), Iggy's, and Charlie O's Tavern.

Also, check out Back Beach, an eight minute walk, for fishing, swimming (no lifeguard or facilities), and some of the most spectacular views of the ocean that you will ever see.

A quick run or bike brings you to either Sand Hill Cove (great for young children and children of any age) or Scarborough Beaches with big waves, a two minute car ride from the home; both with lifeguards, bathrooms, and snack bars...or pop open a beach chair at the break, one block from the house where you can watch the sun rise, wade in the water to look for seashells, and maybe see some ocean animals.

Whale watching, a trip on the Block Island Ferry, or deep sea fishing is only five minutes away. A twenty minute car ride brings you to world famous Newport for shopping, dining, and yachting.

Start you New England beach tradition today with The Waters Edge Cottage by the Sea.

Absolutely wonderful

  • 5 of 5

The house was just what we needed. We used it for a reunion of college friends. The house is very clean and very homey. I would absolutely stay here again. The owner of the home was very accommodating and nice to us. She left many amenities that were available to us. We look forward to staying here again.

Fantastic beach cottage

  • 5 of 5

Well appointed beach house. Comfortable beds, well stocked with everything you need. Our host even left us a basket with coffee and cream and wine & cheese. Easy walk to the beach and Point Judith lighthouse. Close to restaurants in Narragansett and the University of Rhode Island. We’ll be back!

Great stay near the ocean

  • 5 of 5

This charming and rustic cottage is within walking distance to the ocean, Iggy's (gotta try the doughboys) and Aunt Carries. The Block Island Ferry at Galilee is a 7 min drive or 15 min bike ride. Point Judith lighthouse, Fisherman's Memorial, and the Back beach (free) are within walking distance (10-15 min). The house is cozy yet spacious enough for everyone to have their own space. It had everything we needed for a family of 4, a shared backyard, semi-private rear deck with outdoor grill, a large table and seating for 6, plus an outdoor shower! There are 3 window AC units and a central exhaust fan at the peak of the kitchen which draws heat out and pulls fresh air in. We were there mid-August with temperatures in the low to mid 80s. It does get warm in the middle of the day but mornings and evenings were cool. The owner was very accommodating and let us check in early and check out later because our schedules worked out. They live next door and welcomed us with a nice gift basket. Thanks for the pointers for us first time RI visitors. The only thing missing is a washer and dryer. I believe they have plans for an addition and renovation in the near future. The main business district is a 10 min drive and has everything you will need.

Our relaxing week at the cottage by the sea

  • 5 of 5

My family thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in this adorable cottage. There was plenty of room for all 5 children and their "stuff". After dinner, we would walk down to the ocean, and the children could even ride their bikes if they preferred. We loved the sound of the lighthouse horn blowing as we had our tea on the front lawn. As a runner, I was able to run to the lighthouse in the morning before heading out for the day with the family The whole family enjoyed walking up to Aunt Carrie's or Iggy's for some ice cream after our busy day at the ocean Additionally, the manager of the property was very easy to deal with, which made our trip carefree!! This family will be sure to return!!

Nice place!

Nice place! Just a few caveats

We had a very nice, relaxing week at this cottage. It was a bit pricy for no real sea view, but clean, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen and bath were modern, and it's a block to the shore and a 2 minute ride to Iggy's, the lighthouse, or Sand Hill Cove, where you can swing on the swings and watch the sun set in the sea. Or drive a few more minutes to Narragansett, and don't forget to stop at Brickley's for ice cream in handmade cones!

A couple of things: the Internet worked fine but the TV never worked. The owner claimed (when we called to inquire) that you could hear the surf from the sleeping porch, but for us anyway, it was barely audible. There's A/C window units, and you will need them - the house gets warm, even with the central fan running. We liked the owners, a young family who live right next door - but after we returned home, it took 6 weeks and repeated contact to get our security deposit refunded. The owner apologized and offered to let us stay in future without a deposit, so perhaps this was a one-time slipup, but FYI.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the four star review! In order to strive for the five star review, I have made some comments regarding your unenthusiastic caveats: 1. The house is one block or two hundred feet from the ocean. Because of that, you do have peekaboo views of the water as it is described on the listing. If the house had unobstructed views of the stunning seashore, it would be $500 more per week. 2. One can absolutely hear the ocean that is 200 feet from the house although you will not be able to hear it when the AC is on and the windows are closed unless it is stormy. 3. I have since changed our security deposit policy. I have two children under the age of five and I am expecting our third child in short order. I was remiss in my paperwork this summer due to an extensive work and travel schedule and did not return securities within ten days of departure. No returning client will have to remit a security and all new clients will have a choice between renter's insurance or submitting a security.
