This is a unique and incredible house. We were late but our host waited 3 hours for us to arrive. He took us to the grocery store and then on a moonlit boat ride to the house. It was dark when we arrived. It wasn't until the next morning we saw just how amazing this location was.
We only stayed 3 nights but made it to Star Island, another Island to snorkel, got to town to party one night and even managed to find time to have massages at the house. One night they provided a cook.
I was initially concerned about the lack of AC. I stayed in the downstairs bedroom. With the door open and fan on it was as comfortable as my home with the AC set to 72. It did get very warm in the afternoons there but we usually out doing something and not sitting around the house anyway.
Our guide Jose knew the area perfectly and was a great guide as well as boat captain. Whenever we were ready to go (even at 2am) he was right there.
There is loads of wildlife. There were large JellyFish viewable from the dock the first day, Egrets around almost all day, howler monkies (heard but not seen) and a resident gray 3-towed sloth. Just ask the gardener to point him out.
Just don't make the same mistake we did and book too short of a trip. There is a lot to see and do here. You won't want to leave. Oh and make sure you check out the glass floor under the coffee table that looks into the ocean. I didn't notice it until the last day.
I will start off by saying that we had the worst weather possible while we stayed there! Spoke to a couple locals and they said that it was one of the heaviest rains that they had seen in years!
With that said, we absolutely loved the property! When the rain let up, we would grab the kayaks, stand up paddle boards or snorkel gear and hit our "front yard" for some amazing snorkeling and kayaking. Loads of things to see so you can spend hours entertaining yourselves. Even got to swim with a spotted eagle ray for about 10 minutes. It was great.
They had an assortment of fishing gear, which my brother decided to use while it was raining. He sat on the patio in a hammock, fishing pole in hand, cold beer next to him, and with a kernel of corn on the hook, caught a several fish. All while sitting on the patio in a hammock while it was pouring rain!
The people taking care of the property were great. Even though it was terrible weather, they were always willing to do whatever we needed. We were able to do one excursion for a few hours where we got to see white faced monkeys, sloths and red frogs. Oh yeah, and we caught a rainbow jack on the way to the island!
We were basically locked indoors the entire time we stayed at this property and we loved every second of it. Our group was 5 adults aged 18 through 55. And we all agreed it was one of the best houses that we had ever stayed in.
Honestly, I think we may have been lucky to have the crazy rain. Otherwise, we would have not been able to spend so much time in this incredible house.
Rain or shine, if you are going with a group of friends and/or family, do not book anywhere other than Casa del Mar!!!
Parents with 3 teenagers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay of 8 nights at Casa Del Mar. We made good use of the boogie boards at Red Frog Beach. We went on several snorkeling trips. Jose - the boat captain - was a wonderful guide. Zapitilla is a must. The chef cooked for us every night, as we decided to have lunch out and dinner in. He was marvelous. Our family has many food allergies and food intolerances, and he made us all very happy. The reef right out in front of the home is filled with colorful coral and starfish. We used the kayaks and SUP boards daily. The owner is great to work with and was quite helpful. The home fit us all easily. The bugs got us a bit, but you are in the rainforest, so its small price to pay. The land around the home is lush.
Beautiful location and excellent attention to detail! We were a family of six with two children, 4 and 7 and fit very comfortably. We were greeted by Jose, who assisted us with shopping and drove us to the house. He spent about 15 minutes giving us a tour and some tips, along with a phone if we needed to contact him. Snorkel gear kayaks, and paddle boards were in excellent shape, we did bring life vest and snorkel gear for the kids, but plenty of choices for adults. The chef prepared AMAZING meals every night, and would highly recommend having him cook every meal! Our boat capitan was friendly, professional and picked us up on time everyday we had something planned. We booked a tour at Green Acres Chocolate Farm which is about 5 minutes away and loved it! Robert was a wonderful tour guide and gives a great education in the making of chocolate as well as the jungle. Coconut oil for the no-see-ums worked the best, along with a citronella candle, but didn't find it to buggy. If you're looking for the best spot to rent in Bocas, this is it!!! Will definately be recommending Casa Del Mar in the future.

Loved our week long stay here and can't think of anywhere else that has such a great combination of activies and relaxation! This awesome house is exactly as pictured and has everything you need to enjoy it. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to cook in. We also hired a cook who prepared a wonderful meal for us on our last night. What a treat! We went snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and used the paddle boards....all equipment was there for us and in good condition. This bay is absolutely perfect for paddle boarding!
Recommendation for all who go there is to hire Jose, the boat captain, as much as possible. He is the greatest, very flexible with your needs and will take you wherever you want to go. If you don't know where to go, he always has a good ideas. One of our favorite days was when he took us for a hike through the nearby jungle showing us sloths, frogs, and telling us about the plants. He sees things most would miss and is a wealth of knowledge!
Don't miss going to Red Frog beach....one of the best beaches ever and not too touristy (at least on a weekday)
The beds are all comfortable and the ceiling fans are good at keeping the house cool. We loved the fact that the house is off the grid and found it very easy to make the small adjustments to accommodate this.
We will definitely consider returning here and found the the owner very prompt and responsive to any questions we had! This was a win, win for sure!
(The only negative is the small bugs that come out in the evening require use of insect repellent if you want to hang out on the front deck) A small price to pay for paradise!
