About Linda & Bob Jarrell

The Great Escape Vacation Rentals is a small family business. We own and manage our own property to give our guests the very best experience all around. We appreciate your support and look forward to making your vacation unforgettable.

Linda & Bob Jarrell purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Linda & Bob Jarrell chose Shenandoah Valley

We have traveled extensively and selected this property for its charm, location and offerings. We felt like this is a cabin that we'd enjoy staying at - and we kept that in mind throughout the process of preparing it for your stay! We want you to have a great time, be comfortable and feel well taken care of.

This cabin is the quintessential mountain home featuring cedar log siding and an amazingly peaceful, beautiful location. Built in 2009, the interior is stylish and current with decor that mirrors the season.

Located near everything, yet secluded, peaceful away from the crowds.

What makes this cabin unique

We own and manage our own property to give our guests the best experience possible. No hidden fees.

Walk to the national forest, trout fishing, historical Civil War trails. Conveniently located near many Shenandoah Valley attractions, but away from the crowds tucked into a quiet, established residential neighborhood.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The cabin is located literally two doors down from the George Washington National Forrest.

Bring your fishing gear and catch trout at Cub Run. It is located in the middle of everything you want to see. Minutes from Luray, Shenandoah, and Elkton. The cabin has an enclosed back yard that allows us to bring our schnauzers along.

Go fishing, take a canoe trip on the Shenandoah river, shop the many farmer's stores for fresh meat and vegetables, dine at the many local eateries, shop the local stores, and truly enjoy yourself. Grab some lamb sausage and cook them on the grill on the back deck while seeing every star in the sky that you can't see from the city living. Thanks Bob and Linda for creating memories for our family that we will always cherish.

A cabin that lives up to its 5 star rating.

  • 5 of 5

We selected 'The Great Escape' based on the 5 star reviews we read on the 'HomeAway' website and were not disappointed.

The cabin is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and was immaculately clean.

We thoroughly enjoyed returning to the cabin at the end of each day of sightseeing. We can recommend the 'Skyline Drive' through Shenandoah National Park and also 'Monticello' (an 1.5 hour drive each way, so an early start is advisable)

We enjoyed coffee on the porch in the morning and iced tea on the deck in the afternoon.

Should we ever return to the area again we would certainly try to book the 'The Great Escape' again.

Gorgeous cabin close to Shenandoah National Park

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay! The cabin was perfect. It was close to Shenandoah National Park (30 minutes from the entrance). We hiked every day and enjoyed grilling on the deck and relaxing in the hot tub in the evening. Everything was perfect. We realized on our last day that we could walk to the George Washington National Forest as well. I would definitely stay here again! I don't think we could have had a better place to stay. I love that Linda was so accommodating for our pets as well. They LOVED the big backyard.

My only complaint would be that the neighbor had a pool party the first night and kept us up with loud music. But I would still give this place 5 stars, it just meant I was very tired my first day.

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry that the neighbor had a pool party during your stay with us. This has never happened before, and had we known we could have spoken with the neighbor and got it corrected (we have good relationships with all of the neighborhood). I had just removed 12 thirty foot trees that died between the cabin and the neighbors pool, we planted new trees for privacy but they'll take a little while to mature to provide a sound/site screen. This cabin provides our livelihood and so I take great pride and care to make our cabin perfect for all of our guests. I work very hard for our close to 100 five star reviews. This was really out of my control, the cabin is usually very quiet and relaxing. I wish you would of let us know before leaving instead of not mentioning it at all until your review. Thanks Bob

Lovely cabin, very clean and has all the necessities you need for a relaxing stay.

  • 4 of 5

Bob and Linda were very accommodating and responded quickly to any questions we had. The cabin was very clean and comfortable with luxurious linens and towels. The kitchen was very well stocked and the little touches were much appreciated (i.e. Basket of dog supplies, hot tub towels). They provided a binder with many suggested activities in the area which helped us to plan our week. Our young children and lab had lots of fun in the fenced, large yard.

I rated 4/5 only because we would have preferred more privacy from neighbors; the homes were somewhat close together. But this is no fault of the owners, just a personal preference. Overall, we enjoyed our time away! Thank you.

Wonderful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed the quiet, peaceful time we had at "The Great Escape". The cabin was well kept and clean. It was in a quiet neighborhood and close enough to all the attractions, stores and restaurants that you needed. Even though we are pretty local, we needed the get away and this was definitely the place to be. The owners were very accomodating and helpful as well. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
