Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

A stay in our 1,200 sq. ft. guest cottage will help make any visit to Indianapolis one to remember. Located on a nine acre country estate just twenty minutes east of downtown Indianapolis, Buck Creek Cottage offers both business and vacation guests a great opportunity to experience the city and relax in the country.

Built in 1994, the cottage is just fifty feet from our private two acre stocked lake, so bring your fishing gear. As the photos illustrate , the cottage is fully furnished with the newest amenities. A central heating and air conditioning system insures that your stay will be comfortable winter or summer.

Over three acres of maintained grounds and gardens offers the perfect setting for a comfortable evening at home after visiting the sites and offerings of Indianapolis.

While most of Indianapolis' finest restaurants are located less than twenty minutes away, a fully equipped modern kitchen that includes a five burner gas range, double stainless steel sinks, ample counter and prep surfaces and full size dishwasher and refrigerator offers an easy alternative to eating out. An outdoor gas grill is provided in case your cooking preference is grilling.

If your interested in golf a dozen courses are within a twenty minute drive.

If shopping is your sport, Indianapolis' best shopping locations are all within a twenty-thirty minute drive. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and general sundries, as well as pizza and other fast food, are all less than five minutes away.

Wi-fi and cable service are included and a large HD flat screen offers the option to just stay home and take it easy if you're so inclined.

One bedroom is furnished with a king size bed while the other contains a pair of twin beds. The twin beds can also be configured as a king size bed if requested. A self-inflating queen size blowup and a roll away bed can be used to sleep up to seven adults. We also provide camp air mattresses for children and a Pack and Play, with mattress, for toddlers.

As photo #15 shows, the linear layout of the cottage's one bathroom permits simultaneous and comfortable usage of the walk-in shower and sink.

The entry area to the cottage contains a large dining area and breakfast counter and an open pass thru to the kitchen area for easy service. The living room is located just off the dining area and the combination offers the opportunity to entertain a small group of friends or family if desired.

While most of the lake's shoreline is maintained in its natural state, a cantilevered deck is located at the shoreline nearest the cottage for fishing, swimming or sunbathing. Chairs and lounges are also provided to ensure your time outdoors at Buck Creek Cottage is as comfortable and enjoyable as your time indoors.

A large fire pit located near the cantilevered deck is provided for those evenings under the stars. Firewood is provided for a couple of fires.

Please note that the pictures include photos of the estate's main residence to show the grounds and gardens as well and permit easier identification of our property, as the cottage sits fifty yards behind the main house and a hundred yards from Buck Creek Road. The cottage address is 384 Buck Creek Rd., Indianapolis, IN, 46229. Just plug Buck Creek Cottage into Google maps and it will bring you to the driveway of the main house.

We look forward to your visit.

About Lawrence & Margo Strodtman / Owner

This property has been an ongoing project since we bought it in 1983. Over the years we have added the guest cottage, the two acre stocked lake, and a substantial addition to the main residence. These additions were intended to help induce our children, once adults, to visit often. They visit when they can, but the closest one lives over five hours away, so frequent visits are not practical. So here we sit with a huge main house, a lovely guest cottage and wonderful grounds, lake and gardens and not nearly enough visitors enjoying them.

The income from the rentals will help maintain the estate and the interaction with our renters, if so desired, will help maintain our sanity.

I've lived in Indianapolis all my life and my wife has lived in the area since she started teaching in 1976. We love the area and we think we can help make your visit, whether business or pleasure, a more enjoyable one.

Lawrence & Margo Strodtman / Owner purchased this cottage in 1983

Why Lawrence & Margo Strodtman / Owner chose Indiana

Our property is located near Cumberland, Indiana, apparently the first stage coach stop east of Indianapolis on what became the Cumberland Road. Originally part of a forty-five acre farm owned by one of Cumberland's first merchants, in the late twenties the property was divided into five parcels. When we bought the property in the early eighties we thought it would be a nice place to live. With all the improvements we have made over the years, we now think it's also a great place to visit. Apparently our nieces and nephews agree, as they nicknamed the property 'Larryland'. And while, like our children, they are now adults, they still look forward to visiting 'Larryland' during both summer and winter holidays.

