About Mary Jane Cappello

My husband, Chris, started as an organic beef farmer. When he retired from that, he started breeding Belgian draft horses and working the farm for hay and timber. He then started a sawmill, excavation and alternative construction business that exists presently. Chris is active in local government and is on the Boards of many local organizations. I am a retired special needs school teacher who presently works on the farm, volunteers in the community and manages the vacation rental property.

Mary Jane Cappello purchased this house in 1973

Why Mary Jane Cappello chose Virginia

It is equally suitable for couples and/or small groups.

What makes this house unique

The King Mountain House's design makes it a suitable and comfortable getaway for 2-8 It is also a perfect property for small specialty groups such as yogis, equestrians, school/family reunions and hunters.

Beautiful and exceptionally well equipped house

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this house! It was filled with beautiful art and books, with lovely sitting areas and rooms to relax in and enjoy the views. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and everything was nicely organized. Many thanks to the owners!

Fantastic outdoor space

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a weekend away with friends at the King Mountain House. Mary Jane was accommodating with our late arrival, and we received some good recommendations for hiking when her husband came by with the rental agreement the next morning. (Little Devil's staircase is a good hike - but note that the first half is a serious climb!)

The outdoor space is what really shines at King Mountain House - sitting around for dinner under the pergola with a gorgeous view is hard to beat. The fire was also also pre-set for us, which was a nice touch.

The kitchen has all the tools and pans you need to cook some delicious meals. The wireless, on the other hand, was not the most consistent (nor fast) connection, so I wouldn't rely on it for much streaming or if you needed to work. As noted elsewhere, only Sprint cell phones get coverage in the area.

All in all, a lovely weekend!

Peaceful, Serene, Spacious, Quiet Mountain Villa

  • 5 of 5

We spent our 2017 Labor Day Weekend here, and it couldn't have gone any better. I live in Newark, DE, which is a small town, but still there is something about the seclusion and being cut-off from everything else that is really nice. This is where you come to unplug.

The hosts/owners were very welcoming and hospitable. Mary is always available if you need anything, and her husband (his name escapes me) was there to greet us when we arrived.

The house is amazing, includes a fireplace, an outdoor fire pit, a steam/sauna, a sun room to read a book or just relax, a landline phone. Everything else is in the pictures. If you can spare 2-3 days, I definitely recommend that you visit King Mountain House.

The only thing missing was a good internet connection. The house does have WiFi but the speeds are poor, especially when there are 7-8 people using it. But to be quite honest, I preferred it this way because it let's you explore other things rather than staying hooked to your device during the entirety of your stay.

Perfect getaway for families and couples.

Wish i owned this home

  • 5 of 5

This exceeded expectations. We had a group of adults with 3 small children ages 1 to 3 - Safe. The house has all you need in terms of kitchen, patio's/decks, BBQ area, and living space. Each of the 3 floors is a nearly self contained bedroom/bathroom/living area. Great private spaces. Plenty of hot water and modern clean baths. Location is secluded but you are close to Front Royal/DC. 1.5 mile sloped driveway is great for runners. The outside fire pit worked great and came stocked/set up for a quick fire. What a place for a fall weekend. Rainy days with a book near one of the two fire places would be very cool - especially after a sauna!

Even Better than it Looks in the Homeaway Ad

  • 5 of 5

We had hoped to get away to Southern France and had to "settle" for the Shenandoah foothills. Little did we know that the house we rented--because of its style, space, view and amenities--would make us feel like we were on a far-away vacation only 90 minutes by car from home. Everything about our 5 days was perfect. There is great hiking and walking in the area as well as wineries, restaurants and antique shops for those so inclined. But the house really topped it all. Each couple had their own level for sleeping and there were multiple living areas--indoors and out-- for relaxing. The kitchen was more than fully equipped. And the views were just spectacular. We can't wait to go back!
