*****A LAKE AND MOUNTAIN VACATION!*****

PLEASE VIEW VIDEO AT BOTTOM OF PAGE UNDER CALENDAR

You have found a spacious and lovingly decorated log cabin on beautiful Douglas Lake. The Pioneer offers the best of both worlds: a lake AND mountain vacation!

Stay at the beautifully appointed Pioneer Trading Post, located just 20 minutes from Dollywood and only 30 minutes from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the Smokey Mountain National Park.

5 BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED BEDROOMS:

Each room has its own special charm and appeal. You will find 100% cotton sheets, feather pillows, authentic hand stitched quilts, and rustic, vintage touches for the feel you only get at Granny’s house.

SCREENED IN SLEEPING PORCH:

There is also a classic, breezy summer screened in sleeping porch with an antique 3/4 bed and sitting area.

YOU'LL HAVE A 4-ACRE PRIVATE PENINSULA TO YOURSELF!

Parents can relax knowing their kids are always within ear-shot on the 4-acre gentle sloping knoll overlooking the lake. Our grassy front and side yard, with swings, rustic log seating, camping platform, and firepit are great for gatherings and games. The wooded pathways, landscaped hillside garden, and long shoreline are fun to explore and enjoy. It's a beautiful haven where you can truly feel away from it all.

PLEASE NOTE : This is a TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) dam controlled lake. Levels fall slowly beginning in September and fully rise again in April. The winter lake levels are dependent on rainfall and TVA's whim (See TVA website for current levels). The summer levels stay consistently at their highest, and are easily deep enough for fishing, swimming, and docking a boat. The winter lake level will create a wide, firm, sandy shoreline that's great for long walks, crystal/arrowhead hunting, and fishing.

About Heidi Ladlee: Reservations Manager

We love the great outdoors. We enjoy good food and coming together around the large harvest table at the Pioneer. Tara grew up at the cabin with her Appalachian Granny, Fran Stalcup. Granny was known far and wide as Mountain Mama and she knew the mountains like the back of her hand.

Heidi Ladlee: Reservations Manager purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Heidi Ladlee: Reservations Manager chose Tennessee

When you rent this property you help keep the spirit of old Appalachia alive.

The Pioneer Trading Post was named after our family store originally located in Gatlinburg. The Hand-hewn cabin was built by early Scot Irish settlers with primitive tools.

The building techniques of the early American settlers has stood the test of time.

Each log is a work of art.

The cabin is going on 200 years old and it will stand another 200 years.

The Pioneer Trading Post is a living museum to a people, their unique way of life and their land.

What makes this cabin unique

Guests get to experience a glimmer of what life might have looked like during the early 1800's, but with all the comforts of modern living.

Guests get the pleasure of staying in a real home that was full of love and music.

You will feel right at home as soon as you walk in the door.

Staying at The Pioneer is having the best of both worlds. You have a lake shore vacation that is within easy driving distance of the mountains and all the action of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

You will have the entire secluded, 4 acre peninsula to yourself with unencumbered views of the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for letting us spend our parents 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Pioneer Trading Post. You can feel the history, culture, and warmth that your Granny you and your family have put into the cabin! We shared a lot of time cooking, hanging out on the deck, in the hot tub and down by the dock. There is so much to explore here inside and out! We definitely want to come back! Indianapolis, IN

Perfect Pioneer Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My family of seven stayed in this perfect Pioneer home for a couple of nights. We loved it. The beds were comfy and the home was large yet cozy. We loved all of the antiques and family pictures. The lake was beautiful with a spacious deck and luxurious hot tub. The home owner was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I would recommend it highly!!!

