Kentucky Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Studio Bedroom: Furnished, Sleeps 4, Stocked Private Pond, Firepit, DVD, WIFI

Here is a comfortable cottage that has many perks.

Spend some time sitting on the covered back deck that overlooks a private, stocked pond.

Build a fire in the fire pit and have a cookout.

The cottage is comfortable, spic and span clean, and offers many extras.

You will certainly enjoy sitting on the large covered back deck and watching the humming birds flying from feeder to feeder. They will entertain you for hours!

Sit on the floating dock and feed the fish.

Feel free to take a walk around the property and breathe in the fresh, country air. You may even get a glance of deer or turkey while on your walk.

In the evening, go outdoors and see the magnificent galaxy of stars dot the sky.

If you are an avid bird watcher, you will enjoy the various birds who will visit the bird feeder right outside the front window. Cardinals, nut hatches, goldfinches, blue jays, woodpeckers, and chickadees are the most common birds that are seen feeding.

Watch the three resident horses graze in the fields surrounding you. If you wish, you may feed them carrots and apples. Our horses are very gentle and love our guests, especially ones who come bearing treats!

The inside of this cottage is loaded with character and charm; it even has a real tree trunk in it! You will be pleased when you see all the amenities that are included; just bring your clothes, food, and drinks, plus fishing poles and bait if you plan on fishing. See the 'amenities' section to see a complete list of what is supplied.

The massive floor to ceiling genuine field stone chimney containing a gas log gives a warm, cozy glow to the bedroom. (Fireplace is on seasonal, usually between late September through mid April).

The cottage is equipped with high speed unlimited WIFI for your convenience.

A 32 inch flat screen television is is equipped with Dish programming. Local Lexington channels are included, plus four Epix Movie channels for your viewing enjoyment. The cottage also has a DVD player, so you can bring your favorite movies with you in case you cannot find anything you like on the Dish or Epix channels.

A Lazy Boy rocker/recliner to relax on and a couch that converts into a queen sized sleeper bed is also part of the living room decor.

Finished original wood flooring is in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom and adds a rustic touch to the inside of the cottage.

The kitchen is large, and fully stocked so that if you wish, you can cook some great tasting meals.

The cottage has a full size bathroom.

Your well behaved and housebroken pet is welcome to accompany you for an additional charge of $25.00 per visit per pet under three days. Over three days, the fee is $10.00 per day per pet. Limit of two pets per stay. If you have plans to bring your pet, please mention this to us as you are making your reservation.

(At check in, you will be required to sign a rental agreement stating number of pets and overnight guests in your party.)

Feel free to build a fire in the fire pit that is in the backyard. No need to bring firewood as we supply the wood for you. It's a great way to end a perfect day.

The cottage also has ample parking for your truck/trailer if you plan on bringing your ATV.

The cottage is conveniently located 3 miles off I-75. It is a short drive to London and other nearby attractions.

Renfro Valley Music Center is only a 15 min. drive from the cottage.

Other places and events that may be of interest to you include:

Speaking of food, there are many different restaurants in nearby London, KY.

Hiking trails are plentiful in our area; feel free to roam wherever you wish on our land. (70 acres). There are also more hiking trails on the land bordering ours that you may hike on.

About Julee Skarka

My husband Pete and I are orginally from Northern Illinois. We moved down to Kentucky in 2001, and absolutely love it here. Pete had lived in Kentucky in the past when he attended MSU and fell in love at that time with the beautiful countryside. We currently have a small farm and raise chickens and have three pleasure horses for our personal use, plus Holstein calves.

Julee Skarka purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Julee Skarka chose Kentucky

We love horses and living in the country, and when we first set eyes on this piece of property, it was love at first sight! We really do feel like we have a small piece of heaven right here. The rolling hillsides, the deep woods, and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets just confirm the fact that we made the right choice by moving to Kentucky.

What makes this cottage unique

We are very near to the Daniel Boone National Forest which gives us great wooded views all around. There are numerous trails everywhere, great for both horseback riding and hiking, which we both love to participate in. We chose this property over all others because of it's beauty, tranquility, and seclusion.

We desire that you would feel 'at home' while you are here, and we are dedicated to give you the best service possible. It is our goal that every guest who visits comes away feeling refreshed and re-newed, and our hope is that you would desire to visit us again in the future.

