A lively town known for its cafs, lemon trees, and history, Sorrento has been a must-see destination on grand European tours for generations. Naturally, when the Count de Mario Caracciolo, the last descendant of a prestigious Neapolitan family was seeking the perfect place to call home he chose this villa known as the jewel or il gioiello, of Sorrento.
Purchasing the home in 1970, the count filled the home with his collection of antiques and treasures. Set against a sleek white backdrop, his paintings, vases and sculptures add a historic and personal touch to the otherwise modern home. A lover of all things beautiful, he once said, Having something unique is not a sin but just a nice luxury to be granted!
The 450 square meter (4,845 sq. ft) home is designed over several levels, offering plenty of room for you and your guests. The spacious open plan living room is bathed in natural light, overlooked by a small private study. The sophisticated dining area is furnished with a white stone dining table; more dining areas are available poolside, on the large private terrace.
With five double bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, Villa Il Gioiello comfortably accommodates up to ten guests. An onsite villa manager offers a wealth of local knowledge on Sorrento restaurants and excursions, and three hours of daily maid service are also included.
For those seeking a villa in the heart of Sorrento, its hard to image a more perfect setting than Villa Il Gioiello. The nearest beach is just a one-minute walk away, and a few minutes more will bring you to the nearest restaurants. The nearest train station is within walking distance, providing convenient access to the rest of the Amalfi Coast, while outdoor parking is also available on this gated property.

We had a wonderful time in Sorrento and the villa is close to the town centre. I was expecting a great view of the Sorrento coast from the villa, but this was not realized because the villa is not situated on the sea front, but a short distance behind a large hotel. I acknowledge this was my mistake, but I think when I was booking based on the description I was expecting to see breath-taking views.
The villa description did say it was not good for disabled people and there were many stairs. Both my mother had a fall due to steps on different levels. Having said that the villa is stunning and very spacious.
We did a bit of home cooking as we were a large party, and the kitchen could do with more equipment than it offers. We did ask the owner, and she supplied it, however, I would have expected to find the basic needs there.
The owner, Mena and Laila, the housekeeper, were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one.
Villa II Gioiello met all of our expectations. It was like home away from home. Very clean, spacious and comfortable. The location was perfect in that it was a five to ten minute walk into Towne for the supermarket, restaurants, shopping areas and access to tourist activities. Very safe area to walk into Towne at night. Mena, the Office Manager was an excellent hostess and very helpful with questions and in arranging excursions for us.
We stayed at Villa Il Gioiello as a family in June 2015. This place is centrally located in Sorrento with easy walking to all the major things to see in Sorrento. Sorrento, itself, is centrally located enough that you can, from this location, explore surrounding towns such as Positano or Pompei. The accommodations are perfect. The Villa is well kept and safe. Mena, the owner and curator, provides terrific help and suggestions. If you're headed to Southern Italy... stay here.
This villa was ridiculously spectacular!! Over exceeded my expectations. It was so comfortable. The owner, Mena, was so wonderful in every way!! The maid was wonderful too! The location was perfect to get to train/bus station, town/village and restaurants and the beach.
This trip was a special family celebration, The villa was perfect for us in every way. We enjoyed a short walk to anything and everything. It's proximity to the city was terrific while still being "private" and away from it all. It was very clean and well appointed. Our host, Mena, greeted us upon arrival and was close by if we needed anything. She was delightful and available but never intrusive. This was the most memorable trip that we have ever taken. There were 10 of us, ages 7 months and 25 to 60 years. Bellisimo seems to be an understatement.
