This is a new and pretty home. Pros: In a great location, very isolated. (Which can also be a con when you are traveling as 2 single women, and come home to a dark house in the woods ..lol). Ample room for a family, everything looks new.
Cons: I would have given more stars if this felt more like a home. It was stark, there was little furniture which we didn't mind, but not even a container of salt in the kitchen. No staples at all, which is odd for a home rental. No window treatments, and the basement is still unfinished which was not a problem, but there was a serious odor coming from the basement. (Turpentine? Not sure but it was a strong chemical smell that we could smell throughout the downstairs).
It got warm in the house but there is a portable AC unit downstairs. However, the downstairs bedrooms did not cool off. The upstairs bedroom had a window unit which was small but worked well.
With a little more attention, this home would be a 5 star rental. It felt like a home that was not yet complete, but there were no big problems. The wireless worked well, which was a plus. I think the owners should invest in some window treatments and stock up the kitchen a bit for the renters. I would stay there again, the price was fair and the home was beautiful.
We were pleasantly surprised driving up to this "cottage"which was actually a 2 story, cathedral ceilinged spacious family hideaway. We are a family of four and felt like we could have our own space or have enough room to sprawl out to watch movies together at night. Marcella at the real estate office was always available, and the owner was gracious enough to buy air conditioners to ensure we were comfortable in the heat of summer. We even had a pet deer who visited us in the late afternoon! It was central to everything, and we enjoyed eating out and day trips to dish and kayak. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area. Thank you for opening up your home!
Great location, close to Acadia and local attractions, but private enough to be off the beaten path. House is new, but a work in progress, definitely will return for the next trip.
Fireplace is wood burning, hot tub is comfortable. Basement is a work in progress, and I would recommend window treatments in living room/kitchen (blinds for deck door) and upstairs bedroom. A/C upstairs worked well, but the rest of the house did get hot in the afternoon with the sun.
Given time and love, this will be a true gem to return to again and again.
Nice house, but hot!
We stayed at this house on one of the hottest weeks of the summer so far. The house is clean, new and is in great condition. There are no window treatments on the windows in the living room and kitchen/dining area so the afternoon sun beat down into the room and made it almost unbearable to stay in there for any length of time. The upstairs bedroom stayed cool because there was a window air-conditioning unit that worked well. The house is right off Route 1 and it was a short ride to Ellsworth and other attractions. The house had very little furniture in the living area and bedrooms, but this wasn't a big problem since we stayed in the unit for such as short time. Despite some of the things that could be improved, I would still recommend this house for vacation.
Thank you for your feedback. Maine can be very hot at some times of the year. We have had several requests on A/C,. We tend to get portable A/C unit for both beds and the living room. We hope to have finished the basement by the summers end which will have plenty of living space and a wet bar.
We appreciate your stay and hope to accommodate you in the future.

Clean and full of potential
This chalet in Gouldsboro, Maine is indeed in a private setting and minutes (perhaps 20-30 minutes) away from Acadia park. We had 5 in our party, though I believe 6 people could have fit comfortably. The house seemed new but clean. The basement is a work a progress and still needs finishing touches. But the rest of the house (3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms with indoor Jacuzzi) was clean and relaxing. The house had Internet access and direct television. The real estate agent was approachable with most of the house procedures. The main living room space was a tad stuffy with no central air system, but this was not a big issue because we stayed in the house during late August. Overall, I would return here for another trip in Maine.
Located 25 minutes north of Ellsworth on Coastal Route 1. 35 Minutes from Mount Desert Island. 40 Minutes from Bar Harbor. 10 minutes from Acadia's Schoodic Point.
