Me and my wife went away for her Birthday. And i will have to say BIg Canoe is a great place to visit. And this cabin was good. It had a comfort about it. Many reviews my say it's dated and it might have been a little but we thought it worked. The leaves were falling and it was cold nights and the fire place was great. and the bed was comfortable. So over all we would go rent this cabin agian.
I love staying in big canoe and have stayed at many properties throughout the years. My first impression of this cabin was that it is in need of sone TLC. The deck and stairs need replacing as the wood is all soft and the stairs and railing are wobbly. We could not get the TV to come in sharp and there were huge spiders everywhere. For over way over $200.00 a night including cleaning, tax, and all the add on vrbo fees, this was not what we expected.
Outside light for the stairs didn't work, light for downstairs/laundryroom didn't work, outside chair and swing were covered in cobwebs and the front door didn't have a curtain over it so it was open for anyone to see it plus you had to slam the door in order to close it. The lady working at the main gate was beyond rude. When we were checking out and trying to find out where we needed to throw our garbage away at she acted like we were wasting her time...while driving down the road to the dump site we noticed bags of garbage on the side of the road which was probably due to people getting frustrated from dealing with her because it was confusing where you needed to go.
Fantastic view with the leaves just now starting to change colors. And over thru the trees you have a view of the lake. The cabin was smelled and felt freshly cleaned. Loved setting a fire in the wood burner to keep warm at night while resting and enjoying a nice relaxing and peaceful evening.
We've stayed in various Big Canoe Treetoppers over the years, so knew going in what to expect. This property, however, just seems neglected and not very clean. To start, we found dirty socks wedged in the couch cushions and half-empty water bottles sitting on tables. Each room/area had at least one light bulb burned out, and the oven looks to be have been from the 1970's. The worst part though was that the second bathroom smelled of urine, no doubt due to the fact that the bathrooms are carpeted - not a good idea in your own home, much less in one that sees multiple guests. Because of the carpet, it's hard to imagine how much those bathrooms are really cleaned after each rental. The beds were saggy and linen was very old. There was also a very limited selection of kitchen/dining equipment, so don't expect to be able to cook and eat in much.
On the plus side, the HVAC and water pressure were good.
We love Big Canoe, but would definitely not rent this property again.
My wife and I had a very pleasant weekend stay there to get away from work and the hustle and bustle from everyday life. The place was well kept and cozy. The master bedroom has a very comfy bed and both a sit down bath and a shower. There is also a room with 2 bunk beds that we had no need for but found some fun games and made use of the extra pillows. The view is beautiful with an over view of the mountains and the lake. We spent every night sitting out on the porch which hangs over the hill that the cabin sits on. Lots of fun trails around in walking distance that have waterfalls and old cabins from the 1800's that you can walk through. Definitely recommend this place for a romantic get away or for the family.
