Cute as a button, 1 bedroom Carriage House garage apartment on 5 acre Chilmark property. Close to beaches in a lovely country setting. Furnished in country cottage style with a mixture of old and new furnishings. This rental provides a great home base to explore all the Vineyard has to offer. We are located in the middle of the Island in a rural setting. This is an ideal location to reach all towns on the Vineyard with ease, yet be living away from the traffic areas. The apartment has a new queen bed, TV, wifi, fully equipped kitchen and a dining area. There is an outside deck with grill and outside shower. Beach chairs,umbrella and cooler are provided. Your lease enables you to acquire a parking sticker for Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket beach. Linens and towels are included. Non-smoking, pets accepted with approval - weekly rentals only from July 1 to Sept. 2 nd. Prospective renters would require an auto to enjoy the Vineyard from this property. Please check ferry availability prior to booking.

About Richard E. Steves

I live in the main house on the property which was built 8 years ago. I work as the Assistant Harbormaster during the summer in the village of Menemsha - a beautiful little working seaport. I was the owner of the Menemsha Inn for 20 years before selling in 2000 and retiring.

You can not find a better place!!

This is the best hidden GEM on the island. The property is just gorgeous, if you are looking for peace and quiet this is your place. The apartment is spotless!! Everything is new and clean and it looks much larger then 750sq. The owner Richard is the definition of a perfect gentleman. He has been in the hospitality business for 20 years and he passes it right on to make sure your stay is perfect!, When he would leave early in the morning he would do everything possible to avoid waking us up at 630 am. Staying above his garage in consideration he would leave his car in the driveway to avoid and noise. His dog Tucker is the most gentle and lovable dog. I rarely ever write a review and I hope I'm not giving it away for next year but if you have a chance to stay here you will have no regrets. Everything you are looking for is in the beautiful carrage house.

The Find of the Vineyard!

This adorable carriage house is truly the find of the Vineyard! On very short notice, we were so lucky that Richard had availability. We are two single women. The one queen bed here has the most amazing mattress! I've slept the world over and never had a bed so comfortable. We brought a blowup bed for a second...there is PLENTY of space for privacy for two friends. Well designed, spotless, well equipped. Come and go as you please. Richard is the perfect host (and has a fascinating life story.) Peaceful, gorgeous, wooded surroundings. Richard is a gifted gardener. Do not miss playing ball with Tucker, the Golden Retriever, the friendliest dog alive. Consider yourself lucky if you land here.

Wonderful hideaway

My boyfriend and I were on the island for a wedding and couldn't have found a better place. Rick's property was clean, well appointed, and surprisingly spacious for an above garage apartment. Rick and his adorable golden retriever Tucker were wonderful hosts. We enjoyed exploring rural beauty of nearby Menemsha, Chilmark, Aquinnah, and the Allen Sheep Farm where the wedding took place. That being said, it was an easy drive to any other major town on the island. We felt like we hit the jackpot for value for a two person stay and highly recommend this property.

Peaceful, Perfect Chilmark Rental for two!!!!

Just realized almost 5 months later after we rented this wonderful apartment we forgot to write a review of this incredibly beautiful rental. This apartment above the garage is soooooo much better than it sounds. The owner Richard was kind enough to let us bring our cat. The apartment is spacious, bright and sunny and more than enough space for 2 adults! So much privacy and peacefulness. The owner's house is right next door on the property but he's really not home that much and if he is, he doesn't bother you - very laid back. He has a very friendly, sweet golden retriever and I enjoyed spending time playing with him almost every day we were there. It's very reasonably priced for what you get if you're on a tight budget. It's up on the second floor above the owner's 3 car garage so it would be difficult for someone who has limited mobility, in a wheelchair or elderly as you have to walk up 1 flight of stairs to get to apartment. We definitely plan on returning in the future!

Wonderful hideaway

We spent 10 days at this lovely carriage house. It was as clean and bright as it could be, we had everything we needed, outdoor shower, deck, grill, privacy. The location was perfect, central to everything including great restaurants, farmers market, art shows, general store, bike paths and the beach. 20 minutes to Vineyard Haven, Edgartown & Oak Bluffs. Richard, our host was most gracious and was extremely helpful with all our questions about the area. We highly recommend this rental for your getaway for 2.

Fabulous Rental Property!!!

I could not have asked for a better place to stay in Martha's Vineyard. Lovely, clean, modern. Private & quiet. Sits on 5 acres of serene beauty. Good idea to have a car. I was able to spend my days doing what I wanted and then return to this very lovely environment. The pics don't do it justice. Rick Steves was great to interact with. I will tell friends about this.
