*****A LAKE AND MOUNTAIN VACATION!*****

PLEASE VIEW VIDEO AT BOTTOM OF PAGE UNDER CALENDAR

You have found a spacious and lovingly decorated log cabin on beautiful Douglas Lake. The Pioneer offers the best of both worlds: a lake AND mountain vacation!

Stay at the beautifully appointed Pioneer Trading Post, located just 20 minutes from Dollywood and only 30 minutes from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the Smokey Mountain National Park.

5 BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED BEDROOMS:

Each room has its own special charm and appeal. You will find 100% cotton sheets, feather pillows, authentic hand stitched quilts, and rustic, vintage touches for the feel you only get at Granny’s house.

SCREENED IN SLEEPING PORCH:

There is also a classic, breezy summer screened in sleeping porch with an antique 3/4 bed and sitting area.

YOU'LL HAVE A 4-ACRE PRIVATE PENINSULA TO YOURSELF!

Parents can relax knowing their kids are always within ear-shot on the 4-acre gentle sloping knoll overlooking the lake. Our grassy front and side yard, with swings, rustic log seating, camping platform, and firepit are great for gatherings and games. The wooded pathways, landscaped hillside garden, and long shoreline are fun to explore and enjoy. It's a beautiful haven where you can truly feel away from it all.

PLEASE NOTE : This is a TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) dam controlled lake. Levels fall slowly beginning in September and fully rise again in April. The winter lake levels are dependent on rainfall and TVA's whim (See TVA website for current levels). The summer levels stay consistently at their highest, and are easily deep enough for fishing, swimming, and docking a boat. The winter lake level will create a wide, firm, sandy shoreline that's great for long walks, crystal/arrowhead hunting, and fishing.

About Heidi Ladlee: Reservations Manager

We love the great outdoors. We enjoy good food and coming together around the large harvest table at the Pioneer. Tara grew up at the cabin with her Appalachian Granny, Fran Stalcup. Granny was known far and wide as Mountain Mama and she knew the mountains like the back of her hand.

Heidi Ladlee: Reservations Manager purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Heidi Ladlee: Reservations Manager chose Tennessee

When you rent this property you help keep the spirit of old Appalachia alive.

The Pioneer Trading Post was named after our family store originally located in Gatlinburg. The Hand-hewn cabin was built by early Scot Irish settlers with primitive tools.

The building techniques of the early American settlers has stood the test of time.

Each log is a work of art.

The cabin is going on 200 years old and it will stand another 200 years.

The Pioneer Trading Post is a living museum to a people, their unique way of life and their land.

What makes this cabin unique

Guests get to experience a glimmer of what life might have looked like during the early 1800's, but with all the comforts of modern living.

Guests get the pleasure of staying in a real home that was full of love and music.

You will feel right at home as soon as you walk in the door.

Staying at The Pioneer is having the best of both worlds. You have a lake shore vacation that is within easy driving distance of the mountains and all the action of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

You will have the entire secluded, 4 acre peninsula to yourself with unencumbered views of the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for letting us spend our parents 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Pioneer Trading Post. You can feel the history, culture, and warmth that your Granny you and your family have put into the cabin! We shared a lot of time cooking, hanging out on the deck, in the hot tub and down by the dock. There is so much to explore here inside and out! We definitely want to come back! Indianapolis, IN

The place was nice but...

  • 3 of 5

The reservation manager was awesome, the owners of the place were great and called us one night, the house itself was super nice and beautiful, i wosh they had a picture of the bathrooms, they are so cute!!! I only have 3 complaints, the first is that the water in the master shower was so unpredictable that it would freeze you out and then burn you and there was nothing you could do about it but the other 2 showers were fine. The 2nd problem was the jacuzzi water was beneather where it needed to be and the water was winterized so we couldnt even fill it up to use it but they did call the handyman out there to fix it. And the final thing is we went in November and there was NO water i mean the ground was cracked it had been so long since there was a lake and that was a major disappointment. Overall i would come back if there was a guarentee it would have water in the lake.

A Step Back in Time

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful property. We loved the old authentic cabin. It has many antique pieces throughout the house that are interesting. We did feel the cabin could have been cleaner. Although it is a very nice cabin, there was thick dust everywhere and it did not appear that any thing had been swept under or behind in a long time. The tub still had hair dried around the drain. A couple pieces of furniture was ready to fall apart and could not be used. The loft could not be used. The stairs were too unsafe for children and it was not big enough for adults. The loft was also extremely hot. Other than these minor problems, we loved it and would definitely return. I love that the owner has old photos and the history of the cabin posted for all to read.

Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. If you want to get away from everyone this is the best place. There is so much room in this home that you wouldn't even know if someone was out of the bed at the other end of the house. The picture's don't do justice this place is amazing. Hope to see ya again soon.

Girls' Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We 5 girlfriends all used to work together and now live in various places and are raising kids but like to get together once/year. We like to choose a different destination each year, and one of our group found this rental in a travel magazine...it seemed like fate that the cabin was available the one weekend that we all had open to travel this year. We had an amazing time! Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are just precious, and the cabin even more so. The cabin has all the creature comforts of home, plus great views and privacy. I especially loved sleeping out on the comfy bed on the sleeping porch and waking up to the birds and cool air on my face. ;) I think the only thing the cabin could benefit from is a water softener...but otherwise, no complaints whatsoever! Would stay again in a heartbeat. -Caralee

the property was really pretty

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Appalachian log cabin in September 2016.

The house was very nice and accommodated our group very nicely.

We had a dinner party one night and there was lots of room outside on the deck and inside at the table for people to enjoy their meal.

We had a couple of issues come up with appliances and the handyman was there that day to fix things!

One issue that we were disappointed with was the level of the water in the lake. After reading a review by another guest who mentioned the water level in the lake was very low , I contacted the reservation manager a month before our vacation to make sure the water level would be OK, and she assured me it would be fine during the month of September. When we arrived we were shocked to see the dock was on the ground and the water level was 30 feet down from normal.......this was VERY DISAPPOINTING since we were looking forward to swimming off the dock and enjoying the water.... the pictures on homeaway website are very deceiving...leading us to believe that we would be able to swim and fish from the house. I think the owner or reservation manager should be a little more upfront about this when advertising the property.

The setting of the house was spectacular! Loved the history of the house and outside seating.

  • 5 of 5

Instead of Christmas gifts last year we planned a family vacation. Six adults and 4 children under 9. We all loved the house and location! It was so peaceful and nice yet close to all main attractions. The house was well stocked and cleaned, plus.the view of the lake was amazing. Our favorite part was chilling in the evenings and eating outside on the back porch. We took the kids to the public beach not to far and really enjoyed. I called one day regarding the need for the trash to be emptied and someone came out that same day and took care of it.

The only recommendation I would have for the owners is to put shades in every room. Not for privacy but to keep the sun out. We would have like to have slept in alittle however it was rise and shine with the sun shining through the windows. It was also hard to put the kids down for a nap with the sun shining in the rooms. I would recommend bringing extra fans too. The one side of the house is extremely warm. It was hot when we went in June. Other then those two things the house was awesome! We made a lot of wonderful memories that we will always look back on. Recommended to a friend that is going next year!