Cozy, clean cabin in an amazing setting

  • 5 of 5

Our 4-night stay at the Bluegill Cabin was such a relaxing getaway for us. The cabin was easily accessible, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen was fully-stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals. The bathroom was roomy, spotless, and had plenty of towels for our stay. The window A/C unit was located away from the living area which did not allow efficient cooling of the bedroom, but we were never significantly uncomfortable. The most appealing feature of this cabin is its setting. We were surrounded by rolling hills, shade trees, and a picturesque spattering of outbuildings and blooming flowers all around the property. The covered back porch was set up for leisurely dining and for admiring the beautiful view of a fishing pond, hay barn, and horses grazing the pastureland. A charm of hummingbirds greeted us every time we settled in on the back porch. We spent our days riding the off-road trails at Wilcat Off-road Park that is located just a few miles away and it was such a treat to be able to return to the cabin each evening to enjoy the peaceful, serene, magnificent setting. My only two recommendations for guests is to bring insect repellent for chiggers you will likely get wandering the alluring property, and bring fishing poles to take advantage of the fishing pond. You won't regret a stay at this delightful cabin.

We booked 3 nights at the cottage for an ATV trip to Wildcat Offroad Park (never made it there due to the road conditions) and were thrilled with the option to bring our 2 small dogs with us. The cottage is so charming - nicely sized with several great features for a vacation rental. Really had nearly all the comforts of home. Unfortunately for us, there were a couple of issues we had not anticipated. First is the road to access the property. Once turning off the main road, the sign indicates that the rentals are 2 miles ahead. Those were the 2 longest miles of our lives - a one-lane road with no shoulder, no guard rails, a signficant dropoff on one side and a surprising amount of traffic. We encountered numerous large pickup trucks, a u-haul moving truck and even a coal hauling truck in just our 2 days there. Considering that we were towing a 14' trailer with 2 atvs, it was quite frigthening the way other drivers expected us to move off the road or else came flying down the road directly toward us! Once we made it to the cottage, the friendly owners can over to give us the keys and explain that the a/c had not yet been turned on. This leads to issue number 2 - it was 5 pm (the hottest part of the day), humid and 96 degrees, yet the windows were all open in the cottage. We immediately closed them and turned on the a/c unit and all ceiling fans. Unfotunately, the a/c consists of a window unit in the sitting nook right outside the bathroom. With the extreme heat during our stay, there was no way for the cool air to ever make it around the 3 corners to the living room in the front of the house. Thus, the temperature in the part of the house in which we spent all our time - the living room and bedroom side - never dropped below 78-80, even at night. For some people, I imagine this is not too hot, but for my wife and I, it was misery. Although we booked through Wednesday, we left Tuesday in order to get back home were we could be cool and comfortable. I would highly recommend adding a second a/c window unit in the front room of the house for better comfort in the hottest months. I would imagine in the cooler months, that we would really enjoy the stay other than the road. If you plan to spend most of your time at the cottage - bring in groceries and perpare meals there - it would be fantastic except in the heat of summer. But you do not want to venture away too many times as you never know what you will encounter on the way to or from town.

Owner's Response: We're sorry Anonymous was not satisfied with their vacation at the Cottage. We strive to make sure all our guests are 100% pleased with their visit. We greet every guest in person upon arrival, we ask each guest to please contact us if they have any issues with their accommodations. We live on the same property as the cottage, in addition we have livestock to tend which takes us near the cottage twice each day. Two times we saw Anonymous or his wife in the yard and said hello. Neither time were we told there were any issues. In addition our contact information is printed in a guest information binder inside the cottage. We have installed another air conditioner in Bluegill Cottage since anonymous' visit, so two air conditioners should now be sufficient to keep the cottage cool enough for all future guests. We believe that Anonymous was confused when he wrote about which road it was that they encountered a coal truck and other huge vehicles. It is not the road leading to our rentals after they saw our sign; (we have lived here over 15 years and have never seen a coal truck on the road he thinks he is talking about). He is thinking abut the main road you have to travel on for half a mile before you turn onto the secondary road leading to our place. For the record, the main road is more than wide enough all vehicles to pass each other in both directions. The secondary road leading to the cottage is narrow in some spots, but if a person takes their time, they will have no problem getting here.We have been in the rental business at this location for over 6 years and have never had a guest get in an accident, even those who were hauling ATV's on trailers, neither when they were on the way here or on their way out.

So very peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this comfortable cottage located on a working farm. Days were spent exploring the surrounding areas, but afternoons were reserved for the back porch enjoying the view of the pond, and the Troup of hummingbirds that feed constantly on the feeder placed, and kept full, on the porch. Fascinating! I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a very quiet get away.