Great Mix of Old and New in this beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved our recent stay at your cabin. We were two families from Michigan on Spring Break. The cabin met our every need. I loved seeing all the antiques throughout the house which were nicely mixed in with the updated amenities. The spacious kitchen had everything we needed as we cooked every breakfast there in the morning. The back deck area was perfect for barbecuing and spending time enjoying the warm weather. The large table on the deck was perfect for our party of nine to enjoy card games every night. The washer and dryer were a great plus in helping us keep up with towels and laundry through the week. We had a few minor issues (toilet running etc) upon arrival and contacted the reservation manager who was very gracious and the maintenance man came that same night to fix our issues. We also called about the hot tub becoming slimy because the chemicals had run out. We spoke to the owner regarding this and someone was out that night to clean and refill the tub. Fantastic customer service! The location is perfect being super private and yet super close to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We really enjoyed our nightly visits from Dixie the neighbor dog. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone and hope to come vacation here again in the future. Thank you for sharing your family heirloom with us!

What a hidden gem! Girls of '74

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for an out-of-the-way stay that is still convenient to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, THIS IS IT! Nestled on four acres in Sevierville, this historic log cabin has everything. The cabin was immaculately clean and well appointed with all the necessities (and even some luxuries) to make your stay comfortable. Bedrooms are beautiful and feature homemade quilts and plenty of blankets, kitchen is stocked with all the amenities while affording a group room to cook while others can be seated across the counter from work area. Dining can be done inside or outside! Take your camera because you will spend a lot of time taking pictures both inside and out. The historic cabin is lovingly decorated with memorabilia about the cabin itself and its former occupants - it will take you DAYS to soak in all the history. If relaxation is what you need, look no further than one of the porches. We listed to nature and watched fishermen on Douglas Lake while drinking morning coffee. We have stayed many places, but this cabin felt like a home away from home. Our group being lifelong residents of Tennessee and some of us friends since elementary school, this cabin welcomed us - it drew us in, and when we listen closely, we could almost hear our ancestors speaking to us. Kudos to the reservation manager and owner who really, REALLY, want you to enjoy your stay. We would HIGHLY recommend this cabin to others, however, if you have small children please make use of the many gates on the back porch that will deter kids from wandering near the hot tub or off the deck onto the property/trails.

Charming secluded getaway that was truly relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We went to stay at the Pioneer Trading Post for a 5-day vacation with another family and had more than enough room to spread out. We could have had another family and still been comfortable. While the lake was down at this point in the year, there was plenty to keep us entertained, whether it was the hiking trails, hot tub, just relaxing inside in the evenings, etc. The kitchen was very modern and spacious while cooking for 8 and we felt totally relaxed throughout our stay. We really saw no examples of the recent wildfires during our trip, either.

The cabin is spacious and is appointed throughout with antique furnishings, further adding to the rustic charm. The commute from Sevierville to either Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg was not bad at all, either. We made lots of family memories zip lining, horseback riding, playing family games, and hiking at Cade's Cove. The reservation manager and owner were so accommodating to work with as well. I would definitely recommend this authentic cabin and will come back in the very near future.

The place was nice but...

  • 3 of 5

The reservation manager was awesome, the owners of the place were great and called us one night, the house itself was super nice and beautiful, i wosh they had a picture of the bathrooms, they are so cute!!! I only have 3 complaints, the first is that the water in the master shower was so unpredictable that it would freeze you out and then burn you and there was nothing you could do about it but the other 2 showers were fine. The 2nd problem was the jacuzzi water was beneather where it needed to be and the water was winterized so we couldnt even fill it up to use it but they did call the handyman out there to fix it. And the final thing is we went in November and there was NO water i mean the ground was cracked it had been so long since there was a lake and that was a major disappointment. Overall i would come back if there was a guarentee it would have water in the lake.

Owner's Response: Hello Anna, Thank you for your review and we just wanted to let you know that we have since fixed the water problem. Also, we send a lake map which should show when the water levels are low, but you are right, it is low this time of year. Sorry you weren't able to enjoy that. Thanks for bearing with us while we resolved the jacuzzi We hope that you come back to see us in the future! Sincerely, Heidi Reservations Manager
