Wonderful peaceful place to stay away from the touristy Smoky Mountain National Park and Ashville, but close enough for an easy dinner in Ashville or day trip to the park. Beautiful hikes just outside your door. Private hot tub and fire pit within steps of the house. The house was full of character. Very clean. We have stayed with VRBO across the country and I loved the old charm this house provided. I would recommend bringing some bigger towels as the hot tub and shower towels are rather small and it was chilly getting out at night in the fall.

Warm and pleasant

  • 4 of 5

This little cottage was conveniently located to town and trails. It was quiet and comfortable. We had a wonderful time and met great people. Melanie was very helpful and the cottage itself had everything we needed for our three day getaway. We definitely enjoyed our stay and will be back for sure.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed walking to town from the cottage. Unfortunately, the entire town of Hot Springs had a 15 hours power outage while we were there and the hot tub temperature did not recover until Sunday morning when we left, so we were only able to use it for a brief period Friday evening. The owner was great and called to check on us during the outage. We spent most of the day Saturday playing around in the river. Would love to return when there are no power outages!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your understanding about the power outage, a rare event, so sorry it occurred during your visit. Unfortunately, power puts the hot in hot tub. Glad you and your girls enjoyed the old fashioned time around the campfire that evening! Return soon.

Little Cottage with Hot Springs Charm

  • 5 of 5

Spent the weekend in this little cottage which is in the town of Hot Springs with husband and teenage daughter as our place to stay while enjoying the Mother Earth News Fair. The kitchen is stocked with the essentials that we used to make dinner Friday night... Pot, frying pan, broiler pan. Enjoyed the clawfoot bathtub for a soak on Saturday night... The handles are a bit loose but work fine. The big couch was a cozy place for all three of us to pile up on ... It's low to the ground for you tall people but short folk like me appreciate it. The front bedroom is the larger bed with twin and the second bedroom has a double with access to bathroom. The hot tub was great... Especially when we figured out that when the cover goes back, you can possibly unplug the spa :-/ just watch to make sure you don't unplug it lol. We had a great time and love Hot Springs! Thanks Melanie for the last minute booking!

Owner's Response: You are welcome! Thanks for enjoying all the amenities Trailside has to offer. Most folks appreciate the hot tub and full kitchen, for the option to just stay put and enjoy! Isn't it great just to walk out your back door to the hot tub and fire ring? Thanks for letting me know about the hot tub plug, we will check into that issue. Thanks for choosing Trailside Cottage and return soon!

Just what we were looking for

  • 4 of 5

Hot Springs is an amazing community tucked away in the mountains. The Appalachian Trail runs down the sidewalk past a couple shops that sell wonderful crafts and basic amenities. It's simple. It's quaint. It's rustic. It's wonderful. Much like the town, this small home is simple, rustic and wonderful. All the basic amenities are provided, with the lovely addition of a hot tub.

In warmer weather, we typically camp out in Hot Springs. For this trip we needed a bit more shelter (since we were going to have a couple babies with us, we desired more conveniences). The space was precisely what we expected for the price. Thanks for the chance to get away from it all and have the comforts of a house.

Thanks for letting pets come along!

This is a clean and quite adequate house for a visit to Hot Springs. You can walk to the town and this is a reasonable rate for the amenities offered. Be warned that it is close to the road and has no fence so you will need to mind the fur babies well. We put our own little barrier up at the front porch steps and they were fine then sitting out there with us. Enjoyed the fire pit in the side yard one evening and got in the hot tub once also. The kitchen is not heavily stocked with cookware so don't plan on doing your gourmet cooking here but it was fine for what we made. There's a Dollar General nearby and we just went down and got a few of the usual items that tend to go missing at rental houses and left them there, which we see as no big deal. This isn't a new house, so expect the usual small issues of cracked linoleum and such. I hate to see people complain about those things when they really don't impact your stay! The screen door latch was missing- I went to the hardware store, got a new one and put it on. For us, I didn't want the dogs to be able to push open the door. (People who expect luxury and perfection need to be selecting rated hotels or very high dollar rentals!) Though I didn't meet her, Melanie is an excellent communicator and available if you need her. The beds were comfy and the cable tv worked fine, giving mother-in-law plenty of things to watch. We enjoyed the little dining table and nearby front porch space very much. Thanks very much, Melanie!
