I stayed here in the fall (mid October 2016) and I must say the property was just as gorgeous as the pictures! The living room and kitchen are a bit smaller but sooo wonderful and cozy with a nice fireplace. Kitchen is fully stocked for whatever you need, with an impressive collection of skillets. There are not one but TWO gas firepit seating areas. The one area on the front porch was great for morning coffee, and just a few feet away from a working hot tub. There is also a lovely seating area out back, right next to the grilling area and horseshoe sets. Inside, there was plenty of space for 10 adults if you needed it! The upstairs is one big open room with 2 fulls (or queens?) and two twins. Probably better for kids to stay up there but worked for some adults in our group. Nice master bedroom with a BEAUTIFUL, modern bathroom and laundry space!
I only gave it 3 stars, however, because of a few things: one, there were several mice running through the house throughout our stay. They were harmless, but still it's a bit unsettling to see. This meant there was a lot of tiny "pellets" around the house... on couches, in bedsheets, on the floor--eesh, not what you want to see on a relaxing vacation. It made the first night of sleeping a little hard. We aso avoided the downstairs bedroom because it seemed to have more pellets. That was a bummer because we could've used that as a gathering place/game room but we couldn't. I spoke with the owner about this (called him after we saw the 2nd mouse) and he said it's just part of living so close to the woods. Oh well.
Another strange thing was that we found two little acorns or some sort of nut inside EACH of the twin bed sheets, just under the pillows. It was so weird, almost like it was a tradition to put them there or previous children of guests snuck them there? We got a laugh out of it, but it was odd (and again, made us question what other critters might be burrowing their nuts around us as we slept. Ha!).
Also, it would have been nice to have some of the pine needles/brush cleared from the lawn before our arrival. I know it was fall and things literally FALL from the trees, but we had to brush/clear the outdoor space ourselves before using it. Then we happily played our various outdoor games on the lawn sections which was a ton of fun!
Overall, pretty decent experience. Would travel back in the summer to use the outdoor areas, assuming someone comes in before to clear the mice and their pellets. :)
I loved this cabin and the description and pictures that I viewed from your rental site was right on. We had the best time!! The only thing that was disappointing was that I should have booked an extra day!!!!
Beautiful cabin & perfect location - close to the ski resort and resturants!
We shared this cabin with another couple and our four children (ages 12-17), and it was perfect. The cabin is well supplied and clean. The grounds are fantastic - our kids were out exploring for hours at a time. There is a fantastic sledding area just a few doors down from the property. It's located close enough to the slopes and town, but far enough away that you don't feel the crowds. The owner is very responsive and pleasant to work with. We would definitely rent this again.
Very quiet and peaceful. The property is very clean and well thought out. The grounds are very inviting and well maintained. Thank you for making this unique property available. I highly recommend it. I will visit again...
The layout of the yard is awesome and would be perfect for a bbq or family get together. The property could have been cleaned prior to our arrival especially the outside sitting areas. But the steam/spa shower made up for it. That was a treat and something renters should be made aware of. I already have plans on installing one at our Colorado home. The owner/manager did a great job in communicating check in/out and the finer points of the property. I would definitely recommend the property to others. The only restaurant we tried was the North Shore Cafe which was pretty good. Will be back again to Big Bear when the La Quinta temp hits 118 again:)
