A Rare Vacation- On Millionaire's Row: Live in the grand style. The beautifully restored Villa Nirvana mansion. Renovated and furnished in the original style (with some mod-comes.) Originally built at the end of the 19th century by John Boulton Simpson, one of the millionaire owners and builders of the Sagamore Hotel for his family. Adjacent to the Sagamore Resort it shares the spectacular southern views of the lake and is but a short stroll to the Sagamore to eat dinner or have drinks or to go into Bolton Landing and eat at the restaurants or shop in the stores. It's also about 45 minutes to Saratoga and the Racetrack so you can go to the track and still be on the lake.

Swim from the dock or you can go to one of Bolton's public beaches if you're more of a sand person. There's also a dockspace for tenants' boat up to 25' space

Extensive porches wrap around lakeside. Airconditioned, cable televisions, well equipped kitchen, dishwasher, firstplace on first floor and in bedrooms for decoration only. Separate formal dining room with chandelier and large table. Formal living room as well as large family room with television. 5 bedrooms on second floor with 5 kings and the third floor with four bedrooms with two fulls, a full and a queen, two fulls and the 'kids room with 6 twins . There are two 3/4 baths on this floor

$600 cleaning fee

Information on the history of the house may be found in Kathryn O'Brien's 'The Great and the Gracious on Millionaire's Row,' p. 190; History of the Sagamore Hotel' by William Preston Gates and 'Old Bolton' also by Gates.

Absolutely Wonderful! Beautiful Memories!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property in August of 2015 for a family reunion/50th anniversary celebration. We had adults up to the age of 80 and children ranging from two to 16. We had an absolutely wonderful trip! Beautiful weather and fantastic amenities.

The House. It is beautiful. Wonderful period details with all the modern conveniences, including air conditioning. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were super spacious. There were PLENTY of sheets and towels. We had 20 people and we NEVER ran out of towels! The room set ups were perfect for our group. Each adult pairing got their own room and then the kids shared other rooms depending on ages. If you are short a mattress in a room - they have an entire storage area filled with new mattresses - almost like a mattress store. Most of the rooms have TVs, which I know you aren't supposed to use on vacation - but when you have a cranky toddler who just needs his Paw Patrol fix its a godsend to have a TV in almost every bedroom. The downstairs entertainment room has beautiful leather reclining furniture that was so comfortable the kids wanted to sleep there. The kitchen is well equipped for normal use.

The Outdoors. We had some novice swimmers and non swimmers in the group and they were very comfortable jumping off and swimming around the pier (weaker swimmers wore life jackets). The interior of the "boat slip" was very calm and we used the area to give the younger kids kayak lessons which they loved. The dock is spacious and the furniture provided down there was super comfortable. The furniture on the porch was incredibly comfortable and someone was probably sitting out there from dawn to well past midnight every day. The views are spectacular!! One of the unexpected joys of renting the house was the ferry boats that passed in front of the house. They would drive by and give a brief toot of their horn - nothing obnoxious or obtrusive. It delighted the kids and added to the nostalgia of renting this beautiful home.

Location. The house is right next to the Sagamore but you really don't notice it (other than getting to see their beautiful old boat The Morgan and their smaller picnic boats drive by). We walked to the sagamore a few times for dinner, lunch and cocktails. The location was also perfect for teens and Tweens because they could walk to town for pizza/ice cream. The house is Very close to grocery stores, delis, wine stores. Quick trip to Lake George for go-karts, golf etc.

The rocky horror show

  • 1 of 5

An absolute horror story . Loud dock renovations all day with half naked workers on the property . Major noise nuisance from 7 AM every morning . Bats flying around and in toilet .

Boat damage caused due to construction was not reimbursed .

A very uncooperative landlord and a useless agent .

Owner's Response: From the owner: Unfortunately you can't please everyone all the time. No one can control the weather and some outside variables. The tone if this comment is similar to that of a disgruntled employee that can often not be reasoned with and has their own agenda! The facts are as follows: This home is a magnificent piece of history built the 1860's. That's situated on the beautiful shore of Lake George New York, In the Adirondacks. It's been featured in many articles ,most recently in the summer addition of Saratoga Living magazine and 518 Life magazines August publication by the Albany Times Union. In nearly 20 years of ownership this beautifully restored house has hosted wonderful people ,who've had a wonderful time and experience ,that forged life long memories of their vacation. It's true that a brand-new dock system was constructed by a very professional organization "the Dock Doctors " They came unexpectedly from when they were scheduled and did create some minor inconvenience and noise during some daylight hours. As a result ,the landlord through the agent ,returned $2000 as a courtesy and offered an additional discount and invite to return the following summer!! With respect to the boat damage that was sustained, The facts are as follows: The marina that rented the boat to the tenant clearly stated that "the damage was due to the renter not using the bumpers that were given to them when they picked up the boat! Negligence on their part" was the marinas conclusion. I assume they had insurance. With respect to the bat , That was a first! Windows were left open and screens not used in the bathroom. I'm happy to say that the bat was safely and expeditiously returned to the outdoors. The agent handling this house and it's rentals has Successfully done so for over a decade . The firm she works for is very reputable! We welcome any questions and are happy to provide referrals! We look forward to accommodating you in this fabulous house with great history, In an extraordinary location next to the Sagamore on Green Island Lake George !!