What makes this cottage unique

As the pictures illustrate, we maintain our residence on the grounds where Buck Creek Cottage is located. While we won't necessarily be around all the time we will be available when you first check in, assuming you have been able to give us a reasonable arrival time window. We will certainly find time early in your stay to answer any questions you may have about Indianapolis' shopping, attractions and restaurants.

Fantastic. Everything you could want in a rental property and more.

  • 5 of 5

This property was even better than it sounded when we choose it from a list of many. Clean, quiet, yet five minutes for anything you could want or need. The owner was attentive without being intrusive. The property was immaculate and the fishing superb. We will be back.

Indianapolis guest house

  • 5 of 5

I have been using VRBO for more than 3 years, mostly for business trips, typically accompanied by one or two others in our company. There were 2 of us, this time, staying for 5 nights. This incredible guest house was, by far, the finest experience yet. The owner's home is close by (approximately 150 yards away), however the guest house and vegetation is situated on the property so as to provide the utmost privacy and seclusion. The property is expansive with a huge amount of space between this house and other homes in the neighborhood. The inside is very clean and well designed, with a galley kitchen, open thru a bar top to an adjacent dining area. The living room is extremely comfortable with a large screen tv, expansive territorial view and insanely comfortable furniture. The 2 bedrooms are large with big, updated closets and king sized beds. The mattresses feel fairly new, considering the firmness. No squeaks. The one bathroom is large and the shower enclosure is perfect. Everything in this guest house was well thought out, from the moment you drive up into the 3 car parking space and private walkway, to the organization of the cabinets and floor plan, to the specific location and position of the house. The drive to the convention center each day was only about 30 minutes, with a few slowdowns near the city. Other than the total and complete privacy and ultra quiet setting, the private pond in the back yard was my favorite feature. When you are on, or near the water's edge or pier you are in a place that feels like you are miles from civilization. There are a couple of flat bottom row boats and a canoe for anyone feeling the urge to cruise the pond. It is actually quite incredible to experience how cleverly the pond, trees and structures were originally laid out on this amazing property. There is a horse corral close by on the north side of the guest house (approximately 200 yards away), with 2 friendly horses that didn't have a problem sauntering over for a few gentle pats on the neck. Anyone traveling to Indianapolis on business or pleasure would be missing out if they don't give this place a try. I will need to give this place 6 stars because the owners thought of everything. Thanks for the super stay Lawrence and Margo. BTW...those cookies were awesomely delicious.

A fantastic retreat from busy adventures in Indianapolis

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here while attending GENCON in Indianapolis. The was a great break from everything we were doing all day, to come here to a quiet retreat and recoup. Cool with plenty of shade we were very comfortable here. What was especially nice was that we could get to the Indianapolis convention center in just under 20 mins, but if we didn't want to get on the freeways we could turn onto the main street near by and drive about 30 min straight into downtown Indianapolis. Because of our busy schedules we did not make use of the various amenities offered here, the pond is nice and there is plenty of space for family outdoor games.

TLDR; Great, quiet, cool place to stay. Located in a great spot.

Loved it, will try to rent again if we make it out to GENCON again.

The property met all our expectations and beyond. Clean and quiet cottage by the lake ...

  • 5 of 5

Larry and Margo were awesome hosts. Their cottage is picturesque and serene. Perfect for a quiet getaway yet close enough to the city if you have to venture in. With a family of six it was an ideal place for rest and relaxation. When our kids made some noise ... we felt we did not disrupt the neighborhood.

Serene Oasis in the middle of the City

  • 5 of 5

We visited friends in Indianapolis and wanted our own place to escape to at the end of the day. This sweet cottage was a peaceful oasis and had every amenity you might want and then some. Plus, it was close to the city, so driving was a piece of cake. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and very well stocked, even with things you'd never think to bring - like mosquito spray! Larry and Margo were wonderful hosts, made themselves available, but did not intrude on our time. Margo even brought us over cookies! The pond was great for our kayak and the property was a secluded spot for relaxing, especially in the evenings. Can't say enough about this rental - we will definitely stay here again next time we're in Indy, and I highly recommend it. You get way more for your money than you would if you stayed at a hotel. Thank you, Larry & Margo!
