This lovely duplex is located in Westmount, Montreal's most elegant neighborhood, close to downtown. At the end of the road you will find wonderful food shops, trendy boutiques and great restaurants. Bus and metro transportation is minutes away. Nearby is Westmount Park, a superb library and a fabulous YMCA. A little further afield is the colorful Atwater Market and the Lachine Canal recreation path and the centre of town is a short direct bus or metro ride away.
My building is a restored Victorian duplex with two large apartments and a cozy basement efficiency apt with a private entrance from the side of the house. The apartments have rooms that are generous in size with high ceilings and hardwood floors and the area is very quiet and great for sleeping.
Apt 320 Grosvenor is on the second floor, is about 1500 square feet and has three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The living room opens to a dining area that can seat 8. There is a back balcony with a BBQ and table for four and the kitchen can seat five at the counter island. The bedrooms are separate from each other and the sofa in the living room opens to a queen bed. There are two full bathrooms off the center hall.
The ground floor apt at 318 Grosvenor has a very elegant feeling and an unusual layout. It may be rented with one, two or three bedroom suites, depending on your needs. It has the ground floor of 1500 square feet that has a living room whose sofa opens to a queen bed and a large adjoining dining room to seat eight. There is a small bathroom with shower off the front hall. The kitchen is octagonal and a living area of its own with an expandable dining table seating 6 and a sofa. There is a private back garden and patio area that is accessed off the study. The study has a sofa that opens to a double bed as well as a TV. The master suite is at the back of the ground floor and is very large with a queen bed, seating area, two closets and a lovely en suite bathroom.
Depending on the amount of space needed, there are two more large suites in the basement. Suite 2 is in the front of the basement. It is about 500 square feet and has a large room with a double bed and a single day bed. There is a large desk area and this can open up directly to the basement efficiency apt in the back part of the basement if a third bedroom suite is needed. If not, this suite would use the bathroom at the top of the stairs in the front of the ground floor.
The third suite is the lock off efficiency apartment at the back of the basement. It can open up to suite 2 or be locked off. It has about 650 square feet of space with a living area with an efficiency kitchen and an adjoining sleeping area with a queen bed. There is a full bathroom and entrance vestibule. The private entrance is from the side of the house.
I have been living in Montreal since I graduated from the Universityof Western Ontario. I was fascinated by the city as a little girl and there was no question that it was the place for me to make my way in life. I made my career in Montreal's fashion industry and now that I am retired, I split my time between Montreal and my second home in Stowe Vermont. I have the best of both worlds..an exciting, sophisticated, international city with out of this world restaurants and a delightful country retreat with all sorts of athletic outdoorsy things to do. Do come and visit either of my favourite places and see what I am so in love with. You can see my Stowe property as # 248825 on Homeaway's site.
Virginia Huber purchased this townhome in 1974
MY grand father was an architect in England and I think the love of houses, especially those with old bones, is in my blood. I bought this house when I was young and foolish, but in fact it was the smartest thing I could ever have done. It was a forced savings program for me and instead of buying more shoes and handbags, I paid my mortgage and now this wonderful house is paying me back.
The very special thing about this house is that it is in the most charming neighbourhood. Westmount is rather exclusive, but where I live on a street just off Sherbrooke St, there is a real village feeling with everything you could possibly need within walking distance. It is an old district, so the trees are mature and there is a quiet elegance in the Victorian architecture.
My husband and I treated our two grown children along with their spouses to a 4 day getaway. Virginia's 318 place was more than we hoped for. The main floor had a master bedroom with ensuite along with another full bath. The lower unit had a bedroom and sofa area plus another seperate suite with kitchen, bedroom, full bath, and private seperate entry.
The main floor had an spacious eat in kitchen, large dining room, and ample seating in the living room. We also enjoyed the outdoor grill area with table and chairs.
Not knowing the area we all agreed this was a perfect location. We were only 2 blocks away from groceries, liquor stores, great restaurants, and only about a five minute walk to the metro/bixi bike stations.
We were looking for an affordable central location for our family of 7 to stay as we had some family functions to attend in Montreal. Luckily we found this cozy duplex in Westmount which is very close to Montreal downtown core, walking distance to grocery store, liquor store, many restaurants, park, subway and bus service. The owner, Victoria, was very accommodating and made sure we had whatever we needed. The apartment is located on a very quiet street and was spacious, clean and well equipped with linens, appliances, dishes, cleaning products etc... As our families are scattered throughout the suburbs in Montreal, this location was ideal as it was only a 20 minute drive to each house that we were visiting. We would highly recommend this place.
My family spent a great 5 days at this house! Virginia was fantastic! The location is really nice. Quiet family neighborhood but with restaurants near by. The bus stop to take you in Centre Ville is a block away.
The house is great! Really nice! All the comforts of home. I wish we stayed longer to enjoy the house more, but Montreal calls you out of the house!
We stayed for 5 nights in this wonderful brownstone in the Westmount neighborhood and highly recommend it. The neighborhood itself is easily walkable with a nice bistro, great shopping, a grocery store, a wine store and terrific ice cream all within 5 minutes! Virginia was available and helpful when needed without every being intrusive. We would stay again!
My wife and I and our two adult children spent four nights in Virginia's apartment and found it to be quite satisfactory - three bedrooms accommodated us with no problems at all. We're from Dallas, and the area around the apartment in Westmount was very unique to us, and very charming. There is plenty of room to spread out and the kitchen was well supplied. Based on Virginia's recommendation, we ate at Brasserie Central (good for dinner, looks like they have a great Happy Hour) and picked up baked goods and coffee at La Patisserie Gascogne, both a short walk from the apartment and very good. And there is a grocery store and other interesting shops in the neighborhood for all your needs. Prior to the trip, Virginia was very helpful and timely in answering travel questions. We'd stay again.
We didn't have a car during our stay, relying on public transportation to get around Montreal, our first time in the city - we were pleasantly surprised. The apartment is a block or two from both the bus and metro, with buses running every 10 minutes on weekdays up and down Sherbrooke, a main thoroughfare into town. If you are relying on public transportation, check out multi-day passes (we didn't find out about them until the last day) - daily gets pricey for four people.
Our family with three young boys (13,10,6) stayed for a week in Virginia's apartment this summer. It was one of the best vacation we have ever had! We live in a fairly rural area, so it was a big thrill for the boys to be able to walk to a corner store, the park or the YMCA pool (you can buy a pool pass for $5). The neighborhood felt very safe and we were surrounded by destinations for them to explore - everything from small markets and bakeries on Sherbrooke to Yumi sushi (where we ate three times!) to the bike path. Bring your bikes and you can safely ride a complete circuit around Montreal starting and ending one block away from the apartment.
Overall, this apartment was the perfect home base for our adventures. We had enough room for our family and the kitchen allowed us to cook at home, which cut the cost of our trip. And the location was beautiful. We will come back again!
The property is located in elegant Westmount,Montreal's premier neighborhood. The tree lined street is quiet, yet close to parks, a world class library, shops and restaurants and minutes to downtown Montreal. The Vendome metro is 3 blocks away and the #24 bus is at the end of the road and goes all along Sherbrooke St.
