About Kate

We were so lucky to buy this home in the Bayou St. John neighborhood with our friends John and Debra, who live in Ohio. We have done significant renovations to the house that makes it such a comfortable and pleasant place to stay.

Kate purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Kate chose Downtown

Bayou St. John is one of the most popular neighborhoods in New Orleans. Everyone wants to live here. We know you will agree after you have stayed with us.

What makes this apartment unique

We enjoy sitting on the porch and enjoying the neighborhood atmosphere. Since there are so many choices of restaurants and things to do, we rarely have to get in the car to go anywhere. If we do go to the quarter or downtown restaurants we can easily get a cab for about $15 or take a leisurely ride on the streetcar.

Perfect! (Aug 10-15th, 2016)

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the apartment for most a week while wandering around the city, it's location could not have been better! Less than a two minute walk is a little grocery store that had everything we needed, and between the apartment are 3 restaurants. The Half Shell has the most AMAZING seafood gumbo, highly recommended! The neighbor, Kevin, was super hospitipal and gave us great advice on what to see in town and was happy to recommend other restaurants and favorite spots.

Overall there was nothing that we were wanting for, Kate was great about giving us our space and responding to my text messages. Next time we visit NOLA we will certainly stay at the fest nest again!

Great location for fun and relaxation in New Orleans!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Fest Nest for an entire week and felt it was SOOO much better than staying in a hotel or down in the French Quarter. We ended up only spending two days in downtown New Orleans (1 day in the French Quarter and 1 day in the Garden District) because we found so many other things to do in other parts of New Orleans and the surrounding areas, as well as within 15 minutes of this property. The Fest Nest is located in a wonderfully historic, quiet, residential neighborhood of New Orleans. It is well stocked with plenty of bed/bath linens as well as kitchen utensils and dishes; the only supplies we bought were food since we opted to eat breakfasts and cook some dinners there (Costco is 10 minutes by car; Winn Dixie and Rouses Market are 5 minutes). The unit is very clean, comfortable, and cozy; loved the cheery, bright, New Orleans style decor throughout.

We spent an entire day just exploring the surrounding neighborhood on foot and thoroughly enjoyed the Parkway Bakery & Tavern (poor boy sandwiches and bread pudding), Bayou Beer Garden, and Pandora's Snowballs. The property is also just a few blocks from 6 other restaurants, a coffee house, a food market, and a laundromat. Another day we walked up to the City Park (15 minutes) to visit the Botanical Gardens, a Sculpture Garden, and the Morning Call Coffee Stand (open 24 hours for your beignet fix); this park is huge with ponds and walking trails as well as the New Orleans Museum of Art, a storyland/amusement park for young children, and mini golf (seriously, you should definitely check out this park!). On the way there, we stopped and explored St. Louis Cemetery #3, one of the many above-ground cemeteries that New Orleans is famous for (also a popular stop with tour groups).

When we did venture down to the French Quarter, we took the streetcar that leaves from just outside the front of the City Park (have exact change in cash) there and back; it's a great public transportation option and much easier and cheaper than trying to find parking downtown. Another day we drove to the Garden District but found out later we could have easily used the streetcar system to go there as well. Due to this property's location, It is entirely possible to visit New Orleans without renting a car but if you do, the Fest Nest conveniently provides an off-street parking spot.

We highly recommend making this wonderful property your home base during your time spent in New Orleans!

Great place to stay in New Orleans!!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from New Orleans and loved staying at Kate's Fest Nest. It was super easy to get to the trolley and get around. We actually rented a car but parking downtown is expensive and hard to find so we found that you could park at City Park and hop on the trolley and make it easy if you are coming home at night. The walk to the trolley is easy and goes right by one of the cemeteries so stop in there and take a look around. There are restaurants close by and the Bayou Breakfast is good and reasonably priced. The Winn Dixie is on Carrolton and easy to get to on the trolley for groceries. We found a MUST TRY restaurant called Bevi Seafood right across from Winn Dixie the best gumbo and boiled crawfish!! Good Po Boys too. The Fest Next is super comfortable and is equipped with everything you may need for your stay. It's so nice to stay in a neighborhood instead of a hotel. You really get the feeling of New Orleans here. We would stay again and hope to someday soon!

HIGHLY Recommend

  • 5 of 5

Our first trip to NOLA couldn't have been made any better than by the first choice of this apartment. Clean, wonderfully decorated and incredibly stocked with anything you might need. We walked to the street car (about 4 blocks) down to the French Qtr often. The king size bed was incredible and the neighborhood so very quiet. Restaurants, markets & wine market all very close. Cafe Degas had the best meal ever but Lukes had a great happy hour for oysters! VERY SAFE for walking home late (just bring a flashlight) as most streets are quite uneven. The sting of lights on a timer was always so welcoming. The balcony was great for breakfasts, evening wine and GREAT neighbors who were able to share great local spots for almost anything. Can't recommend this rental any higher. Thanks Kate!

Lovely apartment in a beautiful neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful and tastefully decorated flat with all the amenities, this VRBO was perfect for its location near local shops, restaurants and the Racetrack, where Jazz Fest is held. We walked through quaint neighborhoods to the streetcar, to an historic graveyard, to the bayou, and to CityPark, with it's majestic live oaks and art/sculpture museums. We could catch a trolley downtown when we wanted, but really loved the Bayou St. John neighborhood! Very clean and nice. Easy to book and access through VRBO. We would book this unit again, if we go back to New Orleans!
