When I was 2 yrs old I jumped off the dock on Waneta Lake and scared my mother to death. It was just the beginning of an adventuresome & exciting life that I was going to experience every summer. I have so many fond memories and valued all the friendships that I developed especially my water skiing buddies. We competed and traveled NY to several competitions and I earned my expert rating in slalom and was offered a job by Cypress Gardens. The lake will always be close to my heart even though I can't be there as much now since living in Florida. Renting it out gives other people the wonderful opportunity that I have so enjoyed and now they can experience also.
Sylvia purchased this cottage in 2003
It was my lifelong dream of owning my own place on the lake and I was fortunate that my family always owned this place and it has been passed down through the generations. My children also have a love for the lake and the best thing this past summer was seeing my 5 yr old grandson getting up on the ski sled that my kids used when they were young.
It is so conveniently located to the many attractions that surround the lake that you will never be bored. You can either just be lazy and float on your raft or jump in the car to go shopping, sightseeing, races at Watkins Glen or just enjoy the beautiful fall leaves on the hillside that surrounds the lake.
So glad that I found this place! The owner is extremely nice and shows that she really wants you to enjoy yourself. The house was very clean which is very important to me. This house is located on a beautiful lake the owner provided everything you need both inside and out, the kayaks and row boat was a nice plus for us. Thanks for a wonderful place for me and my family to stay while visiting Watkins Glen, we will be back!
Waneta Lake was the perfect size lake for our two families. The boat dock right off the back of the property was perfect. Could swim on one side and fish on the other. The owner takes a lot of pride in the property with spectacular upkeep. The lake was right in between Kueka and Seneca Lakes. Short drive to Watkins Glenn and many wineries. Would highly recommend to anyone who want to sit and relax and enjoy being right on the lake.
What a hidden gem! The cottage was perfect for us and our family. We slept comfortably in all the rooms, the place was thoroughly cleaned. The amenities were very helpful with a fully stocked kitchen which made it easy to cook daily in addition to the bikes on hand to use, the two kayaks and fishing poles. Once we arrived we didn't want to leave for any reason, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely! My son caught a 20 inch bass right off the dock (great spot for fishing). We enjoyed nightly campfires and loved the Adirondack chairs on the beach. The memories made there were priceless--it was well worth it and we look forward to returning. We did explore the Garret Chapel, Ravines Winery as well as a hike at Watkins Glen State Park! There is so much to see and do in the area and it is picturesque, but it sitting out on one of the two lakeside porches is heaven.
A perfect lake cottage for a small reunion with my sister and her family. It is nicely decorated; clean as a whistle, neat , tidy and well maintained. The kitchen was well orginized and fully stocked with more than we needed for a family of nine. The two decks and beach added a more comfortable living space for dining, reading, and games. The dock was excellent for swimming and provided a perfect platform fo non-stop fishing. The fish were plentiful and were egar to be caught!. The owner provided us with two top quality kayaks and PFDs that added another dimension to our stay on the lake.
Thank you Sylvia for sharing your lake home with us. You are a wonderful host who made us feel so welcome.
This cottage is great for the vacation of me and my sister family reunion. My kids love this place so much. Every decoration inside are so sweet and warm. The owner is so organized with all the instruction on how to use everything. The best thing is the owner is a really nice and warm-hearted person. The place is clean and there are all cooking tools in the kitchen. The view from the cottage is so beautiful. It was really convenient to travel around, such as winery, museums, state parks. All of us was satisfied with the place and person. All of these make us a wonderful memory for our family.
This was the perfect lake house for our family. We loved the double decks with beautiful views of the lakes. The house is clean and very well maintained. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The location is perfect for visiting wineries, going to the Windmill and hiking in Watkins Glen. It was just what our family needed for a quick getaway before school started! We would definitely stay here again.
Renter has the use of a rowboat, the use of fishing poles, and water rafts for your enjoyment. You may also use the kayaks and bicycles.
