PLEASE NOTE : This is a TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) dam controlled lake. Levels fall slowly beginning in September and fully rise again in April. The winter lake levels are dependent on rainfall and TVA's whim (See TVA website for current levels). The summer levels stay consistently at their highest, and are easily deep enough for fishing, swimming, and docking a boat. The winter lake level will create a wide, firm, sandy shoreline that's great for long walks, crystal/arrowhead hunting, and fishing.

We love the great outdoors. We enjoy good food and coming together around the large harvest table at the Pioneer. Tara grew up at the cabin with her Appalachian Granny, Fran Stalcup. Granny was known far and wide as Mountain Mama and she knew the mountains like the back of her hand.
Heidi Ladlee: Reservations Manager purchased this cabin in 2004

Thank you for letting us spend our parents 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Pioneer Trading Post. You can feel the history, culture, and warmth that your Granny you and your family have put into the cabin! We shared a lot of time cooking, hanging out on the deck, in the hot tub and down by the dock. There is so much to explore here inside and out! We definitely want to come back! Indianapolis, IN
This is a beautiful property. We loved the old authentic cabin. It has many antique pieces throughout the house that are interesting. We did feel the cabin could have been cleaner. Although it is a very nice cabin, there was thick dust everywhere and it did not appear that any thing had been swept under or behind in a long time. The tub still had hair dried around the drain. A couple pieces of furniture was ready to fall apart and could not be used. The loft could not be used. The stairs were too unsafe for children and it was not big enough for adults. The loft was also extremely hot. Other than these minor problems, we loved it and would definitely return. I love that the owner has old photos and the history of the cabin posted for all to read.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. If you want to get away from everyone this is the best place. There is so much room in this home that you wouldn't even know if someone was out of the bed at the other end of the house. The picture's don't do justice this place is amazing. Hope to see ya again soon.
We 5 girlfriends all used to work together and now live in various places and are raising kids but like to get together once/year. We like to choose a different destination each year, and one of our group found this rental in a travel magazine...it seemed like fate that the cabin was available the one weekend that we all had open to travel this year. We had an amazing time! Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are just precious, and the cabin even more so. The cabin has all the creature comforts of home, plus great views and privacy. I especially loved sleeping out on the comfy bed on the sleeping porch and waking up to the birds and cool air on my face. ;) I think the only thing the cabin could benefit from is a water softener...but otherwise, no complaints whatsoever! Would stay again in a heartbeat. -Caralee
We enjoyed our stay at the Appalachian log cabin in September 2016.
The house was very nice and accommodated our group very nicely.
We had a dinner party one night and there was lots of room outside on the deck and inside at the table for people to enjoy their meal.
We had a couple of issues come up with appliances and the handyman was there that day to fix things!
One issue that we were disappointed with was the level of the water in the lake. After reading a review by another guest who mentioned the water level in the lake was very low , I contacted the reservation manager a month before our vacation to make sure the water level would be OK, and she assured me it would be fine during the month of September. When we arrived we were shocked to see the dock was on the ground and the water level was 30 feet down from normal.......this was VERY DISAPPOINTING since we were looking forward to swimming off the dock and enjoying the water.... the pictures on homeaway website are very deceiving...leading us to believe that we would be able to swim and fish from the house. I think the owner or reservation manager should be a little more upfront about this when advertising the property.
Instead of Christmas gifts last year we planned a family vacation. Six adults and 4 children under 9. We all loved the house and location! It was so peaceful and nice yet close to all main attractions. The house was well stocked and cleaned, plus.the view of the lake was amazing. Our favorite part was chilling in the evenings and eating outside on the back porch. We took the kids to the public beach not to far and really enjoyed. I called one day regarding the need for the trash to be emptied and someone came out that same day and took care of it.
The only recommendation I would have for the owners is to put shades in every room. Not for privacy but to keep the sun out. We would have like to have slept in alittle however it was rise and shine with the sun shining through the windows. It was also hard to put the kids down for a nap with the sun shining in the rooms. I would recommend bringing extra fans too. The one side of the house is extremely warm. It was hot when we went in June. Other then those two things the house was awesome! We made a lot of wonderful memories that we will always look back on. Recommended to a friend that is going next year!
Upon arrival the first thing we discovered was that the locked gate wasn't locked, in fact it was wide open and could not be closed. So just know you do not have to have any codes to enter the property. Walking into to the house our first thought was, this isn't what we were expecting. We didn't realize it would be so old. But in no time we began to fall in love with our surroundings. The property is beautiful, with winding trails around the property, multiple swings tucked in among the trees, stone path to the lake. The cabin was comfortably informal, inviting and cozy, Everywhere we looked there were items of interest to point out to others. Here are a few things we noticed about our stay that I would have wanted to know ahead of time. Everything squeaks, so for people with early risers and folks that like to sleep in, that could be a problem. The loft bedroom is small and has very low ceilings, fine for kids but the stairs up to the loft are unique but hard for smaller kids to maneuver. The lake is beautiful, we spent many hours there and we loved it. There isn't a boat at the property so we rented a boat for the day. A bonus we experienced was our "vacation dog". A lovely hound dog, Dixie, visited us daily and occasionally brought her sidekick Sadie. We feel in love with these dogs. They were good, sweet dogs and we missed them when we left. Pigeon Forge is about 20 minutes away and Gatlinburg about 50 minutes. We visited Gatlinburg for a day and enjoyed lunch at The Pancake Pantry. The best dinner we had was at Fat Tony's. So I hope this helps you decide if you want to rent this cabin or not. We would go back in a minute. P.S. Would have been nice to have a mixer available. Hot tub was wonderful!
