Guestbook comments from the manager

We came here for vacation from the east coast and we were absolutely blown away! We have never stayed in such a pristine location and the price was within our budget! Management was friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to cater to us including bringing us extra beach towels. We cannot wait to come back again next year and have already booked our stay.

Fantastic Condo

  • 5 of 5

This condo was a superb find. The owner and agency is very responsive, the location is great, and I felt that all details were excellent. They even left us a gift on the table to enjoy our stay that was very much appreciated. It was wonderful to enjoy breakfast from the deck as we watch the waves crash on the beach. You will not be disappointed in this place!

Amazing location and view; NOT kid-friendly; Light on the basics

  • 4 of 5

We (family of four with two young, energetic boys) stayed here for eight nights and had a good time, but we probably wouldn't stay in this exact unit again (primarily because of the first "con" bullet below). We would consider staying on a ground-floor unit and would recommend this unit to a couple with no or grown kids with a few caveats.

Pros:

- The view was amazing. We couldn't pry ourselves away from the balcony. This is the first place I've stayed in where the actual view is better than any of the pictures.

- The proximity to the beach and running/bike path simply couldn't be matched. Every single morning we'd go out on the path for a walk/run, and the stairs down to the beach (albeit across Shoreline Dr.) were very convenient.

- Overall, the unit was clean when we arrived.

- The beds and linens were very comfortable.

- The unit itself had a lot of space.

- There were plenty of towels even considering how much time we spent on the path and at the beach.

Cons:

- The walls and floors are not well insulated and as a result, everyone could hear us and vice versa. With two, young, energetic boys (ages 5 and 2), this resulted in numerous noise complaints (including at 5pm on a Friday afternoon after having not been there 30 minutes). We then had to restructure our entire schedule to keep the family out of the unit as much as possible. This led to a lot of anxiety. Conversely, our boys had trouble sleeping because neighbors were simply talking next door. THIS IS NOT A KID-FRIENDLY PROPERTY.

- Beyond this major issue, there were a number of minor annoyances that I simply didn't expect we would have had to have dealt with:

1. There were a number of electrical problems - the overhead kitchen light would randomly turn on and off every few minutes, the bathroom vanity lights would turn on and off at random times, some of the electrical outlets didn't work, there was no light over the stove (so we couldn't keep the overhead light off).

2. The iron didn't work (it turned on, but the heating coils were burned out).

3. The hand soap had not been refilled for our arrival, so there wasn't enough for our stay.

4. There weren't enough paper towels for our stay.

Neutral:

- The décor is eclectic - one corner is '80's-themed, another is industrial, and half of the living room is castle-themed. This didn't bother us at all, but it was a bit of a mish-mash.

Beautiful condo, very well stocked

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this condo. Kitchen was very well-stocked, there were lots of towels in the bathrooms, and the living room and master had great view. A few glitches learning to use the stove, a page of instructions would be helpful. Also, we were never able to access free live TV (just Netflix) but we kept busy enough that it was not an issue. We walked to the Shoreline Grill twice, it was great to eat on the beach while the kids played. We played several games of Scrabble, that was a nice bonus.

The "Luxury" is the view and the price

  • 4 of 5

It's okay to charge hundreds extra for a killer view, which this unit has, and we might even do it again (if the owner lets us after this review). We don't need luxury, but we do hope for truth in advertising. This condo is not luxurious by any other standard. We have rented 12 different homes in Santa Barbara over the years, and others were much better appointed.

Here are some suggestions for making the unit more comfortable:

1. We rent homes because we like to cook, not eat out much, which was challenging in this unit. A wider selection of glass-, dish- and cookware. We went to the Goodwill in town and bought a few items, which would be easy to do. Smaller cereal bowls, an array of drinking glasses, smaller wine glasses, a couple of more sizes of pots to cook in would do the trick. Ice trays in the freezer would also help--fortunately, we bought some ice in our cooler, otherwise we'd have had to buy a bag or buy ice trays.

2. A little more in the way of pantry items, which we've almost always found in all of the rentals we go to: cooking and olive oil, sugar, etc.

2. A bit more in the linens department, including dish towels, some cloth napkins, an extra blanket for the main bedroom for those staying in the winter.

3. Black-out curtains behind the decorative curtains for the bedroom would be nice--the sun on the water is powerful (and low in the winter).

3. Taking out the little kitchen table and chairs and putting in something with a counter surface to cook on and shelves to store appliances would increase the utility of the kitchen, which has no true preparation area. Since we can't imagine anyone sitting at that little table in the dark, rather than using the dining room table with the view, this would be a good swap.

4. More explanations in the unit's booklet: The electric cook-top is not at all intuitive. Fortunately, we were able to find a similar model's booklet online to determine how to start it. Perhaps a list of inventory, as many places do (in part to reduce theft), would help people know what they can find if they look long enough. The heating system: we found the two wall thermostats, but are not sure if they relate to heating devices or not, given the two little space heaters and lack of change in the temperature when we turned them up. Just a word about "don't bother, they don't work" or "please leave them at current setting so that the unit doesn't get too hot (which doesn't seem to be th

For wedding guests used to nice time-shares

  • 5 of 5

My aunt, uncle, their son, and daughter-in-law were coming to town from Pennsylvania. It was the only (but now I can say first) visit my uncle has made, and I wanted the experience to be special for them. They had used very nice time-shares for a lot of their out-of-town travel, so I didn't want to go the hotel route. This lived up to their standards, and they loved the view. I am also very happy to report that when I visited, the place looked exactly like the photos. For me, the person doing the logistics, everything went smoothly and easily. I would definitely rent this unit again for out-of-town guests!

Brand new furnishings, bamboo floors and flat screen televisions in living room.

What you should know:

Laundry is inside the apartment.
