What an wonderful property!
This is truly a special place to be granted the privilege of staying. The house is cozy and comfortable, the grounds and views are stunning, and the hosts are wonderful. We loved it and hope to return some day.
Perfect House in great location
Our first visit to Umbria but will not be our last. This house, the location on a fine vineyard with stunning views across to Orvieto and the warm welcome from Simonetta got our holiday off to a great start. The house is as the pictures - very tastefully furnished, clean and comfortable. Corrado's invitation to the wine tasting the night after our arrival was so kind. A very informative and enjoyable evening. A highlight was regular visits from Umbra the dog and the two cats. The short walk to the excellent pool, via the donkey and horse was lovely and we were blessed to have exclusive use the 10 days we were there. As the weather was so hot it was an excellent facility to have !
Orvieto is a delightful place with much to see and do. Food shopping as well as eating out was easy, with lots of fine produce to choose from. We fitted in a day trip to Rome using the very efficient train service. A great find was Bognaregio just a short drive from the house and a real highlight was a trip to Assisi.
Many thanks to Simonetta for the great accommodation and communication to make our holiday go so well. Whilst on site and available if needed, the house and garden offers privacy to guests.
We spent many evening hours under the pergola playing cards, chatting, eating and drinking good food and Le Velette wine. Many thanks for a great holiday- we would very much recommend the accommodation and location.
Wonderful house with the most amazing view!
We had a wonderful time at il 2. The house is lovely decorated, clean and has all the amenities you need. Simonetta is a very kind and wonderful host and always available for you. Our youngest son enjoyed the company of the cats and we all fell in love with Umbra the dog... We loved the view of Orvieto from the garden!
Wonderful house on a wine estate just a few miles from glorious Orvieto
The little house had everything you could need and has been extremely well thought through. It was hot when we were there but inside was cool and calm with lovely comfortable furnishings. Orvieto is only a few miles away with lots of restaurants and bars and with a supermarket just down the road everything was to hand. Our hosts invited us to a wine event in their vineyard which was excellent and we were able to buy their wine all week. Driving in Italy isn't for the feint hearted and you do need to drive everywhere, the only drawback is that we couldn't find any restaurants close by - however, this is not unusual in Umbria. The swimming pool is glorious and much bigger than you would get with a private villa, it has plenty of shade but you do need to walk a good 10/15 mins through the estate or a quick 3 minute drive. Our hosts were very kind and gracious
Impossible to overstate the drama of this view
This intimate property is perhaps under-sold by VRBO. It is part of large old winery estate and sits on a bluff overlooking the medieval city of Orvieto. The 2-story guest cottage's upstairs kitchen/sitting room opens toward a covered patio draped in jasmine framing an amazing view of the city. We cooked dinner at home (the kitchen is well supplied and there's also a small grill) and ate on this patio before retiring to the lawn chairs to enjoy the region's wine as the sun set over the city. It was a great way to wind down each day after sight-seeing and business. The bedrooms are simple and sufficient. The laundry machine enables you to pack light for your trip if you choose. The estate is home to a donkey, a horse, 2 peacocks, a friendly dog and a few savvy cats - who made quick friends with our young son and routinely checked in to find him. The winery property includes 3+ miles of country lanes, which we walked to reach the shared pool. Orvieto itself is less than 2 miles away and offered plenty of sights - from its Duomo to underground caverns to the best pizza we've ever eaten. The train station and the adjacent AutoStrada make Orvieto a great jump-off point for exploring the rest of Umbria and Southern Tuscany/Northern Lazio. The property owner Simonetta was an gracious hostess and was very accommodating with logistics and advice - they take great care of this family property. The cottage, named Il 2, is billed as a "cozy country house" and it is just that and much more. They say location is everything - and it's hard to put a price on the serenity this cottage's location affords.
Charming guest cottage
We had a wonderful stay at Il 2. We spent about two weeks in Italy at 3 different rentals and this was our favorite by far. It was very easy to reach by rental car from the highway, and Orvieto is small enough we navigated pretty easily. Enjoyed Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoregio and a day trip by train into Rome. But our favorite was the afternoon walking the estate and enjoying the beautiful pool. Our kids loved the winery’s dog, cats, and even peacocks when they were near the cottage. Having two bathrooms was so nice with kids, and a rare treat in Europe! And the hospitality was the best! We hope to return again some day.
