Birdsong was built in 2009. A modern cottage with just over 1,500 sq.Ft of living space and an additional 500 sq.ft of verandah outdoor living. Situated on a beautifully landscaped property, framed by native trees and flowers - the property attracts local birds of all kinds, hence the name birdsong!
You will enjoy our private 3 bed/2 bath home in a quiet and secluded Bahamian community (4th bed is a sofa bed in the lounge). The local beach is a short 3 minute walk away, and our second community beach is less than 5 minutes away by car. A short 15 minute drive will get you to the world famous Cabbage Beach and Atlantis Resort and Casino. Take the Birdsong snorkels, beach chairs and umbrellas with you.
Enjoy a quick sandwich or a gourmet home cooked meal prepared in our fully equipped and modern kitchen which includes a stainless steel gas range and gas oven, large stainless steel fridge/freezer, microwave oven, dishwasher, garbage disposal and other kitchen must haves!
Our outdoor eating area gets you in a festive Bahamian spirit as it is nestled in the gardens under massive coconut fronds! It's an especially great location to savor your favorite cocktails! Grill your catch of the day or a great steak from the nearby supermarket (less than 1 mile away) on our kettle charcoal grill!
Our master bedroom with ensuite bath has a king bed and features a walk-in closet. Our second bedroom has a queen bed, and our third bedroom has 2 single beds. Rooms 2 and 3 have easy access to a second full bathroom. Our home also boasts a convenient laundry closet with a washer/dryer for your convenience. However, in authentic bahamian style - we also have a clothes line available as no drying source is more efficient than the sun…and we have plenty of sun at birdsong in historic Nassau, Bahamas!
We are a blended family of a native Bahamian boy and a roaming New Zealander girl. Having met more than 13 years ago - we have been married over 10 years and have made a home at Birdsong for our 2 sons. Zealous travelers, we wanted to create a home that was just what a transient family would need to be super comfortable - so we know that you will be comfortable too in our beautiful Bahamian home!
Makia & Charlotte Gibson purchased this cottage in 2010
After a long search, we decided on this property because of its proximity to the beach! Also, we were captivated by its quiet and secluded location - yet it is very accessible!
The gardens are lush - and when all the flowers are in full bloom, the views and colors are resplendent! Not to mention, the fruit trees: coconuts, sea grapes, young mango and avocado trees (not yet blooming).
The place is incredibly beautiful, the manager delightful. The communication between owners and staff was excellent. My family enjoyed their stay and will certainly return to Bird Song on our next visit.
After arriving at Lyndin pindlin air port three hours late on Silver Airways, and retrieving one of our lost baggage. We went to pick up our car reserved online with thrifty... The drive to Bird Song was very easy, no problems. We arrive about 9pm and was greated by Karen and her beautiful grandson. My kids started to play with him immediately as Karen went over the rules and some suggestions to make our stay a great one.
Getting around from Bird Song was so very easy as the main road runs through the City's main attractions. Atlantis is about 10 min away and a 2$ tole to cross the bridge to Paridise island. During our week stay, we used the book available at the house to plan our daily trips. The kids enjoyed the beaches as we visited many... The best being on Paridise Island.. ( directions in the book) . We brought most of our meets and breakfast food in a cooler from the States. (No problems with customs just Extra bakage charge, but worth the cost). Lights in the island goes and comes, we we're unfortunately there for two in 7 days. Not home for one. The house.... Very beautiful, clean, roomy and practical. The Internet and cable and phone worked great, with a day down down time of Wifi and phone... Both fixed ASAP by Karan. For the price and location Birdsong is a great choice for a family on a budget or not. Five stars for sure... Minus.05 for the one day without phone and wifi.
From the moment of first contact, the Gibsons were great! Helpful, attentive, and kind, they quickly gained my trust and confidence. Although we never personally met, they strike me as good people. The caretaker, Karen, is also tops! She was very sweet and extremely helpful upon arrival. Also, the driver they suggest using - Joe W. - is highly recommended. He was reliable, always on time, and charged a very fair rate; to say nothing of his kind personality and helpful information.
The home itself is wonderful! The gardens that surround it are beautiful, making for a great space to lounge, grill, etc. The high hedges offer privacy and the neighborhood is relatively quiet. The interior of the home is well maintained, sporting an excellent kitchen with all the amenities (great kitchenware!) that made cooking fun and clean up easy! The bedrooms are quite comfortable. The common space spacious. The bathrooms fine. The house has A/C units throughout that quickly cooled the house down even on the hottest of days (99 F). And best of all, the house is remarkably clean. We had not a single compliant about the house itself. My brothers and I felt very much at home in the house.
