My impression is everything you need in this studio bedroom is comfortable. Eclectic, decorated impressively, enter into a very comfortable place with a nice kitchen. Plenty of towels, supplied. Small patio with hot tub. Loved our stay will definitely return!

Charm and coquis.

  • 4 of 5

This little bungalow is an absolute treasure if you don't mind a bit of funky. As a previous reviewer said, this may not be a good option for elders due to stairs. We are in our late 60's and had a little trouble with interior stairs. I couldn't always be sure of the edge near the bed and one down to the kitchen. It also isn't ideal for tall people. The entrance is about 6' tall, and I could reach the ceiling in the bathroom. I am 5'2". We enjoyed the screen windows a great deal with their breezes and occasional gecko hanging out, but the coquis outside were absolutely deafening. Bring ear plugs. Geckos were gloriously beautiful. They ate some teensy ants that came in. The property is basically a dense banana forest full of tropical plants beautifully placed throughout. Just gorgeous!!!. Consequently, it was excellent habitat for the coquis. One must also be very careful with foods. Reggie provides info on what works. Ants will invade if you leave things out. We are great nature lovers and gardeners, so you can see why we loved it though. There are dozens of roosters a ways off that raise heck in the morning as the coquis quiet down. Again, bring ear plugs. The place was very clean and provided everything we needed. The patio with its hot tub was lovely during the evenings and during the sunny time of day was a good place to dry clothes. We enjoyed Hwy 11 up the hill a couple of blocks for snooping and exploring some old shops, eateries and farmers market. Big Jakes BBQ in Captain Cook is not to be missed. We've never had better. We snorkeled at Capt Cooks Monument and Two Step. If you go early to Two Step, you will be over the moon at the corals and fish. The National Monument there is also very interesting. The other 2 odd things about the place was that we were not welcomed and only saw a man who was doing some yard work 2 times in 5 days. If we had needed anything we could have called Reggie though. She left some good information on the bar which was helpful. Access to the place is down a suburban street which morphs into Reggie's driveway that winds into the jungle. There were a good many dead cars lining the driveway. It gave the place a junky feel, but really, it wasn't a problem of anything except perception. It really was a ton of fun. We stayed at a more conventional bungalow on the east side which was nearly flawless, but this one will stay in our hearts and memories.

Studio loft amongst the trees

  • 2 of 5

The treehouse is a true reflection of its name. It is a small, studio-style, loft resting amongst the trees on a multi-owner property. Location is out of the way of many attractions (close to a few good local eateries), which was a nice escape from the "city" but the countryside had its moments. From the many people living under pitched tents around the property, to the roosters crowing all hours of the night and into early morning, to insect and frogs hissing/croaking after sun down, to the abundant wildlife inside the unit (cockroaches, moths, ants, mosquitos, flies and geckos), to the windows that were covered by a mesh covering - not glass (was detrimental during windy and rainy days - very chilly). Sheets and towels were provided but questionable as to the cleanliness of them. On the upside, unit was overall decent and clean, there was a working (albeit cold) shower, clean refrigerator and operational stove/oven (plus toaster oven). Outdoor patio was clean but don't be afraid of any animals (geckos, cats, mongooses... Just to name a few). We are from Alaska so the presence of nature, in any form, did not bother us. Just was a bit more than we had hoped to deal with while on vacation. Did not use hot tub due to residue and dirt at the bottom. Would recommend this for locals or couples (no more than 3 people) looking for an outdoorsy/exclusive hostel-style experience. Would NOT recommend to anyone looking to have a relaxing or comfortable vacation. Owners provide a binder of brief explanations and stayed completely out of view. Must have rental car to get to property if visiting from out-of-town. Ended up leaving property for a hotel and had a much better (and relaxing) experience.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Fabrette We appreciate your review, and it will help us to clarify the details of The Tree House. Although we have tents around the property, I assure you they're for tool and equipment storage only. We have never had people living in tents on the property. Our workers live on site in permanent structures. We try our best to minimize the critters that are abundant in Hawaii, but they do on occasion find their way into and around the rentals. We advertise The Tree House as an open-air value rental in a country setting. If you are looking for a hotel style rental, the Tree House may not be for you. We are sorry The Tree House wasn't was you expected, and appreciate you taking the time to write a review. Warmest Aloha, Reggie

Beautiful private getaway

  • 5 of 5

The wife and I loved our stay here. Having our own private sunning deck with a hot tub made all our friends who were staying at other places jealous. The plantlife surrounding the place on the hillside made it feel like we were really up in a treehouse. The place is easy to get to and it was nice to be outside of Kailua but still just a short drive away.

Independent vacationing

  • 5 of 5

The Tree House was the perfect spot for our vacationing style. It had everything we nèeded, plus a hot tub and some beach gear! Loved the lush jungle atmosphere and open air feel of the space, but appreciated that there were no bugs or other pests inside. (Lucky the cat came by one day, and we invited him in for a visit. He fit right in.) Reggie was very responsive.

Perfect for Two

  • 5 of 5

My honey and I stayed in the Treehouse rental for 8 nights. The location is perfect, a small jungle on the edge of the main strip excitement. A kitchen set for cooking whatever you want, a day bed for relaxing and a back patio set up with privacy in mind, this was a perfect get away for a couple. This rental was just south of Kona and had everything we needed near by. Ho'okena if a great beginners beach, the Korner pocket was a friendly pool hall/bar within walking distance filled with friendly locals and a great prime rib french dip. This is the rental to get if you are wanting to explore all day and return "home" to the perfect hideaway or even if you want to stay in all day and lounge. The property is beautiful and filled with wildlife, fruit and plenty to explore. Reggie is the wonderful owner who went out of her way to make our stay great. The snorkeling equipment provided worked perfectly, and the body boards were a huge blast in the waves.

Don't hesitate to text Reggie and ask her questions, she is more than willing to answer. (She even delivered fresh fruit).

The wildlife sounds at night are amazing. We are from Oregon and the songs of the frogs and qeckos didn't bother us at all. If anything, it was an amazing sound to fall asleep to. The soaking tub is awesome in the evening, a beer in hand, stars above and frogs chirping, what more could you ask for in that moment.

We plan to return again. If we return with the whole family, we still plan to rent from Reggie and choose one of the houses with multiple bedrooms.

The treehouse rental was perfect and the price was extremely reasonable.
