Take a drive to the Reykjavík Capital with all its glory, nightlife and culture, a day trip on the Golden Circle and see the exploding Geysir with all its natural power, drop by Thingvellir national park with all its nature phenomenon and view, in close up, the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. In the evenings you will always come back home to this cozy cottage in Helluskógur and probably the first thing you will do is, relax in the hot tub with a glass of red wine and enjoy the Northern Lights in the peace and quietness after a memorable day.
The lodge was built in a traditional, Icelandic summerhouse way. It´s well constructed and insulated. It´s warm and cozy all year around with all necessities and comfort. The house has an open kitchen-living room area. In the kitchen there is all white ware and equipment you need for cooking and baking and serving a lovely meal. The living room has a great corner sofa and a large Flat Screen TV and a DVD player. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable with good beds. Free WIFI.
On the large terrace there is a nice Hot Tub that fits up to 7 people, Barbecue grill and comfortable Outdoor seating. Perfect for making a good meal and relax in the peaceful environment. Beside the house there is a grass lawn which is surrounded by a birch Forrest, ideal for kids to play.
We have been connected to Borgarfjörður from childhood and would like to share good advice and information about the house or the area so don´t hesitate to send us an e-mail request about anything you would like to know and we will do our best to help you.
About Robert and Heidrun
I am a teacher and I have a BA degree in Icelandic literature. My husband Robert works as a Pilot in Europe and has a BS degree in business administration. We have two little boys, 5 and 8 years old.
Heidrun purchased this cottage in 2010
For us, this place is heaven on earth. It is cozy and comfortable and it is so easy to relax there. Robert has had the opportunity to stay in this house since childhood so it really means a lot to us. It is a cottage with history and a lot of good memories. We are happy to offer others to enjoy it.
Peacefulness - You can sit outside on the terrace or walk around the house and enjoy the nature and the amazing mountain view in the peaceful surroundings.
Location - The location of the house is ideal for exploring the west side of Iceland. There are short driving distances to many beautiful places in the nature such as waterfalls and craters. Museums and historical places are also nearby. There is only a 15 minutes drive to the nearest town, Borgarnes, where you can find for example a swimming pool, golf course, shops, bakery, restaurants, library and health care.
Even on a rainy day it was a fantastic and relaxing stay. We enjoyed it a lot!! The kids loved the football goal! Thank you Heidi & Rob! Take care!
The cabin is great and easy to find. The owners always answered my emails very quickly and were ready to help with any trouble I had. Everything we needed was there and the hot tub was wonderful - we got to see the northern lights from the hot tub on the 31st which was a magical experience. I would recommend using a 4x4 when going there though, specially if you are not used to driving on snow/ice. I would certainly recommend this cabin for anyone.
Wonderful and charming rental hom s (we rented both the main house and cottage) located in the countryside. Very clean and comfortable with every convenience thought of. The owners are incredibly responsive and helpful with planning and area information. Great location for a group to stay with easy driving to many activities and sites. The hot tubs were a definite plus at the end of a day of touring, located near a cute town with restaurants, shops and grocery. We would definitely stay here again.
We had a great stay and Heidi and Rob were excellent to work with. They were very quick to respond via email before our trip and they provided excellent information about the cabin (directions, how to use features, etc.). We loved the location as it provided access to things that we wanted to see. Highly recommend!
Indeed a beautiful cozy not-far from Snæfellsnes cottage. The property was very, very clean and pretty well maintained (mind the first step on your way in). The owner provided excellent customer service giving us a "package" of what to do in the area, very responsive, and helpful during our many-months-prior planning. I would recommend this property to one couple with up to 3 kids that are ok with one bathroom. The loft is a fun space where you can sit up almost everywhere. We liked the Stykkishólmur suggestion and want to add listening to songs from the Secret Life of Walter Mitty on the drive in. The 1 1/2 hour journey to Reykjavik was always beautiful and fun through the underwater tunnel passage (1000 isk per passage 9-29-2016) and Baja road from the house to the main-ish road. It's an ideal location to see the Northern Lights low in the ski from the hot tub or the whole show through the all-window view from the living room. Be sure not to lock yourself out if going to the hot tub. A very comfortable and gorgeous place to stay. Thank you owners!
Beautiful place, very comfortable and clean upon our arrival. Heidi provided a wealth of information for us regarding the area and was extremely accommodating throughout the process of setting up the rental. The view to the north peninsula was spectacular, even under cloudy skies, and Borgannes was very close. I would definitely rent this property again when I return to Iceland.
The house is located along the spectacular Salmon River, Langá, one of the greatest salmon rivers in Europe. There are walking paths from the house, where you can enjoy the peaceful nature and walk by the river. If you are staying in the late summer or autumn you will find blueberries growing near the river. You are welcome to pluck them, it´s delicious.
The house is a about a one hour drive north from the Reykjavík Capital and about 10 minutes from Borgarnes. In Borgarnes you can enjoy one of the nicest swimming pools in Iceland, play golf at Hamarsvöllur, visit the great Settlement center where you can learn about the Icelandic culture and saga and shop at the Bonus grocery store. In Borgarnes you will find the interesting Farmers market, Ljómalind, which sells food and products made in the area.
In the north direction, about one hour driving, you will find the old fishermen´s town Stykkishólmur, where you can go sailing, Whale Watching and enjoy Bird Watching paradise. In Stykkishólmur you can visit interesting museums like the Water museum and the Volcano museum. On the way to Stykkishólmur you will find the crater Eldborg which is an interesting natural phenomenon with lava all around.
Close to Stykkishòlmur, you'll find the great Snæfellsnes National Park. It was voted one of **Iceland Top Five** to visit. There you can enjoy Snæfellsjökull, and its magical and remarkable nature. On the way from Stykkishólmur to the National Park you will drive through a small town called Grundarfjörður. There is one of the most beautiful mountains in Iceland, called Kirkjufell. Drive on and you will find plenty of interesting places worth visiting, like Djúpalónssandur a beautiful pebbled beach, Vatnshellir Cave and the popular hiking trail by the cliff beach between Hellnar and Arnarstapi.
The beautiful Borgarfjörður area is close by Helluskógur. In Borgarfjörður you can find many interesting places to visit. The largest thermal spring in Iceland, Deildartunguhver, is located near a small town called Kleppjárnsreykir and is about 40 minutes drive from Borgarnes. Close by Deildartunguhver is the historical place Reykholt. There you can find Snorrastofa which we recommend visiting if you are interesting in Icelandic Saga. If you drive on from Reykholt towards Húsafell you will see the beautiful waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, which are absolutely worth a visit. From Húsafell you can go on a tour into the glacier Langjökull, one of Europe’s largest glacier. Amazing!
You can say about the location of the house that it is midway between the two great National Parks, Snæfellsnes and Þingvellir. Þingvellir is located on the Golden Circle and is a popular tourist destination. Þingvellir is a place of historical, cultural, and geological importance. It is the site of a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It is also home to Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. On the Golden Circle you can also visit the great waterfall Gullfoss and the hot spring Geysir.
We are here to help you plan your vacation and get the most out of your stay in Iceland. Later on we will send you an information package with the House manual and detailed directions, Restaurants and cafes in the area and Attractions in the area. We will also send you a few apps, like the Home Away Hospitality manager app where we have put in a lot of information. Also apps for Icelandic yellow pages, northern light forecast and Icelandic weather forecast. You are welcome to contact us at any time if you have any questions.
