About Mary Jane Cappello

My husband, Chris, started as an organic beef farmer. When he retired from that, he started breeding Belgian draft horses and working the farm for hay and timber. He then started a sawmill, excavation and alternative construction business that exists presently. Chris is active in local government and is on the Boards of many local organizations. I am a retired special needs school teacher who presently works on the farm, volunteers in the community and manages the vacation rental property.

Mary Jane Cappello purchased this house in 1973

Why Mary Jane Cappello chose Virginia

The location of King Mountain House at the back of Horseshoe Hollow Farm offers a very serene, secluded and quiet retreat. However, it is close enough to all of Rappahannock County's villages when activity is desired. The house's design offers an open, spacious bright and comfortable getaway with all modern conveniences. It is equally suitable for couples and/or small groups.

What makes this house unique

The King Mountain House's design makes it a suitable and comfortable getaway for 2-8 It is also a perfect property for small specialty groups such as yogis, equestrians, school/family reunions and hunters.

Wish i owned this home

  • 5 of 5

This exceeded expectations. We had a group of adults with 3 small children ages 1 to 3 - Safe. The house has all you need in terms of kitchen, patio's/decks, BBQ area, and living space. Each of the 3 floors is a nearly self contained bedroom/bathroom/living area. Great private spaces. Plenty of hot water and modern clean baths. Location is secluded but you are close to Front Royal/DC. 1.5 mile sloped driveway is great for runners. The outside fire pit worked great and came stocked/set up for a quick fire. What a place for a fall weekend. Rainy days with a book near one of the two fire places would be very cool - especially after a sauna!

Even Better than it Looks in the Homeaway Ad

  • 5 of 5

We had hoped to get away to Southern France and had to "settle" for the Shenandoah foothills. Little did we know that the house we rented--because of its style, space, view and amenities--would make us feel like we were on a far-away vacation only 90 minutes by car from home. Everything about our 5 days was perfect. There is great hiking and walking in the area as well as wineries, restaurants and antique shops for those so inclined. But the house really topped it all. Each couple had their own level for sleeping and there were multiple living areas--indoors and out-- for relaxing. The kitchen was more than fully equipped. And the views were just spectacular. We can't wait to go back!

Fabulous Mountain Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed at the King Mountain House for a three-night stay. We had a wonderful time. The property is in a very private location, but it is still centrally located in the county and near several excellent restaurants. The house is very spacious - could easily accommodate three couples on the three different levels. It is also immaculately clean and well maintained with a well-appointed kitchen. There is both a deck and a patio with a great overlook of the surrounding area. Chris and Mary Jane were delightful hosts - very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. If you are looking for a nice, quiet getaway in the Shenandoah Valley area, this would be exactly what you're looking for.

Beautiful home, incredible view

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at King Mountain House. The property is very nicely decorated and Chris and Mary Jane were very friendly hosts. The kitchen has every single utensil you can think of. The deck and the veranda are great spots to hang out. The dining and living room are very warm and inviting, and the beds are comfortable. We had a wonderful week there for a staff retreat and I would recommend highly to families, groups of friends, colleagues, etc.

Great house in a great location!

  • 4 of 5

This is a great house with absolutely spectacular views! It was ideally located near Front Royal, Washington, and Sperryville. It was great to come into a home for a weekend getaway and really just need to bring some food and drink! All the paper supplies were stocked, kitchen was stocked with cleaning supplies and all the essentials to throw together meals! Sitting on the deck or on the downstairs patio and taking in the views was fabulously relaxing! The only downside was the daily invasion of stink bugs, ugh! But the men had fun sucking them up with the "Bug Zooka" that came with the house! I have a feeling we will be returning to King Mountain House! Thanks so much for opening your land and home to us!
