About the property

Family Cottage In Row Of Cottages. Lapping Water At Night, Swim And Walk, sunsets

Small beachfront cottage is feet from the water and feet from Beach Rd. where you can flag down a bus or ride or walk to Vineyard Haven (1 mile) or Oak Bluffs (2 miles). Unbelieveable sunsets. Piano. Games. 3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 with doubles and one with two twins. You don't even need to bring a car! If a family member can't do stairs, the couch opens up and the full bath is on the first floor. Watch parasailers and ferries and fishermen, walk up the beach to the jetty, rent bikes, explore the island. Or just stay home and read on the porch. Wifi, grill, TV. Some of the pictures are before we moved the stairs to the beach. And I can't get them to be vertical, sorry! So relaxing at the house. In the family for many years and we rent it out when we are not there. There's a great new Film Society less than a mile away with nightly good movies.

About Franny

Photo, top left is my father who owns the house. My NY-based maternal grandfather used to summer in the cottage and do his plaster-to-bronze sculptures on the porch. In 1975, my family added a second floor with three bedrooms. Our family has squeezed many of us in for laughter-filled weekends of games and swimming, sunsets, meals on the porch. Right now we rent it most of the summer. We live in various parts of the Boston area and Amherst, MA. Photo is from Dad's house.

Franny purchased this cottage in 1950

Why Franny chose Oak Bluffs

Lifelong memories. My family first rented this cottage in the1940's and then bought it back in the 1950's. I love that everything is right there, from views to fun water play right outside, to public buses, to hospital, to villages and film society and theatre. People flock to Eastville Beach and we are right there!

What makes this cottage unique

Cute house, right on the water. It is hard to find houses that are literally 15 feet from the water. Convenient to everything--ferries and fun.

Right on the water!

  • 5 of 5

You can hardly get much closer to the water than by staying in this Vineyard home. The house is small and old-fashioned, but that makes it all the more charming. Bring your water shoes for the rocky beach and enjoy the beautiful water morning, noon, and night! Fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the lapping waves right outside your window. The house is conveniently located near both Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. We definitely want to return!

Great location in a cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice house right on the water with views of boats, ferry, and and sunset.

Walk up and down the beach, watch the gulls, and hear the waves from your bedroom.

Owner was quite responsive through the entire rental process.

Had a great time- thank you!

Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

This trip was perfect! we loved where the house was located (on the water) and the house had everything needed! We didn't have any complaints with it! It was very comfortable and relaxing and all in all, one of the best vacations we have had in a while!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. I am so glad you enjoyed your June stay! Next time, by the way, remind me to tell you where there is a child gate that people can use at the bottom of the stairs if wanted. I just came across it and was thinking that you might have found it useful.

Charming beachfront cottage with spectacular sunsets

  • 4 of 5

Perfect location!!

Walking distance from Vineyard Haven as well as Oak Bluffs; we ride bikes to both. Convenient location to ferries and many activities that the island has to offer.

Nice sized deck, 16 steps to ocean!

You wake up to the sound of the waves hitting against the shore. Enjoy the most spectacular sunsets the island has while you dine and relax on the back deck.

Steps away from local, quiet beach where you can collect beautiful crystals, seashells, and rocks or just swim and relax. For a more private scene, the lagoon beach area across the road is less than a 2 minute walk and kids LOVE exploring the lagoon and enjoying the sand bar. Comfortable outside shower, right outside back door. While the parking can be a bit tricky, there is ample room for a large vehicle. Relaxing all around!

Great location, very small.

  • 3 of 5

The fact that it is waterfront is this rentals best feature. It is very small inside and quite dated. There is nowhere to park more than one car, and the one parking space is very tricky to get into off the main road.

Owner's Response: Thanks for renting and your review, Melinda. I agree the waterfront is the cottage's best quality.
