You won't have to pitch the tent and set up all the equipment. You'll just have to enjoy the peaceful setting by the creek and take advantage of the onsite hiking. Some trails lead to lovely streams, while others lead to beautiful mountain views, and still others lead into the pisgah national forest. About Beth Vonnegut

We moved up from the heat of Florida to enjoy the cool freshness of the Appalachian Mountains.

Beth Vonnegut purchased this lodge in 2001

Why Beth Vonnegut chose North Carolina

We fell in love with the property because it is secluded, yet only about 10 minutes from downtown blowing rock.

What makes this lodge unique

The property is located on approximately 22 acres. Renters have the ability to also rent two nearby cabins. You can look at the cabins and their availability by checking #194090 and #112607 on homeaway. Great for family reunions, weddings, business groups, and scout groups.

Awesome, but recommend 4WD

  • 4 of 5

A couple setbacks had to be overcome staying there but this is a really cool place and overall, we had fun. We thought from the listing there would be a queen/full bed only, but turned out the tent has 4 sets of bunk beds (8 total twins). We'd luckily brought enough blankets to use as bottom sheets since we didn't have the right sizes packed. It was surprisingly cold in May, so do pack a lot of blankets and sleeping bags or possibly a propane heater for the tent. Our minivan had a good deal of trouble getting out of the place. The road is gravel and very steep. I suggest having 4WD. We almost called a tow...took us 30 minutes to get out the day we left because the van kept slipping on gravel in one segment of the road. Overall, it was a fun stay and the owners are very nice. Great hiking trails and our 3 kids loved the creek. We'll come back if we get a 4WD vehicle!

Owner's Response: We're glad you enjoyed your stay and want to thank you for your review. We are continually making improvements and have had quite a bit of road work completed since your stay. Our neighbors mistakenly put gravel on the road instead of crush and run. I have all wheel drive and actually did a bit of sliding myself. We have contacted our neighbors and explained the need to put the proper medium on the road. We will be supplying a propane heater in case the temperature drops, as is common in the mountains.

This property was fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This was just what we were looking for. A nice getaway in the mountains with our girls. There was plenty of room for all 5 of us and we were able to bring our two dogs. The sleeping arrangements were good enough for the kids to decide and not fight for the top bunk, and hubby and I were able to relax and enjoy the fresh mountain air and the beautiful night skies. Plenty to cook with and room for fun. The property also has a nice creek running though, and we were able to take a hike around the water areas and go exploring. We cant wait to go back.

Peaceful - Quiet - Nature without the hassle

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to visit the mountains in North Carolina for our anniversary. The primary purpose of the trip was to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. Honestly, with all of the beauty of the mountains, we did not want to stay at a typical hotel location. As a result, we opted to visit Ms. Beth’s Glamping site to maintain that connected feeling “to God’s creation and nature.”

Our visit was in November so it was quite cold. The daytime temperature was about 50 degrees while the night dropped to about 30 degrees. The site offers a small propane heater and the owner provided 2 full new propane tanks (I think she learned from a prior review). We also read that review and we decided 2 down comforters and a wool comforter would be needed rather than a heater. Our choice made for excellent sleeping with the cold mountain air and the cozy feeling under the blankets. The canvas also kept the wind off which is very important in the mountains.

The stars were amazing. We live in a larger city so we do not have the stars in the sky at night due to the light from the city. I would highly recommend just looking up at the sky. The leaves were off the trees so we had the pleasure of an unobstructed view of a gorgeous night sky.

I also brought a small propane torch for quick fire starting. We made a small fire using the wood provided by the owner (stacked near fire pit) in the morning and watched the sun rise. It is beautiful because the stream is right near the fire pit. Also, the stream provides that background (white noise) at night which improved our sleeping conditions (like having the ocean in the background). We just cuddled near the fire pit with a blanket wrapped around us sitting on a rustic wooden bench as the sun came up enjoying the chill of the morning. Perfectly romantic – the wife was very pleased.

We did not utilize the rather large pavilion area. It had a gas grill, a kitchen sink and more. It looked nice and had we decided to stay longer and invited some friends, I think it would have been a very nice location to just sit back and relax.

Overall, our experience was excellent. The owner, Ms. Beth, is that salt of the earth kind of person. The mountains were inviting. I would highly recommend to someone who wants to be close to nature, but does not want to have to pack the tent and the extra gear in preparation for an hour or more hike.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to meet you both! With the hustle and bustle of every day living, it is so nice to "fall off the grid" from time to time. That is exactly what we intended with Creekside. So glad you were able to get close to nature and enjoy your time with each other. ( I believe you both probably leave everyone you come in contact with a little better than before!) Best regards and hope to see you again. Beth and Bob Vonnegut

Peaceful getaway!

  • 4 of 5

This was our second time staying at the campsite. We love it!!! It's down in a beautiful valley and you can't see anyone around you. You really feel like you're in the middle of nowhere! It's perfect for getting away from the city life. They have a great layout there. The firepit is awesome and we built several fires during our stay. I also love the outdoor kitchen pavilion. It's perfect for fixing things and storing some of our stuff. The tent is great and with our sleeping bags we stayed pretty warm. They provide a small propane heater, but you don't want that on while sleeping! Just turn it on to knock the chill off as you get ready for bed then turn it off. Make sure you bring some propane tanks for this heater. They were empty when we got there. Glad we had bought some just in case! If you're here in mid-October like we were, be ready for a cold wake up! Although I must say, waking up in the morning is my favorite part here. There's nothing quite like the crisp mountain air, all the sweet birds chirping around you, and the sun streaming in through the trees. Pure heaven. The creek running through the property is fantastic! We love hearing it as we fall asleep or sit next to the fire. We also went exploring down it and had a blast! Now one thing to be aware of is accessibility could be an issue if you're hauling too much weight. It's a pretty steep, gravel road to get down there. We had 4 adults and lots of luggage in our Honda Odyssey. Going down was fine, but at the end of our stay coming back up we had to take trips and unload it at the top of the road. It was so worth it though! Was quite the fun adventure. We highly recommend this place! Bob and Beth are very nice and great to work with. You won't regret staying here!!!

Amazing place close to downtown but totally away!

  • 5 of 5

The place was beautiful! Great set up- had plenty of room to not want to leave and go somewhere else. Fire pit, bath house, and the tent was cozy and safe! Definitely going back to this place. So close to downtown too if you want to go walk around, but it feels like you are far from everything! For us that was perfect. The host was great, informative, nice and very pleasant to work with.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed the glampsite! We also love the peaceful and secluded feeling there, but with the ability to hop into town at a moment's notice. Thank you for leaving everything so nicely and just give us a shout when you're back in the area. Fall and spring are really our favorite times there.

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

We had so much fun at this property! Everything was seculded and made us feel like we were the only ones around for miles! There was plenty of exploring to do on site, and a fire pit to hang out by after dark. We wish we could have stayed longer!
