About Greg

We built this cabin because we fell in love with Lake O'brien. The cool clean water, wildlife, mature trees and evening fires are some of the features that make our home a wonderful place to "escape" from the stress and daily grind. Sleep with the window open and hear the loons calling in the spring, it is absolutely serene.

Greg purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Greg chose Brainerd Lakes

With 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen with plenty of room for family, a workout room and 225 feet of sandy beach, this is the place to go to enjoy your next family gathering. With special prices in the summer, fall and winter, it is the perfect place to get away with someone special for a long weekend and relax in front of the stone fireplace.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our stay, there was plenty of room for all to do their own thing. It is a great place to have our family together in one place. The kitchen is a cooks dream with plenty of counter space to bake or just gather with snacks etc. Our granddaughters had homework to do, the loft was great for that, they could study yet be a part of our conversations. Football was on the TV for the guys and the gals were playing games and baking cake our son-in-laws birthday.

The weather was great for taking family pictures, with the leaves turning it will be a memory not forgotten. We will definitely come back!

Perfect Bachelorette Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is great! We had a big group of ladies stay for the weekend and it was perfect! Very spacious, comfy sleeping arrangements, great kitchen and an awesome view. Greg and Lisa Oothoudt were extremely welcoming and helpful during our stay. I would definitely recommend this place and hope to visit again when the weather is warmer for the pontoon, grill and bonfire pit!

Awesome place for girls weekend!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 11 ladies in our 30s stay here to celebrate a bachelorette. The kitchen was amazing and allowed us to cook (which is what we love to do) and enjoy each other's company. The home is more beautiful than even the pictures show. Owners were responsive and polite.

Friend's Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our getaway at your Lake O'Brien home. The cabin is gorgeous, so spacious, clean and well decorated. The kids loved the bunk beds upstairs! It's the perfect place to be comfy, relax and enjoy time with friends and family. The view and access to the lake is great, too! We definitely want to come back! Thank you again!

Phenomenal property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a weekend getaway with 11 of us for 2 nights. We were absolutely floored to see how beautiful the house was. Every detail was wonderful, from the huge kitchen island, to having plenty of dishes, to having a full bathroom on each of the 3 levels, and having prime sleeping areas for all of our guests. We will be making this an annual tradition! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful property with us.

Great Valentine Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing. Pictures can't describe the way this cabin looks. It's breathtaking in the morning and evening. The view is wonderful. The Crew rented this place over Valentine Weekend and spent most of our time with one another. Plenty of room for everyone to mingle and enjoy the company of one another. If you haven't rented this please please do so as it a great place to spend with friends and families. Wasn't disappointed at all and the owners where easy to work with. Thanks for letting us rent this place and building new memories.

Gorgeous cabin right for any occasion!

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for weekend getaway ice fishing for a big group of guys and wanted to get us some cabins. I decided to read some of the reviews on this cabin and as I travel a lot for work I always read the worst reviews on a place to see if whatever the worst scenario is, I would still be able to live with being at that location. To my surprise, I couldn't find any bad reviews, which made me a little leery that the place was too good to be true. Greg and everyone I spoke to throughout the entire process were quick to respond with any inquiries or concerns. All the way from the first inquiry on the property to the return of the security deposit, Greg was professional and very inviting to all questions I had. When we pulled up to the cabin, we all got quite excited as it indeed looked like the pictures. We arrived at dark and when we got on to the porch, the lights didn't work which made it hard to unlock the lock box. I will say that is probably the first and last thing that wasn't right. We got inside and it was amusing to see a bunch of grown men run around the house claiming their beds and yelling out "you've got to come check this out." Everything in the description of the house is right on; the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need, the loft is spacious, beds were clean, fitness center is a legit fitness center (better than any hotel I stay at), bathrooms had linens (though if you are with a big group bring some extra as Greg says to), and the view was gorgeous even at night. We woke up in the morning (some of later than others because if you stay in the one downstairs bedroom there are no windows and it is pitch black, VERY peaceful), and the view was gorgeous. While the neighbors were a little closer than we thought they kept to themselves except the couple times we talked to them. They were very friendly when we did and one even tried to help us pull my cousin's car out of the driveway when it got stuck after the snowfall. We got to see the eagle flying around while we fished and had a great time exploring the frozen lake. Even though it was pretty cold we still utilized the smore package promised that was waiting for us. To our surprise the only time we left the property was for the Super Bowl when we went to Zorbaz in town (great fun place). I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone during any season and plan to come back with my own family to visit the property during another season. Thank you Greg!
