Tara is a luscious four-pavilion vacation estate located at the end of a secluded private road on the island of Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin islands in the eastern periphery of the Caribbean. Tara is a non-smoking villa, family-friendly, with three lovely closed bedrooms and can host a total of eight guests. The villa’s construction has been executed in the West Indian architectural style and fits perfectly with its tropical island surroundings.
Around and in between Tara’s four pavilions are the estate’s abundant terraces from which the panoramic views of the sea seem to go on forever. The terrace is replete with lounge chairs, not to mention an alfresco dining area with gas grill and a large and inviting private swimming pool with a thatched poolside tiki bar. Tara also comes with a weekly housekeeping service and has modern amenities including a personal computer with Wi-Fi access, satellite TV, DVD player with a large media library, an elite Bose surround system with iPod dock.
Each pavilion on the estate has been designed with soothing pastel colors, quaint knickknacks and cozy furnishings. The living room, dubbed the Great Room, has large cushions on top of overstuffed couches in front the home entertainment system. Outside this Great Room is a wraparound verandah which one can follow into the gourmet kitchen with seating area and gorgeous arched windows looking off into the horizon.
Tara’s three spacious bedrooms are perfect abodes of privacy and ensure visitors get a full night of rest. The master bedroom and secondary bedroom each have a large king size bed, exotic alfresco stone showers, air conditioning and beautiful balconies from which to enjoy the scenic views. The third bedroom has a queen size bed and a shared bathroom with the adjacent office/study, which has a large queen size sofa bed for additional bedding.
Tara is close to Tortola’s most esteemed beaches such as Smugglers Cove and Long Bay, full of fun-seeking wayfarers looking to bask in the sea and sun. Outdoor sports and activities are abound with kite surfing and scuba diving among the most popular choices. Additionally, from Tortola there are many ferries from which one can easily charter a ride to neighboring islands in the vicinity in order to explore the diversity of the cultures and environments within the vast Caribbean.

The villa accommodations were lovely. Lynn, our on the ground host, was very helpful and attentive. The people of Tortola are kind and friendly/ We were happy to be close to Smuggler's Cove where we could snorkel and enjoy Nigel's delicious grilled food and drinks made to order.
Villa Tara was a lovely home located up a steep winding road with spectacular views. The kitchen and common areas were well appointed and the views from every spot were fantastic. The two main bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, and the outdoor showers were amazing! The third bedroom was a bit small and awkward with limited windows. All in all Tara was a nice place to stay however; we wished that we had understood that this specific locale had very limited sunshine at the pool. We enjoy lounging at the pool in the afternoon with pleasant filtered sunshine but by noon time, the sun was gone from that area. While the villa itself was great, and the management staff amazing, we would probably choose a different location next visit. The close proximity to Smuggler's Cove was totally amazing!!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Tara - it had the most perfect location overlooking Smuggler's Cove viewing gorgeous rainbows and boat traffic to Jost Van Dyke. The house was laid out for privacy but had several gathering areas for drinks and visits. The kitchen was very well equipped with great pots and pans and all matter of utensils and dish ware. As we ate most of meals at home we were most appreciative of the wide variety of cookware- in addition when the barbecue did not function properly a new upgraded model was delivered to the premises within twenty-four hours. Lin, the property manager, couldn't be more responsive to any question we might have.
Loved the outdoor showers, well maintained landscaping and island art work throughout the villa. It was the perfect home to enjoy family and friends and still maintain privacy in the various architectural pods. We would highly recommend Tara as your next villa retreat in Tortola.
All good. While some of us would prefer being in Virgin Gorda this made the most sense for us given the age of my parents and our/their ability to get around. Tara was a very well opppointed villa with everything we needed. Lynn Johnston our island host was terrific and very supportive.
We loved our time at Tara on Tortola. It is a beautiful home and we enjoyed it every night with the two other couples. Thank you for helping us arrange our vacation.
We just had a few issues while we were there...
1) Shower in third bedroom not having any hot water so we shared showers.
2) Sauna not working. We were told after we booked the villa that this was not working and we are wondering if we were going to receive a credit regarding this issue.
3) Air conditioner unit...we had to reprogram the remote every time we used it.
4) The oven looked fabulous but we needed the stovetop at the same time and it was too confusing switching over the gas to the oven, so we just grilled the pizza.
5) We flipped the breaker in the fuse box since we assumed this was the reason why the electrical appliances did not work on one side of the kitchen...however the dishwasher still did not work.
Nothing could have ruined our vacation but I just wanted to let you know these issues!
