Located above Kailua Kona, on the slopes of Hualalai, this unique 1200 sq foot cottage
is just the place to enjoy your Big Island adventure.
Conveniently located just minutes from Kona Airport, Costco, and Kailua Kona Town, you won't miss a beat. Great activities, beaches and dining located just 5 - 6 miles away.
Cool elevation and lush foliage surround you in this peaceful
3 acre property. It is not unusual that the temperature is 15 degrees cooler than Kailua Kona. During the cooler season , enjoy the warmth of your own electric fireplace with a simple click of the remote.
Nature lovers will enjoy the abundant variety of plants and birds that surround the area. Mornings greet you with clean crisp air that is not affected by the VOG that sometimes is seen in town.
Kona has a great open market that offers a variety of exotic fresh fruits and vegetables, and traditional ones as well, that are grown locally, and at a fraction of the price found in the grocery stores.
For our friends with limited mobility, the single level cottage is perfect. Park in front of your front door and enter the cottage. No parking lots or parking fees.
The cottage design is simple and open. A king sized bed and a queen sized bed will provide lots of room for a couple or a family. Keywords: Guest House/ Cottage, 1200 sq feet, Cool, Mountain Location
I had meant to write to you guys after we left the big island but time
got away from me... just wanted to say how happy we are to have met
you two and what a wonderful time we had at the cottage! Thank you so
much for your hospitality and for hanging with us! Hope to see you
I had never been to Hawaii. I wanted an organic, non- commercial experience. Libby & Peter are the perfect hosts for that. They have been in Hawaii a long time & "know the ropes".
There are a lot of unexpected bonus features about this IMMACUALTE cottage:
It was about 15-20 degrees cooler in the cottage than the rest of the island. For example, I went to Habuna Beach which was 88 degrees of pristine perfection. I was not overly hot. The ocean breeze and amenities were outstanding. When I drove home, the temperature gauge on the rental car went from 88 to 67. It was cool, refreshing and lovely. There is no air conditioner. I was concerned about that but you truly did not need one. The bed was comfy and I slept like a baby. As to the chickens and frogs. Yes, you can hear them but people pay a fortune for those tapes to be lulled to sleep at night. I was enchanted. The rooster jaunted up to me Day One - I said nervously, "Are you & me gonna have an issue?" He cocked his head and swagged away. Lol No aggression. Just checking out his territory. The landscape, which was completely crafted by Peter from scratch, honors nature, increases privacy but what a beautiful experience to watch the animals and be at peace at night. It felt like a remote private retreat but you were 3-5 mins from Walmart and reality. It truly is accessible to everything. Fully stocked kitchen utensils & pots / pans, shampoo / conditioner, hair dryer, beach supplies (cooler, towels, boogie boards, chairs, etc... All things you would have to rent elsewhere.), Coffee Pot & bag of coffee, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, etc...
Peter & Libby will greet you warmly & be there for you 1000% but never, ever disturb you. I asked a lot of questions about living there. They gave real life answers and even offered for me to call them with more. Wonderful people. The true spirit of Ohona.
I took the Gypsy Tour driving on my own and it was wonderful. The Big Island is the best kept secret. You will never be hugged by more strangers. You never see another drive that offers ocean, mountain and agriculture views simultaneously. Imagine wisteria & orange blossoms fighting for territory with the richness of volcanic soil. Everywhere. I always knew God was a talented painter but apparently, Hawaii is where he went Michelangelo on earth.
The best of both worlds, really. I highly recommend it to anyone. I hope to be back soon.
This cottage was perfect for our stay. There were four of us and everything worked out perfectly. There was coffee and candy to greet us and the owners made us feel right at home. Everything was clean and nice. We had everything that we needed for cooking and relaxing. I would highly suggest this rental!
Nicely private cottage, although the owners Pete and Libby are a quick walk away (and are quick to come when you need something). It's spacious and roomy, extremely clean and well-equipped. Since we use a clothes line at home, we didn't mind doing so here, and our shirts dried really fast. As other reviews have said, it's located well up in the hills over Kona, about a 10 to 15-minute drive once you know the way, which was fine with us. To find it at night, you have to follow the directions carefully and look for their No Trespassing sign. If you don't want to be squeezed in with other tourists, this is the spot.
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was very generous for the 2 of us, with each of us having our own bed. We enjoyed the snorkeling gear, beach mats, umbrella, chairs, etc. The house had all the amenities we could want. Just be sure to turn a hard right when you enter the property, even though the sign says no trespassing! Very delightful stay. Wish we could have stayed longer.
The cottage and property were absolutely wonderful. The unit is fully equipped with boogey boards, snorkeling gear, beach chairs, cooler, toiletries, etc. All you need are the groceries. The area is well treed acreages, only minutes to town, beaches and airport, but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. The internet and TV worked very well. Libby and Peter were very friendly--great hosts. We came in on a late flight, so I used Google Earth to scout the route before we left home. Libby's directions were spot on, but the entrance off the street is obscured by trees and a little hard to pick out in the dark. We loved not having to look for a parking spot or climb stairs. We came "home" early a few days to enjoy the yard and refreshing cooler temperatures. Stayed 2 weeks. We highly recommend this unit and hope to return soon.

We have stayed here many times, as we live on island. This cottage is simply extremely comfortable, with everything provided.
And it's close to the best beaches, and Costco, and Kona, an ideal location for a beach vacation.
It is accurately described and photographed ... it is immaculate and well-maintained ... the hosts, Peter and Libby, are great people, very nice ...
We highly recommend it!
