Bar Harbor Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Acadia Access Cottage Is On A Private Property On 37 Private Acres

2 bedroom cottage (one with queen bed, one with two singles), fully equipped kitchen, portacrib and toddler's chair available, bath with shower, under eave seating in shade and picnic table in sun, direct access to Friends of Acadia trail, friendly dog allowed. Central to all aspects of Mt.Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Access to washer/dryer on premises. Very quiet and private location. We enjoyed living in this cottage for 3 years until we built a home on the property, 100 yards away and secluded from the cottage. Bar Harbor has it all: activities for kids and adults such as mountain climbing, boat rides, bicycling and hiking along the shore. An oceanarium, miniature golf, and a small waterpark are less than a twenty minute drive away.

The National Park Service organizes nature programs in the National Park for children and adults. Explore Bar Harbor's maritime setting, look for shells, sea glass, and starfish on MDI's ocean beaches. Swim in the crystal clear water of Echo Lake! Acadia Access Cottage is the perfect place to take advantage of all that Bar Harbor and MDI have to offer.

About Philip and Astri Brooks

After having lived for 28 years in Maine we realized that Mount Desert Island was the place we loved most to be. Prior to moving to China for 3 years we purchased this property of 38 acres in the heart of Mt.Desert Island with the intent to return to live in this beautiful location. We built an apartment above an existing garage (Acadia Access Cottage). When we returned 3 years ago we moved into the cottage and enjoyed living in it for 3 years. In the Fall of 2013, we completed a new home on the property, 100 yards away and quite secluded from the garage/cottage.

Philip and Astri Brooks purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Philip and Astri Brooks chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

We love the access to carriage roads, Echo Lake, Somes Sound, mountain hiking, Bar Harbor, and walking on our own property with a brook, small waterfall and direct access to Acadia Ridge Trail. We have close access to all that the island has to offer and enjoy the tranquility that surrounds us every day.

What makes this cottage unique

Centrally located. Covered outdoor ping pong table for adults and supervised young adults with possibility of challenging owner.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

The property is set back from other homes yet close in proximity to all things we wanted to do. The cottage contains everything you would need (hairdryer, pillows, shampoo, all kitchen items you could want, coffee maker, etc) including a list of places to see and eat and many extras such as a ping pong table, foosball, and a trail. We felt completely at home throughout our stay. We were able to meet Astri because we locked ourselves out of the cottage! She welcomed us into her beautiful home. We explored many of the places Astri and Philip had on their list which were also places we had on our list! Our children loved Quietside Cafe and the popovers on Jordan Pond. We wrote other favorites in the journal provided by Astri. This was our first visit to Acadia and we could not have stayed at a better place.

Not disappointed

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 4 nights and we're not disappointed. The rental is very private, and in an ideal location. Gorgeous hiking is available right in back of the rental. The rental is centrally located on the island making anything there a short drive away. It is close enough to Bar Harbor to be only a few minute drive but far enough to escape the hustle and bustle. It is far enough off the main road to feel as though one were isolated, but whatever you need is near. The lodging is very spacious and well-equipped. We were impressed with the large variety of kitchen utensils and diversity of books. Everything was clean and orderly. The owners are extremely courteous, attentive, and prompt, but not overwhelming, at all. We were very pleased with our stay.

Exceptional Gem Exceeds all Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We've rented dozens of vacation homes in the past but this delightful cottage with its friendly, knowledgeable, hosts surpassed anything we've experienced.

The photos do not reflect the overall beauty of this uniquely designed cottage with the rich wood interior, large living-room windows framing the natural beauty of the Maine woods, cozy naturally lit personal spaces as well as a surprisingly spacious layout. Furniture and beds were very comfortable and the cottage was clean, included a coffee/tea making nook and a kitchen that was so well stocked it would warm the heart of anyone who enjoys cooking.

Our hosts, Astri and Phil were warm, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the entire area. Their information sheet in the cottage was particularly helpful providing thoughtful recommendations for activities for things to do at many ability levels, wonderful places to eat and places with amazing views. As world travelers themselves, Astri and Phil understand the needs of their visitors and provided just the right amount of availability and privacy. The cottage is perfectly located just minutes from Acadia National Park, and Bar Harbor, allowing us easy access to both the Park and downtown. In the morning we enjoyed easy access to the Park to watch the seals playing at Otter Cliffs, walking a carriage road, or cooling off at Echo Lake. Then off to a delicious lunch with a great view at Thurston's, ending our day strolling the Shore Path in Bar Harbor and stopping by the Balance Rock for a drink by the ocean.

What a great week!

The only thing we didn't enjoy was leaving this perfect cottage with its wonderful hosts. Looking forward to coming back next year!

Outstanding!Spectacular! Best of both worlds..private and convenient

  • 5 of 5

This property is well maintained and breathtaking. The pictures do not capture the true comfort and beauty of the cottage. Acadia Access Cottage is very clean and fully stocked...we had every need met in kitchen and bath. There was nothing we required that was not supplied.(blowdryer. Extra blankets, pillows, even shampoo) The owners Philip and Astri are warm and welcoming and share many island activities. Even our dog was sad vacation was over she loved bounding up and down the stairs! We actually mentioned our first night that we had forgotten to grab milk ..Philip was back in minutes with milk and coffee for us! That is a great and considerate host! We explored many new hikes for us Eagle Lake and Bubble Pond..our old favorites Jordan pond path and Long Pond. And various carriage roads that were in a book at the property.(thanks for making that available) Great eating spots are Cafe Your Way for best blueberry pancakes. the Chart Room for lunch or dinner in Hulls Cove, Dry Dock Inn great lunches in Southwest Harbor..and an old favorite Poor Boy's in Bar Harbor.

We visit Acadia every year and this is THE BEST experience /vacation we have had. We hope to return next year for 2 weeks! It truly feels like a home away from home. We recommend it 100% it is all it advertises and so much more...my only negative is (purely selfish) the more people realize how incredible this property and the owners are- the harder it will be for us to get our weeks!!! Thank you so much Philip and Astri for sharing your property and all the helpful hints. We were truly blessed this week with great hosts and gorgeous September weather. It was so hard to leave!

A peaceful secluded getaway thats close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

Had an amazing week away from it all at this beautiful above garage apartment. We were greeted with views of deer, hawks and song birds from the picture window in the living room looking over wild flowers into the pine forest. A quick drive puts you right into the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. Lounging outside on the lawn, hiking on the property and using the ping pong table provided a balanced way to spend our time at the cottage. The kitchen was stocked with everything from a hand mixer, coffee grinder and even a french press. There was plenty of space to store our sea touring kayaks and bicycles outside securely. Philip and Astri were respectful of our space and friendly neighbors. Their knowledge of the island was very helpful when planning our daily excursions.

We look forward to our next island visit!

Very quiet and relaxing spot to be able to venture to just about anywhere you wanted to go on any one of the spots in Arcadia..We enjoyed exploring the harbors and the loop road is a great way to travel , lots of parking to be able to see all the attractions and beautiful scenery. Enjoyed our day trip to Schoonic Point,a must see part of Arcadia. We arrived just about high tide and the waves were amazing...Thank you Philip & Astri for sharing your beautiful space with us, I surely will recommend it . Best regards to you both.. Sandy W.
