About Rose & Gregg Dykstra

We moved to this beautiful lakeside community known as Beachwood-Bluffton and fell in love with all of the water views and opportunities for family visits with so much to do with children and grandchildren and friends. Visitors have commented that they were unaware that these beach areas existed, and ...they are some of the best beaches they've ever seen...anywhere.

Pere Marquette has been mentioned as one of the top beaches in the United States (National Geographic). Kruse Park is a BLUE WAVE AWARD winning beach. Love the bike trails, the submarine (USS SILVERSIDES), the proximity of the playgrounds and the quality of the restaurants...several local restaurants, that are not part of a chain. Unique dining experiences. If you love American History, the Muskegon area is rich in historical homes and history...we are still discovering all the facets to the city.

Rose & Gregg Dykstra purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Rose & Gregg Dykstra chose Muskegon

This property was such a beautiful cottage opportunity, that we knew it would be something we would appreciate staying in. It is so close to the playground, boardwalks, lighthouses, beaches, the channel and the submarine. The restaurant Docker's Fish House has had rave reviews by boaters and beach-goers and is a favorite of ours. A new restaurant opened up on the beach (Called 'The Deck') and is the perfect place to watch the gorgeous West Michigan sunsets, or buy an ice cream.

The history in the area is well-worth exploring as you learn that Muskegon was once a dominant city in the nation with the lumber baron era. The historical section of downtown Muskegon is loaded with history and beautiful architecture.

The area is so relaxing and will provide many great family and friend memories for your vacation.

What makes this cottage unique

So many outdoor activities near the water, beautiful sunsets over Lake Michigan AND sunrises over Muskegon Lake. Love to have family and friends visit and bike the trails, walk the beach or board walks to any or all of the 3 lighthouses. This is a hidden gem and not as busy as some of the larger beach towns. These are incredible beaches and the City of Muskegon does an amazing job maintaining and grooming the beaches and parks.

Great access to miles of scenic bike trails and very close to a walking/biking trail (approx 2+ mile trail) of board-walk by the beach, wooded dune trail...all paved.

By the channel, there are 3 lighthouses to walk to or view. An amazing walking area.

Maps of the bike trails are in the cottage or online.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved staying at your house. It's got great access to the beach, walking trails, and we particularly liked great barbeque on W. Sherman.

Amazing stay- can't wait for next year!

  • 5 of 5

Clean, well stocked kitchen, linens and towels. Cozy and comfortable. Spacious and large bedrooms. It was so close to the beach! We spent most of our beach time at Kruse Beach, but drove to Pere Marquette and Muskegon Lake. All spectacular beaches! Loved walking the board walk every night and saw some incredible sunsets by the shore and lighthouses. The bike trails are some of the best we have had at a beach cottage.

The kids visited the playground every day and the submarine tour was a hit. Would highly recommend this cottage for families. Owner was prompt in answering our questions. We will be booking our stay here again next year.

Clean, convenient location, close to beach!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend stay at this little beach cottage, it was perfect for two families with small children! We enjoyed that there was a lot of room in the living/dining area that we could all relax and hang out together and plenty of sleeping areas. There was also plenty of linens and other necessities. It's always a concern whether places we stay will be child proof with a young toddler but this cottage was a great place for small kids and we didn't have to worry about a thing. The location was awesome, walking distance to the beach and multiple playgrounds. Thank you for the beach toys, the kids (and adults) really loved having them available to use! My only complaint is that we didn't stay a few more days :)

Owner's Response: Hi John I am glad we talked. The beach park is a 2 minute walk away from this location. I will try to make the several beach options, that are family friendly more visible on a map in the cottage. I am happy that you enjoyed your stay! Rose

Great, Clean, Roomy

  • 4 of 5

This house was great and the owner's were also very helpful in the whole process. We had stayed at one of their other properties last year and I would rate this one better as a home overall. The location was not the best but you could walk a little over a mile to the beach or a short drive with very easy parking. This house was great and we would stay here again!

Convenient,clean,perfect for our needs

  • 5 of 5

I rented this cottage to share with our son's family and it was perfectly suited to the needs of four adults and two children. The location was ideal for frequent beach and boat outings, dining, shopping, visiting local family. WIll definitely keep this one on file for the future.

Just what we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of adult friends, and the house worked out great. Good location, clean, simple. Nice fireplace. It was exceptionally cold, so we did not take advantage of the nice big backyard.

Quiet family-friendly cottage, clean and well-maintained. Located on a developed sand dune/quiet neighborhood. Large yard with fenced and gated back-yard. Cozy, spacious home for a family retreat or friend get-together.

Winter sledding park (with stairs) and playground, just down the street in Beachwood Park. Muskegon State Park has a luge run and other activities for winter enthusiasts. Several playgrounds nearby.

Check out the Pure Michigan site for places to go within a short driving distance.

The beach (Kruse Park)and playground is a very short walk. Beach Dune cottage is a one minute drive to Pere Marquette Beach. Both sugar sand, award-winning beaches. Great walking for any season.

There is no view of the Lake, but you can hear the boats(Spring and Summer) on Lake Michigan from inside the cottage.

An outdoor seating area (with grill), give another area to rest and relax. Cool lake breezes make summer very enjoyable by the lake and taking in a sunset walk along the beach or the boardwalk/piers to see Western Michigan's spectacular sunsets.

Hi speed internet, Wifi, and cable TV are available. Cottage has central air and heating to keep the cottage a comfortable temperature for you.

Children's playgrounds are located at Kruse Park, Beachwood Park and Pere Marquette and Lighthouse Park.

If you have a boat, there is a boat launch at Harbour Towne Marina (for a fee) and the public boat launch on Lakeshore approximately 1 mile away.

For those guests seeking a pet-free/smoke free environment, this will meet your needs. An unforgettable time together!
