About Gary Ferroni

I'm available to my guests as needed but I give generous space/privacy. My own home is less than one-mile away, located in the Sycamore/Freeman Park neighborhood. I'm happy to give recommendations and even a little historical perspective to those who ask. I am third generation Mill Valley, raising my children (The fourth generation) in this idyllic town that we are grateful to call home. I look forward to having you here as our guest.

Gary Ferroni purchased this apartment in 1999

Why Gary Ferroni chose The Bay Area

Guests love our location and the the fine interior appointments. Just 15 minutes to San Francisco and 50 to the Napa Valley Wine Country! Arguably the best rental to use as a "home-base" and conveniently participate in all of the best that the city of Mill Valley, the Bay Area and environs has to offer.

What makes this apartment unique

Our rental is especially rare since it's IN THE DOWNTOWN! Moreover, three bedroom rentals with two full baths located here are extremely hard to come by.

Our guests say that it's everyone's favorite place to meet when friends and family are either visiting or staying in the area. Convenient, comfortable and fun are our hallmarks!

Great home and a Perfect location for San Francisco

  • 5 of 5

Stayed three nights for a girls, old mom's weekend and it was WONDERFUL. Mill Valley is a perfect location if you plan to visit wine country, Sausalito and San Francisco. This home is walking distance to everything you need in Mill Valley, including a boutique shopping area. We loved it!

The only thing I would recommend to Gary, who is a super friendly and thoughtful host, is more mirrors :) There are two full bathrooms, but when five women are trying to get ready at the same time, it can get vicious.

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home. We had a wonderful weekend.

I really loved the location with some reservations.

  • 4 of 5

Upon arrival, our group was a bit disappointed that the property was behind a storefront, that it smelled a bit musty even though all the windows were open. We were also surprised that the apartment was an upstairs unit. The apartment was extremely clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were comfortable and we all slept well in spite of the noise. This unit is right downtown in Mill Valley. That makes it a wonderful place to stay. Plenty of restaurants, groceries, and a movie theater are just steps from the front door. The beautiful central plaza is right down the street. We enjoyed Mill Valley each evening after sight-seeing in San Francisco or Point Reyes. But if you are a light sleeper be fore-warned the buses start running early and trucks are emptying dumpsters at all the restaurants every morning and with open windows it gets noisy early. Both bathrooms were adequate, but small. Our only other complaint was the lack of air-conditioning when the heat wave hit. Being from Texas, I usually won't stay anywhere without AC, but I failed to confirm that before booking. And it was fine our first two days there, but then the temperature soared. We were gone most of the day and returned late from our evening tour of Alcatraz. Luckily, we located two fans that we could train right on our beds and it did cool down enough to sleep. But by the time we checked out at 10 am the following morning with the temperature in the 90's it was oppresive in the apartment. All in all, we enjoyed our stay with just a few reservations.

Owner's Response: Melanie and her family were wonderful to host and I would happily welcome them back. Just a few comments and perhaps clarifications of her review: * The "description" of our property on this site clearly indicates that we have a storefront (Quite beautiful and quiet actually). * Directly below the storefront information, we boast that our flat is located "entirely on the second floor". * I'm not aware of a "musty" odor and that would certainly be cause for concern. During Melanie's stay we had record heat accompanied by regional fires. Perhaps there was a remnant of the fire's smoke in the flat? * Air conditioning is very rare in Mill Valley homes. Our average temperature is 70 degrees. Again, our listing clearly indicates no AC. * The two fans that Melanie "luckily" located are actually large floor fans that we keep in our dining and living room for our guests to enjoy. Additionally, each bedroom has a beautiful over-sized ceiling fan. Finally, we have over 13 windows that can be opened for fresh air. * We are located in the heart of our little village and we do have regular garbage service for adjacent restaurants and a convenient bus stop just one block away. To my knowledge, this is our first review that included "noise". Having said that, I would expect to hear all that Melanie mentioned with the windows being open. Best, Gary

Great place just far enough from the hustle and bustle of SF!

  • 5 of 5

From the beginning of the stay until we left, everything was even better than we had hoped for. Smooth check-in, very clean, and enough room for the 6 in our party to be comfortable. So glad we went this route, versus a hotel in SF. Home was exactly as described. We had one minor question, and Gary was very prompt in responding. Will definitely recommend to any friends traveling to the Bay Area.

Our family just spent two weeks traveling the California coast, and we enjoyed our stay in Mill Valley more than any other stop. Oh, if you like Italian, I recommend Vasco restaurant, which is a block or so away.

Park your car and leave it!

  • 5 of 5

Our goal was to take some great hikes, eat well, and relax. It was easy to accomplish that in this downtown apartment. All of our hikes were literally right out the door, as were coffee and great restaurants. The unit was equipped with everything we could needed, and more! I would definitely come back.

Mill Valley is a picturesque California town of 14,000 residents and creative hideaway situated on the eastern slope of Mount Tamalpais. Nestled among redwoods, hills and canyons, Mill Valley is only ten minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge and City of San Francisco, yet less than one hour from the Sonoma and Napa Valley Wine Country. Smithsonian Magazine named Mill Valley one (No. 4) of the 20 best small towns--with a population under 25,000--in America.

What sets Historical Mill Valley apart is not just the spectacular physical beauty of its setting, but equally its human environment-uniquely combining tranquility and liveliness, privacy and community involvement, urban sophistication and village charm. Starting in 1905 with The Dipsea Race, the first cross-country race in the country, Mill Valley has a rich cultural tradition with the Mountain Play in 1913, the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival in 1957, the Marin Theatre Company, a professional regional theatre in 1966, the Mill Valley Film Festival in 1978 and the 142 Throckmorton Theatre since (website hidden)-opened in February 2012, after a lengthly absence, is the Sweetwater Music Hall located in the remodeled Masonic Hall, located two blocks from the Rental.

Mill Valley is flanked by the picturesque City of Sausalito, 10 minutes south and the Town of Tiburon 10 minutes east with Angel Island State Park only a one mile ride (via Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry), all on San Francisco Bay. Although Mill Valley is close to San Francisco, it is adjacent to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and only 10 minutes to the Muir Woods National Monument and Tennessee Valley Trail head, 20 minutes to Muir Beach, or Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, 30 minutes to Stinson Beach and less than an hour to Point Reyes National Seashore.

Although one recommends longer stays, Mill Valley is 2-1/2 hours to Monterrey and Carmel and four hours to spectacular Lake Tahoe or Yosemite National Park; Yosemite Valley should be on your 'bucket list' and, especially during late spring, one of the most beautiful places in the world.
