From this nice deck, commune with birds, bunnies and butterflies!
The Red Hat’s spacious yard, surrounded by trees, is located in the rural center of the Island. Easily accessible to all Island beaches, a vacation here is restful and easy.
Your Stay includes an exclusive pass for the stunning white sand beach at Lambert’s Cove. Lambert’s Cove is a beach for young families as well as a quiet beach where adults can sit and read. A swimmer’s paradise on the bay. West Tisbury’s ocean waves are at Long Point on the Atlantic Ocean side of town. Young children play in the large pond there.
The Red Hat is just steps from a very fun General Store, The Farmers Market, the Bike Path and much more. Privacy like this is hard to find so conveniently located. All Island beaches are within a ten minute drive. A short ten-minute walk finds the sleepy town center of historic West Tisbury.
West Tisbury enjoys a relaxed and rural quality with great bike paths, many lovely conservation areas, a fitness center, a coffee shop, grocery store, the Island's best pizza – and even a nightclub tucked away among old growth trees and greenery.
Comfortable yet artful furnishings add to the ease of this home. The Red Hat is fully equipped with linens and towels, AC and all supplies.
The Vineyard was our family vacation every summer of my childhood. The island drew me back for a visit and I never left!
I started The Red Hat Bed and Breakfast, which was soon a popular success. After 12 happy years as an inn keeper, I decided to get myself out of the house a bit. And so, The Red Hat is now available for weekly summer rental.
During winter months, I dance with an improvisational modern dance troupe here on the Island and put my feet into ballroom shoes as much as possible.
Harriet Bernstein purchased this house in 2000
The Red Hat has the most delightful deck and backyard of peace and quiet, and easy-on-the-eyes greenery. The house is welcoming and comfortable.
West Tisbury is the beginning of 'Up Island' which is the more rural part of the island. It is close enough to the action of 'Down Island' but more green and more restful. West Tisbury is like the Berkshires surrounded by beach. This town is convenient to everything on the island, and has the most diverse swimming options.
Known for its rich farmland, West Tisbury is also where most of the island writers and artists live. For this it is called the 'Athens' of the island.
I love being up-island, the more rural part of the island. And i love having so much open yard around me. My property is surrounded by gorgeous tall trees. It's very soothing, quiet and visually restful. It's also very near the eclectic island icon, alley's general store where you can find almost anything. Most convenient!!
My husband and I and my brother's family rented this house together. We had three children between us. This house is perfect if you have children ( or if you don't). While you are not right on a beach, you are more or less equal driving distances from many great beaches. There are great restaurants and delis as well as farmer's markets right around the corner. The house is charming but not over the top fancy... A fact that we loved. The yard is huge. There is a great fire pit and hammock.
It is the perfect spot if you want peace and quiet and a little distance from the tourist business and traffic. Our host was helpful and accommodating. We will definitely be back!
This is the tenth year we have chosen this home in West Tisbury for our annual summer vacation in Martha's Vineyard because Harriet the owner is so wonderful and welcoming. From the beginning, she has made us feel like Vineyard insiders, giving us the scoop on the best beaches, music concerts and art openings.
The house is open and clean, and far enough off the road that traffic noise is not an issue, even when President Obama's motorcade passes by. We have small children who accompany us and there is a half acre back yard that is private and safe for them to play.
Best of all, the property is within walking distance of our favorite hiking trail: Sepiessa Point; our favorite market: Alley's General Store; and our favorite source of fresh vegetables and baked goods: the weekly West Tisbury Farmers Market.
We have found that the price is more than reasonable, so we highly recommend this warm home for your next visit to Martha's Vineyard.
We had a wonderful week at The Red Hat! The beautiful grounds/gardens are so relaxing -- perfect for small children or quiet R&R after a day at the beach. The central location in West Tisbury is very convenient, whether you want to enjoy the picturesque up-island towns/beaches or head down island for shopping, restaurants and the like. The house was very clean and well maintained. Stocked with all the necessities in good working order. We would absolutely recommend this rental.
The grounds are lovely. I like curling up with a book on a lounger in the backyard. Bunnies and Butterflies! I REALLY love being up island and so close to the best beaches. The house has always been clean, layed out well and well organized. It's a very relaxing to vacation here.
West Tisbury has many conservation areas of merit. Sepiessa near the house has 173 acres of prime coastal forest and meadow that opens onto The Tisbury Great Pond, just behind the Atlantic Ocean. Martha's Vineyard has world-class beaches on the ocean and on the bay where children enjoy the calm water. Lambert's Cove, one of the nicest beaches on the entire island is only accessible for West Tisbury residents and renters. It's on the bay, with no waves, and provides wonderful and safe swimming for all ages. Ice House Pond, also in West Tisbury, has pristine water for a memorable swim.
Gallery openings, benefits, loads of varying activities from children's dance-a-rama to lectures, concerts and films fill the calendar all summer long.
