October 21, 2011 – New York Times, Emily Brady:

“Sonoma County may be best known for its wineries and the tony (sic) towns of Healdsburg and Sonoma, but West County, as locals call the area around Sebastopol, is where the vineyards begin to give way to rolling hills, bohemian enclaves and the wild Pacific Coast beyond. Sure, there’s wine produced here — excellent pinots in particular — but there’s plenty to explore beyond it, especially around Sebastopol, where in recent years new restaurants, shops and live music venues have opened, securing the town’s position as West County’s arts and culture hub.”

American as Apple Pie

“‘I’ve been to Napa and Sonoma,’ you hear people say, as if they were one and the same. Sure, Sonoma’s 300-plus wineries, like those of vine-centric Napa, offer peak wine tasting, from Ravenswood’s deep Zinfandels to Gloria Ferrer’s sophisticated sparklers. But if you’ve visited only the county’s wineries, come back to sample the astounding diversity that makes Sonoma one of America’s travel treasures.

Spend some time floating in an inner tube down the Russian River and walking amid ancient giants—one over 1,400 years old—at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Poke around the old Russian stockade at Fort Ross, which turns 200 in 2012, or the Spanish adobe mission, San Francisco Solano, in Sonoma town. Hunt for antiques along Petaluma’s downtown Victorian row, and dine on seasonal sake-steamed, aged abalone at Michelin-starred Cyrus in Healdsburg. And don’t miss a flaky, fruit-packed slice of Gravenstein pie from Mom’s Apple Pie, a roadside stop outside Sebastopol. It ranks up there with a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir as a real taste of Sonoma.”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Blackberry Cottage. The house and overall property were wonderful. The house is very nicely furnished and is fully stocked with everything you would ever need. The complimentary wine and fruit basket were an especially nice touch. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the area.

Wonderful, above expectations and better than described!

My wife and I truly could live here. It is very private and has immaculate grounds and technically, your own yard. The house was in such good shape it was like nobody had ever lived there before. Perfectly decorated. This is on a small gated property at approximately three homes. Did not see another person the whole time we were in the area.

We ourselves have a listing on VRBO and take great pride in how clean and stocked we keep our house. They out did us!!! Great furnishings, linens, kitchen utensils and cookware, even personalized toiletries two bottles of wine and A fruit basket.By all means we would recommend this house to anybody and would stay there again.

One thing to note is that only the upstairs king bedroom is air-conditioned. My guess is that this is only a problem two or three days per year. We had one of the hottest days on record, approximately 106° and found that the house got pretty warm during the day but cooled down nicely- and we have not left the air conditioning running during the day. My guess is as long as the temperatures stay below 95 and you leave the windows open at night to cool the house as much as possible it would not be a problem. Interestingly on the day that it was 106 The temperature at night dropped to 52°.

Enjoy your stay.

Amazing spot tucked away. You are close to everything but feel like you are in the wine country.

Blackberry cottage is a gem tucked away amongst the wine country. My husband and I loved our weekend here. Upon arrival, we were greeted with complimentary wine and a beautiful Fruitbasket. Our hosts were very hospitable and helpful. We had a few friends for dinner and a ping-pong tournament in the garage. The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. This is a great location to get away for privacy and quiet as well as share fun with friends and family.
