About the property

Family Cottage In Row Of Cottages. Lapping Water At Night, Swim And Walk, sunsets

Small beachfront cottage is feet from the water and feet from Beach Rd. where you can flag down a bus or ride or walk to Vineyard Haven (1 mile) or Oak Bluffs (2 miles). Unbelieveable sunsets. Piano. Games. 3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 with doubles and one with two twins. You don't even need to bring a car! If a family member can't do stairs, the couch opens up and the full bath is on the first floor. Watch parasailers and ferries and fishermen, walk up the beach to the jetty, rent bikes, explore the island. Or just stay home and read on the porch. Wifi, grill, TV. Some of the pictures are before we moved the stairs to the beach. And I can't get them to be vertical, sorry! So relaxing at the house. In the family for many years and we rent it out when we are not there. There's a great new Film Society less than a mile away with nightly good movies.

About Franny

Photo, top left is my father who owns the house. My NY-based maternal grandfather used to summer in the cottage and do his plaster-to-bronze sculptures on the porch. In 1975, my family added a second floor with three bedrooms. Our family has squeezed many of us in for laughter-filled weekends of games and swimming, sunsets, meals on the porch. Right now we rent it most of the summer. We live in various parts of the Boston area and Amherst, MA. Photo is from Dad's house.

Franny purchased this cottage in 1950

Why Franny chose East Chop

Lifelong memories. My family first rented this cottage in the1940's and then bought it back in the 1950's. I love that everything is right there, from views to fun water play right outside, to public buses, to hospital, to villages and film society and theatre. People flock to Eastville Beach and we are right there!

What makes this cottage unique

Cute house, right on the water. It is hard to find houses that are literally 15 feet from the water. Convenient to everything--ferries and fun.

Enjoyed the ocean breeze!

  • 5 of 5

Franny's house was the perfect Girls-Weekend-Get-Away. Absolutely clean, had everything we needed in the kitchen, with a spacious deck out back overlooking the Vineyard Sound. We happened to book during the Food and Wine Festival, all by chance, and got to enjoy the events. Some of us had never been to the Island so we drove through every town and took in the major sites. Then we took an easy walk to VH, rented bikes, and rode out to Edgartown. Franny was immediately available when we had quick questions. We truly enjoyed our stay and for anyone wanting to be on the water in a central location to VH and OB, look no further! Thank you, Franny!

Owner's Response: I am so glad you found everything you needed! You sound like you really know how to take in a place--exploring every town, renting bikes and riding to Edgartown (I hope you did the Oak Bluffs to Edgartown path, so beautiful), and showing up just in time for a Food and Wine Festival! Thanks for renting in the off season, and for your nice review.

Great weekend on MV

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Franny for renting your house to us. We really enjoyed your back deck only steps from the water. The house is quaint and cozy & we loved the location, close to everything. We highly recommend your place to anyone looking for a nice place to relax and enjoy peace and tranquility. The sunsets were amazing too.

Spectacular Ocean View

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome time just sitting on the deck, which was just steps to the water, watching the ferry boats come and go, not to mention the sea gulls and occasional fish jumping out of the water. The sunsets were beautiful too. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Reading your review during a cold snap in November makes me want to be there with the fish jumping and the gulls... I am so glad you enjoyed your time on the deck by the sea! Thank you.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to stay. Right on the water and perfect view for beautiful sunsets. This cottage is central to both Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. The shuttle bus will stop right in front of the cottage when asked. I would suggest bringing a car. Even though the bus is convenient for most travel, it does take extra time to get from place to place. The cottage was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. We were greeted with a very welcoming vase full of beautiful flowers on the table. Very thoughtful!

Franny was great to correspond with and very attentive to my endless questions. A weekend was not enough time to see everything this island has to share.

Thanks Franny for a wonderful opportunity to kick back and enjoy a relaxing weekend with my family. We all enjoyed it.

Absolutely PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect little cottage in a perfect location! I've wanted to visit MV for most of my life and finally did in my 40s. It was everything I had always dreamed!!! Loved this cottage! Very easy walk, bike ride or bus ride into Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs for shopping or dining. However, the cottage is wonderful to just stay in and has all the amenities for cooking and grilling. Cottage was clean, well-maintained, and accurately described. Franny, the lessor was wonderful to work with and has a VERY quick response time. Two of the bedrooms face the cove with beautiful views to wake up too. Particularly enjoyed waking to the sound of waves each morning. The back porch is spacious and perfect to enjoy the sunsets. I will definitely return and stay here again! Thank you Franny!

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing getaway on the Oak Bluffs-Vineyard Haven line allowing for ocean vistas steps from the back door, run to town followed by breakfast at Art Cliff Diner. Great to hear the ocean while sleeping at night!
