Why Kim Zarra Wieler chose Bar Harbor

The story begins with Tom & Carrie Witt, from Hamden, CT. Carrie and Tom both fell in love with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on their honeymoon in October 1995. They came back every year and purchased the cottage in 2004. Over the years, when the cottage wasn’t being rented by visitors Carrie and Tom shared their home, love, knowledge, and stories of Acadia with family and friends. It was during one of these visits that Carrie and Tom first introduced friends, Kim & Bill Wieler to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Much time was spent outdoors biking, hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in and around the park, crossing the sand bar at low tide to reach Bar Island to enjoy the fields of lupine on their way to the top to view the harbor or by exploring downtown Bar Harbor and surrounding areas. Kim and Bill have been coming back ever since. Sadly, Tom passed away in 2010 and then Carrie in 2012. Their love for Asygarth Cottage and Acadia never diminished. They both found joy, peace, strength, and endless courage in the quiet trails and majestic vistas of Acadia. Kim and Bill will be forever grateful for their friendship and hospitality and now would like to welcome you to Bar Harbor Cottage.

Guestbook comments from the owner

we explored Acadia, Schoodic Point, shopped, and enjoyed delicious meals at the Black Friar Inn, Galyn's, Geddy's and Jordan's. We created lasting memories during our stay at this charming cottage.

Fantastic location, and very roomy!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying in this home. Clean, roomy, and the location cannot be beat - all that Bar Harbor has to offer is right there - as is Hannaford! Quiet street a half block off Cottage St., a block and a half away from the sand bar to Bar Island. There are two living spaces - the original one in the front of the house as you enter, and a larger addition in the back of the house that has comfy couches, another TV and a Foosball table! A large group would easily be able to spread out here.

Two full bathrooms make getting ready in the morning very convenient. Air conditioning units in every room definitely helped as we rented in the height of the summer. The beds were comfortable!

The sauna was a nice plus. We used it after spending a cloudy morning paddle boarding - and falling into the lake! Warmed us up nicely.

We also enjoyed morning coffee in the enclosed porch, and wine on the balcony in the evenings! So many places to go in this house!

Owners are very nice, too! Highly recommended.

Great location

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful location near grocery shopping, bar island access, and downtown shops/restaurants. Two living rooms areas were great for accommodating different TV watching interests. Net Flicks was accessible via Wii. All bedrooms were upstairs, with slanted ceilings, but the remote controlled ceiling windows made it feel more open. The bed in the master bedroom was foam and exceptionally comfortable. The sauna off the first floor bathroom was a definite plus. While it was cool when we visited in early June, there are AC units in bedrooms and downstairs, which would be great to have in the warmer weather.

It was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay here! The location could not have been more perfect- right across the street from Hannaford, and just a 2 minute walk to all the shops downtown. Kim could not have been more accommodating. She truly had anything you could possibly need stocked in the house. The cottage is comfortable and homey but also spacious enough for our large group. I would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it. Thanks for everything, Kim!!

Wonderful Place in Bar Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this home in Bar Harbor. Excellent location for walking to everything in town....just steps away from the grocery store and just a short walk to historic downtown, Bar Island Trail, restaurants and shops. The home was spacious and comfortable and outfitted with everything you need for the perfect stay. The owner was more than helpful with all of our needs. We spent the week hiking....for the more adventurous hiker....the home is walking distance to many of the trails leading into Acadia!! We would love to stay here again and recommend it highly!!

What a Wonderful Home

  • 5 of 5

Great place to start and end all of your daily trips to Acadia National Park. A 5 minute walk to the Village Green to catch the FREE Island Explorer bus service. Less than 2 minute walk to the only Grocery store in Bar Harbor.

The A/C works great and the bedrooms are very comfortable, with plenty of storage. Kitchen is well-stocked with both cooking supplies and leftover containers.

Really enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning.
