About Lorie Wiebrecht

I was born in Bar Harbor and my entire family lives or works only 5 minutes from our rental homes. My husband was born in Wisconsin and he fell in love with MDI the first time I took him there in 1996. He knew even before I did that we MUST have our own property there so that we would always have an excuse to go north whenever we could!

Mt. Desert Island is such a beautiful place - we both are so thankful that we can experience it many times a year and I must say that we are struck by the beauty and the solitude every time we go 'home.'

We hope that you truly have a wonderful time whether it is your first experience or you have been visiting for 20 years.

My Dad's motto is...'If you come to Maine once it won't be your last time.' Of course he is pretty bias on the subject - having lived in Bar Harbor all his life! I wish everyone could get one of his Island tours-they are awesome to say the least!

He started working as a chauffeur at age 15 and he can tell some stories. He and my Mom owned several restaurants and motels and even developed the largest campground on the Island, Bar Harbor Campground which my youngest brother now manages.

Seems like our family has been in the hospitality trade forever and...with all that experience we have certainly learned how to take good care of our guests!

Lorie Wiebrecht purchased this house in 2007

Layout is perfect for parents of young children!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the birches. It was comfortable, clean, and charming.

The layout of the house is great for parents with young children. Our kids (8 and 5) stayed in the back bedroom which is far enough away from the living room where the adults can chat after the kids go to bed.

Lorie, the host is super accommodating and made things easy. The house had everything we needed and everything was stored so it was easy to find! This was our first time renting a home and we think we were spoiled with such a great experience- it will be hard to top!

Owner's Response: Wow! These guests just left this morning and I already have a very sweet review! I love to hear that our vacation rental enhanced the family's experience! And it is especially satisfying when this is the first time that they have tried the vacation rental alternative and THEY LOVED IT!! I try to stock our rentals (we have 3 now!) so that a family of any makeup has what they might need and enjoy. Great books, good TVs and strong Wi-Fi plus a well-stocked kitchen and plenty of nice linens for the adults AND games, puzzles, books and toys for the kids! It is fun to anticipate the needs of my guests and to add those things to the home even before they know that they might need them! If you would like to discuss a reservation in one of our rentals please call/email or text Lorie. Happy Vacationing!

Amazingly clean, well-appointed cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect -- very *clean*, comfortable, and with many amenities! I literally took pictures of the inside of one of the kitchen drawers for my mom, who is the most tidy, prepared person in the world. It was like my mom stocked this place. This was our first trip away without the kids and the cottage was a great, comfortable home base for us. It was easy to get to the park and town, and very close (about a mile) to Mainly Meat bbq co-located with the Atlantic Brewery. Lorie was very responsive and helpful when securing the rental. We had a wonderful stay! Hope to be back with the kids another time!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for a great review! It makes me laugh that this guest took pictures of a drawer! :-) I bet that it was the "junk" drawer! I have a VERY NICE multi-sectioned 2-level tray with most of the office supplies that you would have at home plus small tools, note pads, glue, double-sided tape, matches and flashlights. I once had someone call me and ask jokingly if I really thought that they would need Wite-Out while on vacation?? Well...I said...maybe you will make a mistake on a postcard! They laughed and said...maybe so! You never know what you might need so I try to think of all those things for you. It is a fun challenge for me and when someone says that I forgot something...that is the next thing that I add!! I have had guests ask for new toasters, new mattresses, new clocks, new games, more beach toys and this summer I bought a new toaster oven for one of my repeat guests. Whatever you want I try to make to happen~ Please feel free to contact me so that I can help YOU plan a magical Maine vacation. Thank you! Lorie

Owner's Response: Thank you so much! It was a great experience for the guests and interacting with them was a great experience for me, too!! We do try to stock as much as possible in each house. AND...we also have 2 other rentals where we can get other items if guests need more of something! This week we had several children at one house and they definitely wanted to spend a lot of time playing at the beach. There is one house that has a wonderful collection of beach toys and I had those moved to their house! We have a wonderful collection of children's books and games in each house. We have bath toys and stuffed animals for the little ones and tons of games/puzzles for all ages. This summer someone asked for a chess set which I did not have so I purchased one and had it ready for them when they arrived. I am the VACATION CONCIERGE! It is really fun to give my guests what they want! Please give me a call anytime so that we can talk about the vacation experience that you would like to have. THANK YOU!

Owner's Response: Thank you!!! I enjoyed talking with these guests as well! I was born in Bar Harbor so I could help them find what they were looking for and give them tips on places that I had visited myself. Also...the guest books are full of great recommendations. Guests can tell you how many whales they saw that week on the whale watching trip or how the kayak rental company made their day so special. There are so many things to do in the area. If you are a lover of nature...this is your dream come true. You can explore all day, take in the sunset on Cadillac in the evening and come home and eat your lobsters on the picnic table after you pick them up from the corner lobster shack. We have many brochures available for you and guests leave new ones from their recent adventures all the time. Please give me a call and we can discuss a great vacation spot for you and your family! Thank you.

Comfortable & Clean on Beautiful MDI

  • 5 of 5

This wonderful cottage was the perfect place for my family of four to stay on our vacation to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It was exactly as described in the listing and was immaculately clean and very well maintained. The house is on the northern and quiet part of MDI but still very close to everything; it takes 15 minutes to get into the heart of Acadia NP or to downtown Bar Harbor. The house, especially the kitchen, is very well stocked with everything that you could need. Lorie has really thought of everything! Lorie also made sure to check in before and during our stay to make sure that we were ok, which is a very nice touch. The beds are comfortable and the nights were cool and quiet when were there in mid July. My family of four (two parents and two teenage daughters) loved this cottage and enjoyed the rest it provided to us at the end of a busy day of hiking in the park. It allowed us all plenty of room to spread out and be comfortable. There are a number of good lobster shacks within 5 minutes (go to C-Ray's!) and Atlantic Brewing/Mainley Meats is about 3 minutes away. We can't wait to go back and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Owner's Response: Another Happy Vacationer! That is our goal! Every season we try to improve all of our rentals with new items, more attention to detail and the best service that we can provide. Now that communication is so easy with our cell phones I have noticed especially this summer that many of our guests are reaching out right when they arrive. They mostly say..."we're here and we love it!" First impressions are so important and if you are delighted when you first arrive then you are likely to be "completely in love" by the end of your stay! What could be better than time spent with nature, eating great seafood and local produce, enjoying your friends and family and then returning to base camp where you can enjoy the solitude and regenerate in preparation for the next big day of exploring? Just remember what my Dad always said..."If you've never been to Maine you should go...if you have been there already...you'll be back!" We would love to have you stay with us whether it is your first time or you have been coming for 20 years! Thank you~

Could not have been better!

  • 5 of 5

This home away from home had everything we needed and more! The cottage is decorated beautifully, clean as can be and we look forward to staying there again. The seclusion and the short distance from the park and Bar Harbor is about as perfect as can be for a vacation that gives you space and peace while being close to the "action". We were provided some great travel tips from our owner and the previous guests in the comments written in the guest book which was much appreciated since this was our first trip to Maine.

You cannot go wrong with this property!
