A Lovely Vacation Villa in a Fantastic Location!
Our family rented Casa Sueño for a week, just after Christmas and a few days beyond New Years. We had a lot of questions since we had never visited the DR before. The property managers, Zoe, Toni and Ben were incredibly helpful both prior to our arrival and especially during our stay. We cannot say enough good things about the fantastic service they offered us!! As we were unable to rent a car at the Santo Domingo airport and in the town of Las Terrenas due it being a busy time of year, Zoe, arranged for us to have a driver who escorted us everywhere we wanted to go! Our driver, Robinson, was professional, reliable and a total delight! It took away the stress of navigating and driving the (somewhat) notorious DR roads. The house itself, not only met, but exceeded our expectations. It was even nicer than the photos. It is very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a beach vacation. The open living space around the pool is beautiful, the kitchen is well equipped and every bedroom (including the casita) has its own bathroom. Casa Sueño is situated in a safe and gated community called Los Nomadas and is a very short and easy walk to the gorgeous beach of Playa Coson. This beach is considered one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world and indeed it is! Within a very short walk on the beach is Hotel Coson Bay, which offers a great bar and restaurant featuring brick oven pizza and fresh seafood as well as a lovely pool and beach chairs. A further walk down the beach you will find Luis's famous beach restaurant where you select your fish, lobster or shrimp from a cooler and they will grill or fry it for you along with generous side dishes. Delicious!! They also have great piña coladas served in pineapples. One day (with our driver) we ventured to the town of Puerto Plata to explore the waterfalls and zip lining. It was a wonderful adventure and a good balance to the many relaxing days we had enjoying the beach and pool. Since it was about 3-3-1/2 hours away, it gave us an opportunity to see more of the beautiful Dominican countryside. We also visited Fisherman's Village in Las Terrenas where there are many shops and beachside restaurants and bars.
If you're looking for a lovely yet interesting vacation that is not typically touristy, this home and its location in Las Terrenas, Samana peninsula in the Dominican Republic will not disappoint!! Our family will forever cherish our memory of this beautiful and unique island paradise!
Recipe for a great vacation
After a short, delightful drive from the Sammana airport our family arrived to this place that was breathtakingly beautiful. The pictures do not do this villa justice and it has to be experienced to believe that a non resort holiday can be as relaxing and enjoyable. Even the baby slept well in the crib provided. Affordable quality groceries were easily obtained and meal preparation was easy and pleasant with the large pass through from the kitchen to the dining patio. Aside from a little exploring and an enjoyable lunch in Las Terrenas our week was spent relaxing under the impressive thatched roof interspersed with comfortable sleeps, shell collecting and swimming while strolling endlessly along the beach or heading for great oceanside eating at the Italian restaurant Costa las Ballenas at Playa Bonita and Coson Resort in the other direction. There was one other memorable meal to mention which was prepared for us right at the villa by a local Dominican chef named Louis. We purchased the fish and ingredients in town and he prepared a remarkable buffet spread and did the dishes as well! We highly recommend booking Louis for a meal or two.
Amazing girls weekend!
Can't say enough about how perfect this house was for our long week! Comfortable, relaxing, beautiful outdoor seating/dining area & pool. 5 minute walk to the pristine beach with clear, calm, blue water. Main house has 3 bdrms & 3 baths + kitchen. VERY comfortable. Zoe (property mgr) was timely, responsive, helpful .... Less than 10 minute drive into Las Terrrenas. Highly recommended!
Excellent stay - will be returning
Stayed at this villa for 1 week in February 2016 and can say that it is one of the finest rental properties I have ever stayed at. From arrival until the moment we left we were in paradise. If you are looking for the amenities of an American-style hotel with the intimacy of your own private accommodations, this is the spot for you. The villa itself is beautifully appointed with modern appliances. There is no better way to begin the morning than by brewing a fresh pot of local “Santo Domingo” brand coffee and relaxing by the infinity pool. The pictures on the website simply do not do justice to the sense of relaxation and contentment you will feel. The guest lodge is a great touch, with its own bedroom and private restroom.
Getting into the beautiful seaside town of Las Terrenas by car or scooter was a breeze (the impressive “Super Pola” grocery offers a wide selection of fresh food, drink, etc, similar to what you’d find in North America) and, when we didn’t feel like cooking at home, a brand-new 5-star boutique hotel & restaurant was just steps away along the beach (I should add that the views are the most breathtaking I have ever seen, having travelled extensively in the region including to Cuba, Bahamas, Florida Keys, etc).
We will almost certainly return to the Dominican Republic, and when we do, we’ll be staying at this villa again.
My Favourite Place
I go to #53 Los Nomados on what is becoming a yearly basis, having gone two years in a row since 2013. Every year I find it more inviting and beautiful! The garden and decor are in fantastic taste and show you what the rugged jungle can be transformed into! The pool is a quintessential part of my Dominican vacation, for excersise and of course cooling off.
I wake up have a coffe, dive into the Infinity pool then dry off with a short walk to the beach (and I mean short! One minute flat!) just in time to get soaked all over again in the rolling waves on the white sandy beach. This place has everything you need and is the perfect distance away from town that's it's never too far or too close.
The Gated Community inside Los Nomados is very friendly and I've met some interesting neighbours both years. Everything about Los Nomados is perfect when I'm there and when I'm remembering it.
Take me back!
There is so much to see and do in the Las Terrenas area that it will be hard to find time to relax and enjoy the sheer comfort of this charming family villa. The famous cascades of El Limon are a must do for families and is a fascinating tour on horseback (with guides) culminating with the opportunity to dive into the clear fresh waters from the waterfalls. We recommend you do this with Santi's restaurant in El Limon who will give you a fabulous Dominican lunch when you return. Go in the morning and plan for about 4-5 hours in total. Mid January to Mid March we have the amazing humpback whales in the Samana bay and we recommend that you do this tour with Kim Beddal the Internationally acclaimed expert on these whales as her insight into their background and history is just fascinating. Most have been named by her team and it is a true must do if you are here at the right time! Another highly recommended trip is to do the Route De Cafe which is best taken as a 4 by 4 tour with 2 people to a quad. This takes you inland to coffee and sugar plantations as well as a rubber factory. combined with lunch on a beach a delightful day out. Los Haites National Park is another great excursion and of course a trip to Cayo Levantado (Bacardi Island) is another must do. Apart from all of this there are great diving, snorkelling, kite surfing and surfing beaches all within a few miles of Las Terrenas. You can take your PADI certification here. Santo Domingo the capital city deserves time if you are city lovers and has a huge amount to see we recommend you stay in the Zona Colonial to experience the old city and walk within its old walls. For the more adventurous just hire a car and explore the Samana peninsula, where there are still unspoilt beaches (some need a fisherman to take you there). Playa Rincon is breathtaking and worth the drive. Totally unspoiled and breathtaking drive to the right as far as you can go and enjoy.......
