October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:
“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

American as Apple Pie
“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.
Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

Wonderful and cozy!!!
The house was very clean, well-decorated, and perfect for our weekend stay! Our family stayed in the house on the property as well and it was fun to be close to them, yet have our own private place! We would love to come and stay here again!
Best Rental Yet!
Beautiful cottage, very well cared for and comfortable. The location is perfect for traveling the wine country. A huge thank you to the Doyles.
Amazing vacation spot. Best of the Best
We’ve stayed at numerous vacation homes but Heidi’s attention to detail makes this one stand out from all the rest.
The grounds are well landscaped and immaculate. The design of the home lends itself to both privacy and family gathering. The interior design is well considered and appealing.. . & everything you could ask for is provided. Heidi is friendly attentve and accommodating without being intrusive. We highly recommend this spot. It is one of our favorites
Great location and welcoming hosts!
Our hosts were so welcoming and the home was beautiful, comfortable, and conveniently located to many wineries! Plan on staying here again the next time we’re in the area! Owner is very easy to work with, too!
Love Blackberry Cottage
Our stay at Blackberry was great! Heidi and Brent are fantastic hosts! The cottage is in a very safe and convenient location. It has everything you need and very comfortable. The kitchen and living area has an open concept that is so nice for being together. The property is beautiful and spacious. My only complaint was I had to leave!
Incredible vacation home!
My wife and I rented Blackberry Cottage for ten days in early November to celebrate our anniversary. Heidi (the owner) was a pleasure to deal with during the booking process and we enjoyed our stay so much we told her she might have to have us evicted! Centrally located in Sebastopol, the house was the perfect base for exploring Sonoma Wine Country and all its attractions (lots of great wineries and restaurants just a short drive away), as well as being an easy ride to Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast (take Coleman Valley Rd. to Salt Point State Park if you get the chance...amazing!).
The house itself was fantastic! We've stayed in lots of vacation homes over the years and I can't think of one that was nicer than Blackberry Cottage. The grounds were beautiful with a sense of seclusion even though just off a main road....we wish we could have enjoyed the deck out back more than we did but it was a bit too chilly during our stay. We were greeted with a gorgeous fruit basket and a couple of bottles of wine left by Heidi. The house was immaculate and the modern kitchen was well-stocked with just about anything we needed, including oils and vinegars, spices, condiments, etc, even bottled water in the fridge! We had gone shopping before we arrived and found that we didn't need half the things we bought. There was a 65" television in the cozy living room (and smaller tv's in both bedrooms), the mattresses were extremely comfortable, and it was convenient to have a washer and dryer available for our use. I'm sure there are several other features I'm leaving out, but rest assured you'll have just about everything you could need for a great vacation.
Lastly, I can't forget mentioning the message we got one day from Heidi asking us if we'd like some Dungeness crabs she and her husband had caught just that day. When we got home from wine tasting, there was a cooler on our doorstep with two large crabs inside that became the base for a delicious dinner of pasta with crab sauce....Thanks again, Heidi!