The beaches. The descriptions on the profile page highlight a quick 3-min walk to a nearby beach (SW of the house - turning right on main road), which was a big plus for us. Unfortunately, upon arrival, it was repeatedly recommended that we not spend time at said because it was "off the beaten path." The tone implied it was unsafe. Instead, it was suggested that we head to another beach 15-mins away by foot (NE of the house - turning left on the main road). The beach further away was great - clean, quiet, great neighborhood, a nice walk but, again, 15-mins away. The closer beach we did visit once. We never felt unsafe. However, it was not as clean (trash, broken glass) and a lot more crowded.
The Palm Cay is a gated community down the road (25-min walk). Average food but a very beautiful space. I'd recommend it as a nice lunch out. We also spent a day at comfort suites (paradise island) to get access to Atlantis. After the fact, we discovered that we could have walked onto the beach (25°05'01.8"N 77°18'56.9"W) for free. If you pack a cooler, in theory, you could have a taxi drop you off early and pick you up late. While the room gave us access to the resort, if you're looking to save a few hundred dollars, this is an option.
Overall, a pleasant spot for R&R. I'd stay there again
We traveled to Nassau for a destination wedding. We had never used a VRBO home in the past and thought with six adults that this would be a good time to try it out. We selected the Bird Song house and we were very happy with our accommodations. The size worked perfectly and we particularly enjoyed the gardens spending much of our time out there. While it was not on the beach, it was only a short walk. I have to comment that Karan who helped us with check-in and out was wonderful. She went above and beyond! Thanks for a great place to enjoy our time in the Bahamas.
We stayed at Birdsong in June 2016. What a nice, comfy house! I stayed with my sister and my three children and we had plenty of room.
The beach near the house was nice. It was not busy and we went to the house beach about three times during our stay. The water was warmer at the house beach than anywhere else we swam. There is snorkel equipment at the house, and we did bring along a beach blanket of our own which we were glad to have. My sister picked up one at Kohl's for $15. Have more room in your suitcase for souvenirs by leaving your beach towels at home, as the house has plenty for everyone. It may be more comfortable to have water shoes at the beach. I was fine without them but my kids were glad they had them.
The grocery store was close by and we had rented a car to have the convenience of driving ourselves around. Adding up all the taxi rides we would need, to go to the house from the airport, downtown, to Paradise Island, and back to the airport, it wasn't much more to have a car.
The yard is so beautiful, it was nice to sit outside in the evening and enjoy the birds while we grilled. A very quiet neighborhood and the backyard is private.
We didn't need bug spray at all which was a nice surprise.
If you have small bars of soap, like hotel bars, bring them along for the showers.
Thanks to the Gibson's for opening up their house, they were accommodating hosts and replied back to questions very quickly.
The place was great. Everything in the photos are spot on. We liked the beach around the corner and down the block. Nice quiet without tons of people. We had 5 people and there was plenty of room. We did not get a chance to use the bbq only because we were out a lot. Neighborhood was quiet and the people were friendly. When we come back to the Bahamas and we will, this where we will stay.
PS if you want to tour the island, ask Makia about Joe Wemyss. Best tour I have been on.
Birdsong is located in tranquil Eastern New Providence. Eastern New Providence is known for its well established and family oriented residential communities. Birdsong is located on a quiet street surrounded by established family homes. In less than 5 minutes by car, guests can reach Super Value, the oldest and most popular grocery store chain in The Bahamas. Also located within 5 minutes are fast-food restaurants (Wendy's, Dominos Pizza, Marco's Pizza to name a few) and authentic Bahamian fast-food options too - most notably Bamboo Shack. A very well stocked liquor store only 5 minutes away by car, combined with 2 community beaches, one 5 minutes by foot and the other 3 minutes by car - make our community a convenient option for those looking to get away.
For more excitement and to mingle with throngs of vacationers, the vibrant and historic Downtown Nassau is easily accessible by car. The Straw Market which is located downtown is a fun way to barter for souvenirs. There are also any number of other shopping options available downtown to suit every budget.
The world famous Atlantis Resort and Casino is a must visit as well as a swim at Cabbage Beach - one of the most beautiful and pristine in the world. Both attractions are located on Paradise Island which is a short ride away.
New Providence Island is just 21 miles long by 7 miles wide (at its widest point). Therfefore the whole Island is our community! Nothing is far away - however knowing the best time of day to travel on the roads is critical.
