A stay in our 1,200 sq. ft. guest cottage will help make any visit to Indianapolis one to remember. Located on a nine acre country estate just twenty minutes east of downtown Indianapolis, we believe Buck Creek Cottage offers both business and vacation guests a great opportunity to experience the city and relax in the country.
Built in 1994, the cottage is just fifty feet from our private two acre stocked lake, so bring your fishing gear. As the photos illustrate, the cottage is fully furnished with the newest amenities. A central heating and air conditioning system insures that your stay will be comfortable winter or summer.
Over three acres of maintained grounds and gardens offers the perfect setting for a comfortable evening at home after visiting the sites and offerings of Indianapolis.
While most of Indianapolis' finest restaurants are located less than twenty minutes away, a fully equipped modern kitchen that includes a five burner gas range, double stainless steel sinks, ample counter and prep surfaces and full size dishwasher and refrigerator offers an easy alternative to eating out. An outdoor gas grill is provided in case your cooking preference is grilling.
If your interested in golf a dozen courses are within a twenty minute drive.
If shopping is your sport, Indianapolis' best shopping locations are all within a twenty-thirty minute drive. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and general sundries, as well as pizza and other fast food, are all less than five minutes away.
Wi-fi and cable service are included and a large HD flat screen offers the option to just stay home and take it easy if you're so inclined.
One bedroom is furnished with a king size bed while the other contains a pair of twin beds. The twin beds can also be configured as a king size bed if requested. A self-inflating queen size blowup and a roll away bed can be used to sleep up to seven adults. We also provide camp air mattresses for children and a Pack and Play, with mattress, for toddlers.
As photo #15 shows, the linear layout of the cottage's one bathroom permits simultaneous and comfortable usage of the walk-in shower and sink.
The entry area to the cottage contains a large dining area and breakfast counter and an open pass thru to the kitchen area for easy service. The living room is located just off the dining area and the combination offers the opportunity to entertain a small group of friends or family if desired.
While most of the lake's shoreline is maintained in its natural state, a cantilevered deck is located at the shoreline nearest the cottage for fishing, swimming or sunbathing. Chairs and lounges are also provided to ensure your time outdoors at Buck Creek Cottage is as comfortable and enjoyable as your time indoors.
A large fire pit located near the cantilevered deck is provided for those evenings under the stars. Firewood is provided for a couple of fires.
Please note that the pictures include photos of the estate's main residence to show the grounds and gardens as well and permit easier identification of our property, as the cottage sits fifty yards behind the main house and a hundred yards from Buck Creek Road. The cottage address is 384 Buck Creek Rd., Indianapolis, IN, 46229. Just plug Buck Creek Cottage into Google maps and it will bring you to the driveway of the main house.
We look forward to your visit.
This property has been an ongoing project since we bought it in 1983. Over the years we have added the guest cottage, the two acre stocked lake, and a substantial addition to the main residence. These additions were intended to help induce our children, once adults, to visit often. They visit when they can, but the closest one lives over five hours away, so frequent visits are not practical. So here we sit with a huge main house, a lovely guest cottage and wonderful grounds, lake and gardens and not nearly enough visitors enjoying them.
The income from the rentals will help maintain the estate and the interaction with our renters, if so desired, will help maintain our sanity.
I've lived in Indianapolis all my life and my wife has lived in the area since she started teaching in 1976. We love the area and we think we can help make your visit, whether business or pleasure, a more enjoyable one.
Lawrence & Margo Strodtman / Owner purchased this cottage in 1983
Our property is located near Cumberland, Indiana, apparently the first stage coach stop east of Indianapolis on what became the Cumberland Road. Originally part of a forty-five acre farm owned by one of Cumberland's first merchants, in the late twenties the property was divided into five parcels. When we bought the property in the early eighties we thought it would be a nice place to live. With all the improvements we have made over the years, we now think it's also a great place to visit. Apparently our nieces and nephews agree, as they nicknamed the property 'Larryland'. And while, like our children, they are now adults, they still look forward to visiting 'Larryland' during both summer and winter holidays.
As the pictures illustrate, we maintain our residence on the grounds where Buck Creek Cottage is located. While we won't necessarily be around all the time we will be available when you first check in, assuming you have been able to give us a reasonable arrival time window. We will certainly find time early in your stay to answer any questions you may have about Indianapolis' shopping, attractions and restaurants.
What a great experience! This was our first time using VRBO and we couldn't have been any happier. The guest house was perfect for our family of four with plenty of room to have guests come over. It was very clean and well taken care of. Everything we needed was right there on hand. My kids loved being able to run around outside on the huge grassy property. They loved canoeing on the pond and having a bonfire at night. The owners were extremely kind and accommodating. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town!
We looked for a place to stay over Thanksgiving weekend. Our son lives south of Broad Ripple; a 27 min drive.
The cottage and Lawrence and Margo were wonderful. The cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious to meet our needs. Four adults stayed the four nights we were in town and we also served dinner for four additional adults with plenty of room. The grounds are great allowing us to roam. Downtown Indy is an easy drive, 25 minutes, from the cottage. We will definitely consider staying again. Thank you Lawrence and Margo.
Ditto on what all the other reviews before have said. From the well kept property to immaculately clean house to extra friendly owners, this rental needs to be highly considered if you are in the Indianapolis area or want a nice weekend away. The cookies were delicious! Thanks to Larry for accommodating our need for a short weekend getaway with family.
The property is beautiful. Large trees, lots of autumn flowers and comfortable seating with a firepit on the shoreline. Very private, neighboring homes are a good distance away. The house is very pretty, well furnished and stocked. The owners were welcoming but non-intrusive. They stopped by to say hello and I knew they were available anytime if I needed them but I enjoyed the quiet privacy I was looking for for my weekend stay. I had plans to visit Indianapolis but once I settled into the house I did not want to leave. Enjoyed coffee and a puzzle every morning on the shore and back out in the evening for the sunsets. The bed and bedding were so comfortable and I had comfortable seating and a large screen TV to watch the World Series on. I was even able to prepare some meals. I travel on business most of the year and my respite in Buck Creek Cottage was idyllic. I will definitely stay there in the future.
The cottage was the perfect place for a family get together. The cottage was really nice and had everything we needed and more. The pond was really pretty. The yard was big and the kids loved the space to run around and we even got a game of kickball in. The kids also had fun making a fort out in the yard and the owners even brought over a sheet for them to use. Margo and Larry were great hosts and even brought over fresh baked cookies. The location was perfect because it had the feel of being out in the country but you were close to a park and not too far from many activities including the Zoo.
We had a great time at this property. Nothing but positive things to say. Our whole family enjoyed staying at "the cottage" and we continue to talk about our desire to go back. Enjoyed the pond, the fishing, the fire pit, the comfy beds, the tremendous hospitality and more.
I am not a review writing type but this place was nice. I highly recommend it and I hope we get a chance to go back.
Buck Creek Cottage is located on Indianapolis's far east side. Google maps will bring you to our driveway and you'll see the main house as shown in the photos. Buck Creek Cottage sits fifty yards behind the main house right next to our lake.
